We cannot rate Upper Canada Animal Hospital high enough. If there was a 6 out of 5 option - we would have picked it! Excellent care and loving dedication from start to finish. We can feel it on the phone every single time we call in and during appointments and follow-ups. We see Dr. Erin Kanerva -she is absolutely tremendous. We can say without reservation, that this clinic would move mountains for our poodles. Highly recommend.

Upper Canada ranks 10/10 in their care of our beloved Havanese dog, where he is treated like each staff person’s own pet. Everyone there is so caring and dedicated, and their services are at the highest professional level. His veterinarian is Dr. Erin Kanerva, and she is wonderful in every way. Not only is she focused on his health, but she ensures that every clinic visit is a happy experience for him. If he has had a health problem, she explores all treatment options, and we ask her what she would do if he were her own dog. We always get a follow up phone call from Dr. Erin the day after any procedure, or if he has been unwell, to check up on him. Our family is encouraged to phone with questions or seek advice at any time. We feel that Upper Canada’s, and Dr. Erin’s, team approach ensures the best veterinary care for our dog, and this gives us total peace of mind in terms of his health.

Excellent service and care for our dog. Felt confident in their ability to diagnose and treat my dog. They always call to follow up after a visit. Would recommend clinic to anyone. They have treated my dog 2 times (recently and 5 years ago) and very happy with care both times.

Good: reception staff are uniformly excellent Poor: high turnover in DVM's (3 in 2 years) resulting in inconsistent treatment for our pet's long-term illness. Also, during those 2 years, Dr. Turpal never acknowledged, nor introduced himself during multiple repeat visits, although we were being told that he was involved in the "team"diagnosing our pet's condition. In the end, 18 months later, we were referred to a specialist, who quickly diagnosed the issue. No one at UCAH, ever commented or apologized for their inability to diagnose what is a rare, but not unusual condition, which is familiar to all DVM's. Disappointing overall and a very costly experience.

The doctors and the entire staff of Upper Canada Animal Hospital are absolutely amazing! I brought my cat there for a surgical procedure (perineal urethrostomy) and they acted so quickly to get it performed. They were very diligent in his care and were wonderful at keeping me informed with plenty of updates and checking in with me once I had my boy back at home. Although the surgery was very successful, my cat did have several complications and required that a second surgery be performed. The clinic was once again incredible at accommodating and ensuring that the surgery took place right away and with just as much care as the first procedure. Additionally, the clinic was especially helpful in being mindful of finances. I am so pleased to report that my kitty is well on the road to recovery at this point, all in thanks to the efforts and love of the staff at this hospital. I would refer anyone in Niagara to this hospital and am so grateful to all of the staff members. Thank you!

What an amazing hospital. We were told on a Friday by our vet that Contessa, our four year old Rottweiller had blown out her knee. Over the weekend we thought about our options. I checked out Upper Canada Animal Hospital's website and was totally impressed by Dr Jim Turpel so decided on surgery. We told our vet on Monday and had an appointment the next morning for a consultation and surgery by noon. Everyone there is friendly and caring. They all took their time with explanations and put us as well as Contessa at ease. I was blown away that Dr. Turpel called himself to let us know how surgery went and told us to call at any time if we had questions or concerns. This feeling that we had done the right thing occurred right through Contessa's rehabilitation. We are so grateful for all the staff and Doctors who helped put Contessa back in better health

Our mastiff Stella just had her second TTA surgery with Dr. Turpel. First one was a success and I don't doubt the second one will go the same. My partner and I are so impressed with the service we have received. The people working here truly love their jobs and have treated Stella like their own. They have put us at ease through each step and we couldn't be more confident when Stella is in their care.

Thanks to Dr. Jim Turpel and his team at the Upper Canada Animal Hospital we have our beloved Koda for hopefully many more years. In mid-August of this year he required 2 TTA surgeries on his back knees within 5 days of each other. Dr. Turpel's response was amazing and scheduled the surgery for the very next morning. These surgeries were successful and as Dr. Turpel predicted, we have our old Koda back. Thank you Dr. Turpel for your caring response and you and your teams obvious love for animals.
With love, Koda and his grateful owners and family.

