Click to report rating    5/17/17   5     5     5     4   Great veterinary clinic with great staff! I have had both my cats vaccinated, spayed & neutered there. They are now treating my male cat for crystals. I could not be happier with their service I would highly recommend this place to any cat owner. RID: 63663
Click to report rating    9/30/14   5     5     5     3   I took my cats here for several years and always felt very confident about the quality of care provided. Dr. Hughes, who is the vet I usually saw, was gentle and attentive when handling my cats and thorough in her assessments. She always took the time to explain her thinking behind any tests or treatments she was recommending, to make my options clear, and to follow up with me to see how my cat was doing. She was also very patient and compassionate with me when the time came to put my cat down and I had an emotional breakdown in the clinic. The only rating I didn't give top marks for was "monetary value." I'm not sure what other vets would have charged for the same types of visits and procedures. But even if this clinic charges above-average fees, I would consider it worth it for the consistent quality of care provided. RID: 53816
6/20/14   5     5     5     5   My cat was sick for a year before she died and we only had to bring her to the vet twice. My cat was by no means friendly with strangers and even though she hissed and growled at the vets they weren't scared and seemed very confident when treating her. From March 2014 to when she died June 2014 the vet called every other week to check in and see how she was. When my cat took a sudden turn for the worse her usual vet was not there to euthanize her but another was. She was extremely professional and remained supportive while I was in absolute tears. My cat passed quickly and painlessly. A couple days later I received a phone call from my cats usual vet and she said she was just informed of her death and offered her condolences which was extremely sweet. She listened to me and reassured me that we made the decision at the right time and that we were very brave. This talk helped me immensely and I am extremely grateful to all the staff for making this hard time a little easier. RID: 52191
Click to report rating    5/29/13   5     5     5     5   It was my first time having my two new cats vaccinated, and I was incredibly impressed with the merivale cat hospital. The minute I walked through the door two vet assistants rushed over to say hi to Bagheera and Hadley. They were fast and efficient with the paperwork, and the vet (dr. boeckh) was amazing with them. He took extra time just to play with them and give them treats, and explained products that they could benefit from without pushing them on me. The building itself is clean and professional, without the intimidating clinic feel of most vets. The price was reasonable and I would recommend them to anyone with cats. RID: 42797
Click to report rating    2/20/13   5     5     5     4   I was happy to discover this vet. It's great not having all the barking dogs scaring my cat at the vet's office anymore. The staff is also very friendly and caring. They sure know cats! What I noticed the most while my cat was being examined is that they are very gentle. Instead of 'dragging' my cat out of her cage, they actually took the cage apart to get her out gently. I appreciated that! Although my cat's illness has been difficult to diagnose, I am happy that they are treating her symptomatically as well so that she feels better! Even though the office was busy, Dr. Hughes took the time to sit with me and discuss the treatment plan at length and answer any questions I had. I also saw Dr. Thom and she was great as well. Click to report rating    1/10/13   5     5     4     5   We brought our two month only feral rescue kitten into the clinic for the first time in November 2006 and were introduced to Dr. Hughes. Since then, Dr. Hughes has given our dear, sweet, little Mary the highest level of care and attention anyone could ever ask for. The waiting times can get a little long sometimes but we completely understand how this can happen. The vets take extra care with every single patient they see. They never rush anyone out the door. For this reason, waiting a little longer doesn't bother us a bit. Mary gets a little impatient but she always gets a treat when she's finished seeing the vet so I think she too is O.K. with the waiting...:-) We have recommmended this clinic to others and will continue to do so. Click to report rating    6/23/10   4     4     3     2   New to the Ottawa area, we had our first visit to this vet as my wife liked the idea of a "cat's only" clinic. The staff was fairly good, friendly, and knowledgeable and we certainly didn't feel rushed. My one complaint is that it did seem awfully pricey. We had two cats at the same time. Each cat's annual wellness check cost ~$100. Also, they only give annual dose rabies shots which they explain as being related to a lower risk of complications but I believe is heavily influenced by the increased cash flow it provides. The vet asked us to bring in a fecal sample to check for parasites which I had never heard of before. Little did we know that this cost an extra ~$33. Also, the vet suggested giving the cats an anti-worm pill without any symptoms, history, or cause in my mind (which cost an additional $10). Overall, the service was good but the clinic seemed very profit-oriented and I doubt we will be going back next year. RID: 18515
