Click to report rating    6/18/12   5     5     4     4   Dr. Rainbow and staff have taken care of 3 of my pets and have always done an excellent job. As far as cost goes, they are specialists and it costs more than your regular vet. This should not be a surprise. Dr. Rainbow recently worked my cat in during an emergency and was very good with him (as he is not a nice cat at the vet.) Dr. Rainbow does talk fast but it is just his personality. I feel very fortunate to have a veterinary opthomology clinic in San Antonio and will continue taking my pets to him whenever specialty eye care is needed. RID: 35043
3/8/12   1     3     1     1   My dog was originally scheduled for cataract surgery in Round Rock, but the vet who was supposed to perform it had to go on early maternity leave. I was left with no options but to see Dr. Rainbow. I had driven all the way from Austin to SA, but the consultation lasted only a few minutes. He talked way too fast for any normal person to understand, and didn't have any patience when I had questions. He just wanted rush the consultation, book the surgery, and get my money. The manner in which he rushed the whole consultation, makes you wonder if he even exercises any care and diligence during surgery. I was never told how much the surgery was going to cost, just that I had to sign some document stating that I expect to pay a min. amount after surgery. When it came time to pay, I was shocked to see how overpriced they were. I demanded to know why. Frustrated, I just wanted to get my dog out. The staff would not let me see the invoice until after I paid. RID: 32724
Click to report rating    3/2/12   5     5     4     2   Over 3 yrs ago, I had a routine procedure on my pet with poor results. The Vet Ophthalmologist said "If I didn't like the outcome, he would redo the procedure and have to recharge me another $1200". I later found here are many vets in San Antonio who are capable of performing the procedure with excellent results at a lower rate. RID: 32617
Click to report rating    3/19/11   3     3     1     1   Dr Rainbow doesnt even try to mask that it is all about the money for him. He schedules way too many patients and races from room to room barely spending any time with anyone. He talks too fast for you to understand but makes sure the details about payment and him getting his money are crystal clear. I have heard him yell at his techs and staff and use profanity. Unprofessional and money hungry. See Dr Greller instead. Much nicer and explains everything. You get the sense he really cares. RID: 23681
Click to report rating    3/13/11   5     4     4     3   $160 for the first visit plus meds & testing costs. Dr R spends little to no time explaining things. He just wants your deposit then on to the next potential fee. Dr Geller is much better - explains things and spends time with us. I won't see Dr Rainbow again. Too busy worrying about $$ and not enough concern about the pets. RID: 23520
Click to report rating    7/20/10   4     5     5     1   $160 for an office visit. Total for less than 10 minutes of the vet's time? $435. OUCH! On top of that, his bedside manor was similar to that of Dr. Romano (from E.R.). He knows his stuff, and wants you to be sure you know that. Oh, and follow up visits, not included - they are an additional fee. Since they don't tell you all this upfront (they give you the bad news on the way out the door), you should be advised. RID: 18870
