Click to report rating    7/22/22   2     1     2     1   Horrific experience with this person. I can't even bring myself to call her a doctor, there is no way a vet whom takes an oath and adheres to it, would do what she did. My dog is forever disabled, in pain and truly not living a great life because of this person. She allowed my dog to be tended to by an inexperienced person, which resulted in him losing the use of his back legs. He was there for a routine, after care, shot, and left without the use if his back legs. I heard it all happen through the door. We have more than enough proof and now cases and files are opened. Specialists, surgeons and other vets have all agreed that my dog incurred a serious lumbar injury. Her own staff members and even the vet admitted to the trauma. Staff have begged her to pay for the severe injury and ongoing care he needs but she just thinks this will go away. It won't. I won't go away. When a trusted "doctor" severely hurts your family member, you don't stop until you receive justice. RID: 70390
Click to report rating    1/28/19   1     3     3     1   It's been two years since I had to put my beloved pet down and I just can't get past how Dr. Brown handled this very difficult day. She was not empathic, instead after charging me literally hundreds of dollars in procedures after procedures to finally decide there was nothing they could do. When I took her in to be put down in the morning, she sent me away and told me to come back at 4:00 pm. You have no idea how difficult that day was for me. When I returned, I provided her the money for the procedure. She then said, "If you intend to stay you owe another $75.00". Seriously, you are going to charge me to stay with my dog, to comfort her? That is the most greedy act I have ever experienced. How low can one get to charge a grieving person, in fact, maybe Dr. Brown should update her schooling as it is recommended for you to stay with your pet when they pass away. She is obviously in the wrong profession. She also lectured us as if we were children. People should be treated with respect a RID: 67288
Click to report rating    12/19/17   1     2     1     1   I felt like all my animals were good for was profit immediately at this vet. The vet gave my kitten and cat vaccinations but did not do any sort of exam on my new kitten and suggested I buy their cat food. When I didn't they gave me a handful of brochures on their cat food to buy, told me all the reasons pet store food is inadequate and proceeded to call me 3 times in one week to check 'if I had decided on which cat food I would buy'. By the third phone call, the fact that they kept pestering me on what I would buy instead of asking how my kitten did with the vaccinations it was 100% clear to me that this vet was a profit based business tat preyed on the weakness of humans loving their pets. I don't usually write bad reviews, I tend to stick to the good ones, but I would say steer clear of here if you want your pets taken care of like you would take care of them. RID: 65225
Click to report rating    7/26/17   5     5     5     5   Dr. Brown is very direct and informative. She also listen to what you say. RID: 64275
Click to report rating    5/15/17   3     5     4     2   Staff was not super friendly almost felt like I was wasting their time. Dr Brown was very informative but it almost felt like a lecture. I was a little confused about food in suppose to feed my animals. Since I feed a half half of wet and dry and was told not to feed my dog wet food as they don't need allot of meat and that corn is good for them and iams was the best to feed them. In everything I've ever read or studied in including animal nutrition. All this dry food isn't the best for dogs and meat is their main source of nutrition. I've moved allot and have owned many animals and fostered many been to lots of vets and never been made to feel I was feeding them wrong or repeatedly told to feed them iams. Over all it was ok just different RID: 63640
Click to report rating    1/21/17   1     1     2     1   awful experience, after a huge cost there was no resolution and no diagnosis for our pet. RID: 62424
Click to report rating    9/20/16   5     5     5     5   I have brought my dogs to Departure Bay Veterinary Hospital for over 15 years. In the past almost 3 years I have had 2 huge emergencies that they have dealt with immediately, and 1 chronically sick dog that they were excellent with. I have also had dentals done on my dogs and their quotes were lower than what I saw on a local pet list as being average. THANK YOU FOR CARING Dr Brown. RID: 61640
Click to report rating    9/7/16   2     2     1     1   Recently took my dog to Departure Bay Vet to have a checkup and spay. She's going on 3 years old and recently came out of heat. During her checkup there was no talk of waiting to spay, she booked me for the next available day. Then when i came for pick up they tell me how I should have taken the doctors word of waiting due to a chance of false pregnancy. There was no talk of this OR I WOULD HAVE WAITED! Now 7 days later she is lethargic dehydrated amd still swollen. Will not leave her bed with her teddies or she cries. And her tattoo is a infected mess! And the bigger lady at the front desk was very contradicting and rude when we came in to have it looked at even stating 'you must baby her alot cause she acts like a baby...' im far from happy, and They are far from professional. Avoid if possible. September 2016 RID: 61522
