Click to report rating    10/26/17   1     1     1     1   All over bad. I've known people who will not go to this clinic again. Misdiagnosis, and over charging, rude staff. Doing work that was not required, and this was confirmed by other vets. Ordering medications that the client never agreed to. RID: 64931

7/23/16   5     5     5     5   In a word, Exceptional! I've been to a quite a few Vet Clinics and I can say that this one is by far the best! To start off, the clinic is kept so clean and in pristine condition. The staff are friendly, well trained, and very helpful. The vet takes his time, examining each of his patients thoroughly, and talks to you as he checks your pet, making sure you are as informed as you can be. Prices are similar to other clinics, but service and care are well above average! He is kind, patient, understanding and goes above and beyond for each of his patients to make sure they are getting the ultimate care. I recommend this clinic to all! RID: 61170

Click to report rating    7/9/16   5     5     5     5   Both the vet and clinic are exceptional! The facility is spotless and is equipped with all the necessary medical equipment and much more. When my dog was hit by a car I rushed here because I knew the vet would provide the best care for my dog. This clinic's team went well above my expectations and provided stellar care for my dog. The vet explained why he was doing what he was doing and provided us with many tips on how to maximize our dog's health. He checked everything to ensure there was nothing he missed and I felt reassured knowing my dog would be fine. When I first brought my dog to receive his vaccinations the vet took time to answer all of my questions and was very knowledgeable. The prices are comparable to other clinics despite a much better quality of care. I will only be taking my dog here from now on! RID: 61063
Click to report rating    8/19/15   2     3     3     4   The vet is always wanting money -does not explain procedures -takes advantage of peoples attachment to our pets-this vet has dollar signs in his eyes$$ would not recommend RID: 58101
Click to report rating    3/5/15   2     4     4     2   Their facilities are nice but if you are on a budget this is not the place to go. There was also an instance the time we had to have a cat put down. We wanted to be there for the procedure to make her feel better about it. Was not expecting to be holding her down as she struggled while being lethally injected. Just insensitive! RID: 56157
Click to report rating    8/22/14   5     4     3     4   I've been going to this veterinary clinic with Dr Makowal as my cats' main vet for about 3yrs. The staff are excellent! They all care about animals and do whatever they can to accomodate both pets and owners. Dr Makowal has also been amazing (as well as Dr Bastian). They truly care about animals. I rescue stray cats that are injured and sick. I also had 6 older cats that passed away from different medical issues at ages 16-19yrs from kidney failure, heart problems, lung problems and a bleeding condition. With every one of my boys and girls Dr Makowal was extremely caring. I held each of my little ones at the end as he gave them an injection to put them to sleep. He's always tried to help me with cost so I could give all my guys the best care possible. Dr Makowal has also helped me with cost when I've rescued strays. He one of the strays I had rescued early one morning when his face swelled up like a balloon. He gave my little guy meds that immediately took the swelling down. RID: 53217
Click to report rating    8/10/14   5     5     5     5   My dog Jax has been going to this vet since I first got him as a puppy, 3 and a half years ago. Jax has been a handful and has had a lot of issues.. He fell off my balcony, got into the garbage and a cupboard while I was at work and ate a bunch of toxic things, and most recently, has had a freak accident at the cottage where a larvae infested his nose and has created massive problems with his liver and other vital organs. During these times, Dr Makowal and the entire staff at Simcoe St have been so supportive, understanding, thorough and caring. The staff truly care about animals and their owners and do everything they can to ensure your pet is happy and healthy. During this terrible ordeal with my Morkie Jax, I truly felt like he was getting the best possible care by a vet who is compassionate and knowledgable. I would highly recommend his office to any pet owner looking for a vet who cares about your pet and not just the money you can spend on it. A fantastic vet and fantastic staff RID: 52998
Click to report rating    7/3/14   5     5     5     5   Dr Makowal and his staff have looked after my dog for over six years. From the moment we adopted her until her death last week. We have always received kind and courteous attention. Dr Makowal is everything that I'd expect from a vet. After a knee operation a few years ago, my dog had a problem a few days later. Dr Makowal was on vacation when the staff had contacted him, he returned from vacation and saw her the next day to perform the needed repair. My dog later developed cancer and Dr Makowal was just as caring and attentive right to the end. They are a five star clinic in my estimation. Thanks. RID: 52391
Click to report rating    1/30/14   5     5     5     5   I had to take my cat in today as she was not eating/drinking for a couple of days. We noticed that she couldn't drink and looked in her mouth. There was a big mass under her tongue. I took her to the clinic without an appointment and the front desk staff and vet were fantastic. We received bad news and there were no options for treatment - we had to lay her to rest and again, these people were just great. They waited for my daughter to arrive as we wanted to stay with our cat for the procedure - the compassion shown by all of the staff was nothing short of wonderful. As upsetting as the experience was, these people deserve kudos for their kindness and support. RID: 49569
Click to report rating    10/13/13   4     4     4     4   I have taken my two dogs to this clinic for the past 5 years. I have no problem with the staff or Dr. Makowal. Veterinary treatment costs money and testing is usually the only way to find out what is wrong with an ailing pet so if you only visit when your pet is ill, what do you expect? RID: 47596
Click to report rating    8/12/13   5     5     5     5   I have always had wonderful experiences at this clinic and Dr Makowal is an amazing Vet RID: 46250