I can't thank Dr. Turple & his staff enough for the care & treatment of my 7 year old Cocker Spaniel, Baylee. In late September, I took my dog to the vets b/c she began to limp on her right side. After X-rays, I received the news that Baylee has a Cranial Cruciate Ligament (CCL) rupture in her right knee.
That same day, Dr. Turple was consulting on another pet at my veterinary clinic, when he spared time to look at Baylee’s x-rays & exam her. He explained that Baylee has suffered a CCL rupture and a Tibial Tuberosity Advancement (TTA) Cruciate Repair s/b performed on her & she would be back to new within 12 wks.
Two days later, Baylee’s was in surgery. The day after, Baylee was walking on her right leg. I followed her rehabilitation closely, & the leg has healed & the incision is gone.
The care, attention & compassion, Dr. Turple showed during Baylee’s consultation, surgery & follow up visits was amazing.
The TTA Cruciate Repair gave me dog another “leash” on life.

There are no words that can express how fantastic Dr. Turpel and his team are. As a pet owner of 3 dogs, the day came where I was faced with fix my poor dogs knees, has he had bilateral ligament damage or put him down. After going to the emerg clinic, then my vets....within 15 minutes I had an appointment with Dr. Turpel...scared and fearful, Dr. Turpel and his staff not only cared for my spaniel but helped me. Within 30 minutes, my Copper was in surgery as I was not prepared to put him down.....2 surgeries later.....amazing care, follow up and emotional support....I am proud to say, Copper is doing amazing and better than ever. I can't thank nor speak enough about Dr. Turpel and his staff.....Best experience I have had at the worst time as a dog owner.....will and do refer everyone to them!!!!

Our dog had a torn cruciate ligament, with no weight bearing on that leg. The staff was very caring, and encouraged phoning in with any questions. We only had to wait a very few days to be worked into the surgery schedule, from the time of his referral. The vet also gave us his cell number after the surgery (for a TTA) in case of emergency...luckily we didn't have to use it. They are very thorough with information regarding your pet's problem (they encouraged us to go to Youtube and view their videos) and with follow-up. Dr. Turpel is a very knowledgeable and skilled vet that is able to explain in layman's terms everything about the ailment and treatment. It is now 8 weeks post surgery and our cattle dog is fully weight bearing on the afflicted leg and doing his normal activities without any visible discomfort or inhibition. Would definitely recommend UCAH to anyone who had to have this type of surgery.

I have been in the dog fancy for decades and I have NEVER experienced such professional, personable & knowledgeable people - that includes ALL .... from the phone contact, reception, veterinarian consult, post-surgery contact & concern and the continued involvement! This is a very caring team! I was, and am still, in awe of their honest care and commitment. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Dr. Granacki treated my cat in such a tender loving manner. He has a bit of "attitude", and is in early stages of kidney disease. Her patience with him, and myself are commendable. She has outlined a plan for him that will keep my boy with me a long time. Thank you Dr. Granacki, I truly appreciate your care.

A heartfelt thank you and deep appreciation to the Upper Canada Hospital, particularly Dr. Angela Granacki and Dr. Lauren Collins for the exceptional care for our beloved dog, Charlie, who recently faced a rare, serious illness. Your love of and commitment to the care of animals shines through in all that you do (and not always during regular office hours!). Thank you also to the wonderful team who work behind the scenes including Meaghan, Krystin and Anne Marie. We are lucky to have you in the Niagara region to care for our pets. Myra and Ray

I am new to the area and was looking for a good vet. Numerous people I talked to recommended Upper Canada Animal Hospital and I see why. Their website was impressive, but as soon as I met the vets and staff, I knew I had found the right place for my dog Beau. He has allergies which are under control now and they were extremely knowledgeable and lovable to my little buddy. I DEFINTELY would recommend them!!!

Our three month old puppy had knee surgery first thing this morning and I was so pleased with how everything was handled. I felt very comfortable leaving her there for the unexpected surgery and was quite impressed with the staff and the facility. I loved receiving a call from Dr Turpel immediately following the surgery to get the update. Now I'm just looking forward to bringing my puppy back home.

Our vet referred us to Dr. Turpel, who is recognized as one of the best surgeons in the Region. Dr Turpel surgically removed invasive tumours on my dog's front leg .... the only other option was amputation since the tumours were rupturing. Dr. Turpel explained options fully and advised us that the tumours would return but our dog has had another year or more of good living as a result of Dr. Turpel's expertise.
