Click to report rating    12/22/14   1     1     1     1   Took our 10 year old husky in when she tore the ligament in her knee. The vet barely looked at it and said to just keep her quiet for two weeks and come back for a recheck. Did some of my own research and took her somewhere else, where proper diagnosis was made and she received the surgery she needed. "Keeping her quiet" would have done absolutely nothing and prolonged her pain and discomfort and made surgery much more difficult with less chance of recovery. Called to cancel the recheck appointment and was told "oh that's good you went somewhere else, we didn't think we could help you anyway." What???? Why wasn't I told that initially rather than string me along for weeks, keeping my dog in pain? You could not pay me to go back here. They don't know what they're doing and they don't care at all about the animals. RID: 55129
Click to report rating    3/26/14   4     4     4     1   I lost a chihuahua puppy (runt of litter) because the dr. Johnson did not know what was wrong with her besides low body temp and lethargic. I was told to bottle feed formula and keep her near a warming pad as well he gave her a shot. Turns out I found out well over a yr later while researching something else that it was Hypoglycemia ..something common in small breed dogs and her short life could have been spared with proper treatment. I had to watch her seizure and eventually die because of misdiagnosis :( or lack of. Rip peanut RID: 50703
Click to report rating    1/10/14   1     4     3     1   Dr David Millar was a true people and animal vet, the new doc is rude, arrogant and very impatient, does not care about the animals or people and when dr Trevor Johnson took over, prices skyrocketed, sorry Trevor u got along way to go before, u even come close to filling dr Millar shoes RID: 49170

4/14/13   5     5     5     5   I have been taking my puppy to this clinic since she was a puppy. She always gets a cheerful welcome and a treat and the very best of care. The staff is friendly and very helpful, the vets are kind and efficient. I would recommend this clinic to anyone looking for an excellent facility. RID: 41758
1/26/13   4     4     3     5   My small dog was a patient of Dr.Millar originally with nothing but good experiences including teeth cleaning under anesthetic. In 2011 she had surgery by the new vet and has not done well since. She was cold and clammy when returned to me. Since then her throat has caused her trouble and now one year later seems blocked by something. Her eyes water, swallowing has become hard and she has pain. She doesn't even want to drink water because it hurts her. The new vet said she may have been allergic to the anesthetic and wasn't too concerned. I'm seeing a Wpg.vet and getting a second opinion. She is very tiny. I have been told that the surgical breathing tube may have been too large and damaged her trachia. Also the hair loss following surgery could mean damage to thyroid gland as well. I hope x-rays and ultrasound will provide the answers.I want to believe the best of Dr J.at Old Country vet but I'm very afraid for my pet right now. I will post the results when I know them. Click to report rating    7/18/12   5     5     5     5   I acquired a dog off Kijiji in Winnipeg. After picking up the 1 year old golden retriever, I took him to Old Country Vet for a check up. It turns out that even though the previous owners were from Wpg, they had used Old Country Vet. The vet and staff recognized him right away and gave me his full history. They are very compassionate and treat each pet as an important member of your family. My pets don't mind going there and my dog actually wags his tail when we step inside. I highly recommend this facility to all pet owners. It helps too that the rates are really decent. RID: 35713
Click to report rating    6/20/12   5     5     5     4   Took the trip to Steinbach today to check out this vet clinic. I have been looking for more personal care for my 3 dogs than I have been recieving from my city vet. I was not looking to take up alot of their time.I felt unrushed, asked my questions and got my answers. I was made to feel that my dogs are lovely and special which is very important to me.The 2 assistants and vet Dr.Tara M were really quite wonderful,in knowledge, kindness and personal care. I had a bit of trouble finding the place. The price was a bit less for the visit, but it was the care that will be making this my new vet clinic and the place I will refer my friends to. RID: 35099
Click to report rating    4/23/12   5     4     4     5   We found out about this place after our dog needed surgery. A friend told us that it was a lot cheaper here then anywhere else. He sure was right! After our experience we only go here from now on, even if it's just for regular vaccinations. Much cheaper even with the drive out from Winnipeg. RID: 33704
Click to report rating    11/7/11   2     3     4     3   Got a new dog and she had colostrum as well as a larger stomach. We wanted to know if in fact she was pregnant. We saw the younger vet at Old Country. He couldn't tell if she was pregnant (which is fine) but he suggested we spay her, the puppies would die thus avoiding overpopulation. Not a fan of this vet at all and will stick with a Winnipeg vet and pay the extra $20. RID: 28913
Click to report rating    3/28/11   4     3     3     4   Based out of a trailer, but the staff is very good and its a very good price. Dated 3/28/11 RID: 23898
Click to report rating    2/21/11   2     3     3     3   Used to be the best. The new vet is arrogant, rude, doesn't hear what you have to say about your animal's problem, not someone I would trust with my beloved animals. I'm afraid he'll wear his shoes out before he fills Dr. Millar's shoes. RID: 23034
Click to report rating    11/24/10   5     4     5     5   I took my 4-year-old boxer for allergy testing at The Old Country Vet's after a friend and three strangers at a local dog park all recommended the place. I was pleased with the test, both in terms of information and low cost; however, I was even more satisfied with a consult regarding my dog's knee. My dog was showing signs of a knee injury, and fairly costly appointments with my regular vet resulted in the recommendation the knee be scoped with surgery possibly to follow. The scope was going to cost a few hundred dollars, and I was told to expect surgery to cost at least $3000. I consulted with Dr. Miller at The Old Country Vet, and he provided very clear information regarding knee injuries and what to expect with surgery, while also suggesting she likely did not need surgery. He recommended I give her Glucosamine to support the knee, and within 3 days of starting the supplement my dog was no longer limping and her mobility was back to 100%. Still no problems in the last 5 months. RID: 21035
Click to report rating    9/3/10   5     5     5     5   very friendly, clean, observant, listened to what you had to say,and was thorough.Prices are the best i've ever been charged.1/2 to a 1/4 of what other vets charge for meds and exams. RID: 19561
Click to report rating    7/29/10   2     3     3     3   I got a pug puppy that was examined by this vet in June of 2010 and given a clean bill of health. When we brought him home he appeared quite sick and our own vet determined (on day 2 of being in our care) that our puppy had campylobacter (bacteria), coccidia (parasite) and round worm - all missed in the "vet check" by Dr. Millar. When I called to inform them of this, the lady who answered the phone was not at all interested. I was disappointed in her lack of concern for this matter. RID: 18984