4/26/13   1     2     2     3   This was the cheapest vet clinic at the time and I was on a budget so when I bought my first puppy I started out at this vet. I never liked the staff, they always seemed stuck up, especially the front desk. They may be cheaper but they only seem to care about the money, not the animal. My dog got her first bladder infection and I was scared and once Again, on a budget. I called to make an appointment and inquire about the price. No matter what for, they always wanted to charge me like 40$ or so for a poop sample. EVERY VISIT! I needed to go get her urine checked, or for an ear infection, and it was required apparently to do a poop sample. And they make you feel stupid or inadequate if you're not rich. Like you're shoved to the side. Didn't like this vet at all. Very impersonal and not thorough, always left feeling confused. RID: 42096
Click to report rating    12/21/12   1     4     2     2   I brought my senior dog (13) to Simcoe Street North the second week of November for a check up. The reception staff was rude. They ignored me when I arrived and it took them almost 5 minutes to even acknowledge me. While I was waiting one of the receptionists bent over and her thong and but was exposed - HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL! The Dr. was 20 minutes late for the appointment. He insisted my dog have dental work done... despite the high risk of anesthesia... I declined as I do not believe my dog has much longer. Upon leaving again the reception staff was just unpleasant and unprofessinal. 1 week after our appoinment I got a call to 'schedule dental work'! The SAME denatl work I already declined. I will never return. I would recommend that the support staff receive more training and wear clothing that fits. RID: 39195
Click to report rating    10/16/12   2     4     5     2   I have 2 dogs. They are 12 and 14. No immediate health concerns.Moved to Ajax and started with the Makoowal Animal hospital in Ajax.First visit was ok, but it seemed that they were trying to push medication for a routine checkup. This year I split the visits for shots in half (Jul and then Sept).Visit in July they got blood tests (recommend for older dogs to test kidney etc) and were examined (heartworm). The doctor checked thoroughly for fleas and ticks and commented that he was impressed there was no sign of them.I stated they have never been diagnosed with fleas ever. After my visit I noticed the dogs scratching more.On followup visit they were riddled with fleas and ticks.I saw myself. We were given a large amount of various meds, without discussing other options.Im concerned that they may have been contracted there as they are not in contact with other dogs and have never been kenneled, and now, their follow up phone call is to sched dental surgery for the 12 yr old. CONCERNED! RID: 37847
Click to report rating    6/17/12   4     5     5     5   Dr. Makowal has been fantastic with my pets, specifically my one dog. He has always worked with me to stay within my budget and never pushed for testing I couldn't afford. My dog doesn't like people and Dr. Makowal has always been very respectful of her boundaries and has been very gentle with her, she will now let him examine her and usually doesn't let people touch her at all. Most recently we came to him for a check up and I had concerns about one of my dogs. I was pretty sure I already knew the diagnosis and told Dr. Makowal what I thought it was. I expected a little bit of "I am the vet" attitude, but I got none of that. He was understanding, compassionate and listended to me and my concerns. RID: 35021
Click to report rating    6/4/12   1     3     3     1   I would NOT recommend this Vet. He was unapproachable and did not ask very many questions at all about our dog-just wanted to TELL us what he was going to do and was not open to our comments at all. Quite a bad experience and had no respect in any way of our opinion considering that we know our own dog better than anyone. There are many, many excellent Vets to choose from in the Oshawa area---stay clear of this one! RID: 34721
Click to report rating    2/14/12   2     2     3     2   I had been taking both my dogs here for over a year. I'm not impressed with this clinic at all. they seem to be more concerned with making money rather than the health of your pet. I had to take one of my dogs to Dr. Makowal several times for the same issue that he mis-diagnosed and each time charged me for a full visit and various medications each time. Also they don't call you back with test results, even though they say they will call as soon as they know anything. Apparently a concerned pet owner waiting to hear back about their sick pets health doesn't matter much. I had to call them twice to ask about results that I had paid for. Would not recommend this place to anyone. RID: 32205
Click to report rating    12/21/11   5     5     5     4   I have been with this vet clinic before Dr. Makowal took over. He is a very kind and caring vet. I did have issues after my cat was diagnosed with diabetes like trips to emergency from insulin overdose, high price of "prescription" food, different diagnosis from his other vets, and whatnot. But, due to my own research, and conultations with Dr. Makowal only, my cat is now insulin free with a proper regimented diet that I feel is right for her and that tests have confirmed. No matter what, our pets are individuals like us and they all don't respond to the same treatment(s). We know our pets better than our vets do so it's a combination of consultation and communication that offers the best for our furry friends. I definitely recommend Dr. Makawol as he truly is a very caring vet. RID: 29993
Click to report rating    4/12/11   4     3     2     1   SEEMS MORE INTERESTED IN MONEY THAN WELL BEING OF PET. COMPLETELY DISINTERESTED ONCE HE REALIZED WE WEREN'T INTERESTED IN SURGERY FOR A TORN ACL IN A SENIOR DOG. WHEN WE ASKED FOR A REFERENCE FOR A PET PROSTHETIST HE NEVER CALLED BACK. RID: 24323
Click to report rating    8/17/10   3     4     2     3   This vet clinic was recommended by a friend to us. We were told the vet was fantastic and that vaccinations/surgeries were reasonable. The vet that we originally had was very expensive, so we decided to switch to this clinic. The main vet Dr. Makowal has always been good, and obviously really cares for animals. However, during our last visit, we found out there are now 2 other vets that would be helping out. We unfortunately had an appointment with one of the new vets. He was not thorough, and didn't offer much advice when I showed concerns about my cat's weight. He only suggested I buy the $70 bags of vet food they sell, and then didn't off any other advice on a diet plan for my cat. He didn't answer any questions well, or show much interest in his job. A week after the last appt, my cat started limping,so my husband took him to get checked out. They didn't even look at his leg, and just told my husband he had an "infection" and ulcers in his mouth. Not thorough and didn't care at all. RID: 19258
