The results were spectacular , with return to full health in a few weeks. During the recovery period the support provided was excellent and delivered with a maximum of convenience, courtesy and friendliness, we strongly recommend the Upper Canada Animal Hospital to everyone needing vetrinary services. RID: 71098
Click to report rating    7/23/24   5     5     5     5   Dr Jim Turpel did Teddy’s surgery and we couldn’t ask for a better doctor looking after our little guy. The staff is wonderful and very caring. Dr Turpel calls after your pet has been discharged to make sure everything is going smoothly and the staff keeps in touch and are very quick in responding to any questions or concerns we have. Great doctor and staff RID: 71094

Click to report rating    2/18/21   5     5     5     5   We cannot rate Upper Canada Animal Hospital high enough. If there was a 6 out of 5 option - we would have picked it! Excellent care and loving dedication from start to finish. We can feel it on the phone every single time we call in and during appointments and follow-ups. We see Dr. Erin Kanerva -she is absolutely tremendous. We can say without reservation, that this clinic would move mountains for our poodles. Highly recommend. RID: 69814
Click to report rating    10/22/20   5     5     5     5   Upper Canada ranks 10/10 in their care of our beloved Havanese dog, where he is treated like each staff person’s own pet. Everyone there is so caring and dedicated, and their services are at the highest professional level. His veterinarian is Dr. Erin Kanerva, and she is wonderful in every way. Not only is she focused on his health, but she ensures that every clinic visit is a happy experience for him. If he has had a health problem, she explores all treatment options, and we ask her what she would do if he were her own dog. We always get a follow up phone call from Dr. Erin the day after any procedure, or if he has been unwell, to check up on him. Our family is encouraged to phone with questions or seek advice at any time. We feel that Upper Canada’s, and Dr. Erin’s, team approach ensures the best veterinary care for our dog, and this gives us total peace of mind in terms of his health. RID: 69608
Click to report rating    11/11/19   5     5     5     5   Our dog was treated so well by Dr. Turpel and every member of his staff that she was excited to go back for checkups and had no fear. From consultation to discharge summary to canine rehabilitation schedule and explanation - everything was written down in clear language that I could understand and instructions that I could follow with no fear of messing things up. They always repeated that if we had any concerns we could call them at any time (and I did). I would not hesitate to recommend UCAH staff and surgeon to anyone. An exceptional team of caring professionals leading to exceptional results. They did not go over the amount in the quote they gave us in written form....and THAT was also very much appreciated. Mocha say mmmrrrffarfarf - which means WE LOVE YOU GUYS and GALS! Thank you SO much. Lorraine, Denise and Mocha RID: 68722
Click to report rating    2/22/19   5     5     5     5   My dog tore her CCL and required surgery. Our vet clinic (which is 5 mins from our house) was able to perform it but I did extensive research on the best surgeons. I found Dr Jim Turpel (2.5 hours away from me) and heard amazing things about him. From the moment we met him I knew he cared about his patients and that we had made the right choice. He answered each and every question we had and did not rush us whatsoever and was happy to explain how every detail of the surgery and his experience. Once the surgery was completed the office contacted me right away to keep me updated. Dr.Turpel even called and texted me from his own phone and told me that I could always contact him directly if I had any issues. I'm extremely satisfied with the outcome. I wish they were closer to me because I would love to have them as my regular veterinarians. Very knowledgeable doctors and amazing staff. I would definitely recommend this clinic. RID: 67389
Click to report rating    1/9/18   5     5     5     4   Excellent service and care for our dog. Felt confident in their ability to diagnose and treat my dog. They always call to follow up after a visit. Would recommend clinic to anyone. They have treated my dog 2 times (recently and 5 years ago) and very happy with care both times. RID: 65347
Click to report rating    4/4/17   3     4     3     1   Good: reception staff are uniformly excellent Poor: high turnover in DVM's (3 in 2 years) resulting in inconsistent treatment for our pet's long-term illness. Also, during those 2 years, Dr. Turpal never acknowledged, nor introduced himself during multiple repeat visits, although we were being told that he was involved in the "team"diagnosing our pet's condition. In the end, 18 months later, we were referred to a specialist, who quickly diagnosed the issue. No one at UCAH, ever commented or apologized for their inability to diagnose what is a rare, but not unusual condition, which is familiar to all DVM's. Disappointing overall and a very costly experience. RID: 63237
Click to report rating    8/31/16   5     5     5     5   I would highly recommend Dr.Turpel and the entire staff at Upper Canada Animal Hospital. They are qualified, knowledgable, friendly and their customer service and treatment of your pet is second to none. We live in the US and took a chance on going to Canada after reading reviews and doing lengthy research for our 5yr old Siberian husky who tore her CCL. We couldn't be more pleased with our care. The TTA sugery (which most vets here suggested would not work for an 80lb dog) was a huge success. We feel fortunate to have found Dr. Turpel and his staff. The 50 min drive across the border was not a problem at all. It is quite remarkable how well we were received, how quickly we were able to be scheduled for a consult and surgery and the sincere care they took of our sweet girl Willow. She is 6 weeks post op and doing fantastic. If you are looking for a top notch surgeon for your pet who is kind, loving and personable, full of knowledge and confident, you have just found the beast one!!! RID: 61475