Click to report rating    8/25/16   1     3     3     3   We have been going to Dep bay vet for a couple of years. We recently purchased oral flea meds for our dog. When 2 weeks went by and he still had fleas, we checked the prescription. It expired 1 year ago!! We went into the vet to let them know and they simply said, "oh, sorry.". No refund, no exchange, etc. We are flabbergasted. They also told us we should've been giving it to him every 48hrs although the written instructions they gave us said once a week. They then said it was a new staff member who messed that up. We later phoned to say we are not satisfied and they still refused to reimburse us. Amazing that this clinic will take a bad review and loose a client over $50. We will never return. August 2016. RID: 61421
Click to report rating    4/14/16   4     4     4     4   I have been very happy with Dr. Brown's care of my cat. She has been taking care of her for 16 years now and the only time I was unhappy was because of a misunderstanding on my part. RID: 60302
Click to report rating    3/11/16   5     5     5     5   I have been very pleased with the high quality of care my dogs have received at Departure Bay Veterinary Hospital. Dr Brown explains your pets condition, and all options for treatment, not trying to railroad you into expensive unnecessary treatments or tests, if it wouldn't make a difference to how a pet is treated. I recently had to put one of my dogs to sleep and the staff and Dr Brown were very supportive and kind. RID: 60006
Click to report rating    11/27/14   3     5     5     5   I find the staff Courteous, compassionate, and knowledgeable. The fees are reasonable and I have no hesitation in recommending Dr. Brown and her staff. RID: 54791
Click to report rating    11/8/14   1     3     1     1   Dr. Brown is the worse person I have ever met. She does not care about anything but money.they neutered my cat on Tuesday and he has been sick since he got fixed. He has tried to eat but everything comes back up. It is ripping me apart. I took the cat in sat morning and was told it would cost several hundred dollars for the exam and X-rays plus anything else it needed. I always was under the impression that a person that is a professional would at least look at the cat but she wouldn't give it the time of day. She called the police on me. I am a retired person and I do not have surplus money. It took ne a week to get the money to have it neutered.it is heartbreaking for me. I truly hate this person treating animals and adults like garbage. My name is les Joey leger and I live here in nanaimo. RID: 54520
Click to report rating    2/14/13   5     5     5     5   I've been a customer for almost 6 years now, and I've always had great service and the best advice. I've never had to pay for anything that my pet didn't need, and have never had a "surprise". RID: 40417
Click to report rating    8/6/12   2     4     2     1   I used to go to this place lots with my cats years ago but now what a rip off. 900 bucks to examine both cats because of an issue but diagnose was iffy and problem was not solved. I also had to be the one to call back for lab results. Extra fees on top of extra costs and surprise charges. I saw Dr. Carol. Never again. RID: 36305
Click to report rating    6/13/12   1     4     2     1   I will never go back to this clinc, they wanted to charge me an extra $100 on the top of the $70 exam fee, just to see my dog without having a prior appointment. It wasn't an emergency and I called within business hours! They try to take advantage of the customers. I took my dog to another clinc in the same day that didn't charge me the $100 "emergency fee". I hate dealing with exploitative businesses. RID: 34950
Click to report rating    4/30/12   5     5     5     5   All the staff were knowledgeable, friendly and helpful.Dr.Brown explained everything and took her time with Abbey's exam. I was nervous due to Abbey(Maltese/Shitzu)having a previous reaction to a vaccine....but I was reassured and we felt well cared for.I would highly recommend this Vet clinic. RID: 33896
Click to report rating    11/8/11   3     3     3     3   I also appreciated the weight scale and the receptionist friendliness. However, as we entered the exam room the vet (dr.Carol) did not introduce herself or ask my name. Instead, we proceded straight away with the exam and she seemed in a rush. Although she seemed to be listening I expected more from the exam. ie: a more thorough exam and to be honest....not to charge a first time customer 16 dollars to clip my pups nails. Plus, I would have appreciated an invitation to call if I had any questions. I will not be going back. Nice lady but not for us. RID: 28950
Click to report rating    2/22/11   5     5     5     5   Dr. Brown has great compassion for the animals in her care and costs are reasonable. She works with the owners to provide excellent all around care for your pet and provides options leading to results. She commented on observations on our first visit & examination with this pet that I had noticed and wondered about. I would highly recommend this clinic. RID: 23075
Click to report rating    1/10/11   5     5     5     5   excellent service and care for my puppy. she had an infection, and after treatment cleared right up. RID: 21933
Click to report rating    1/9/11   1     2     3     1   Although it has been several years since we used this veterinary clinic, we would never return there after they misdiagnosed and nearly killed our dog. By the time we received a correct diagnosis from another vet, it was too late to save her. RID: 21914
Click to report rating    12/21/10   1     1     1     1   RID: 21546
Click to report rating    8/6/10   5     5     5     5   The staff really puts my pets at ease. Love the scale in the floor much easier to weigh my dogs. Prices very reasonable... cheaper than a lot of vets in Nanaimo. Quality veterinary care. Dr Brown is an excellent vet. RID: 19105