6/6/15   5     5     5     5   The doctors and the entire staff of Upper Canada Animal Hospital are absolutely amazing! I brought my cat there for a surgical procedure (perineal urethrostomy) and they acted so quickly to get it performed. They were very diligent in his care and were wonderful at keeping me informed with plenty of updates and checking in with me once I had my boy back at home. Although the surgery was very successful, my cat did have several complications and required that a second surgery be performed. The clinic was once again incredible at accommodating and ensuring that the surgery took place right away and with just as much care as the first procedure. Additionally, the clinic was especially helpful in being mindful of finances. I am so pleased to report that my kitty is well on the road to recovery at this point, all in thanks to the efforts and love of the staff at this hospital. I would refer anyone in Niagara to this hospital and am so grateful to all of the staff members. Thank you! RID: 57300

6/3/15   5     5     5     5   We were referred to this hospital by our Vet. From the first phone call I was comfortable and impressed with all the employees. After two leg surgeries with three weeks in between my dog Purdy is well on the road to recovery, but he hates the cone on his head. I would highly recommend this hospital as they are so caring, even to get personnal phone calls from Dr Jim Turpel, regarding the progress of Purdy. Keep up the good work.  4/20/15   5     5     5     5   What an amazing hospital. We were told on a Friday by our vet that Contessa, our four year old Rottweiller had blown out her knee. Over the weekend we thought about our options. I checked out Upper Canada Animal Hospital's website and was totally impressed by Dr Jim Turpel so decided on surgery. We told our vet on Monday and had an appointment the next morning for a consultation and surgery by noon. Everyone there is friendly and caring. They all took their time with explanations and put us as well as Contessa at ease. I was blown away that Dr. Turpel called himself to let us know how surgery went and told us to call at any time if we had questions or concerns. This feeling that we had done the right thing occurred right through Contessa's rehabilitation. We are so grateful for all the staff and Doctors who helped put Contessa back in better health RID: 56708

1/25/15   5     5     5     5   Our mastiff Stella just had her second TTA surgery with Dr. Turpel. First one was a success and I don't doubt the second one will go the same. My partner and I are so impressed with the service we have received. The people working here truly love their jobs and have treated Stella like their own. They have put us at ease through each step and we couldn't be more confident when Stella is in their care. RID: 55613

12/3/14   5     5     5     5   Thanks to Dr. Jim Turpel and his team at the Upper Canada Animal Hospital we have our beloved Koda for hopefully many more years. In mid-August of this year he required 2 TTA surgeries on his back knees within 5 days of each other. Dr. Turpel's response was amazing and scheduled the surgery for the very next morning. These surgeries were successful and as Dr. Turpel predicted, we have our old Koda back. Thank you Dr. Turpel for your caring response and you and your teams obvious love for animals. With love, Koda and his grateful owners and family. RID: 54863

11/24/14   5     5     5     5   I can't thank Dr. Turple & his staff enough for the care & treatment of my 7 year old Cocker Spaniel, Baylee. In late September, I took my dog to the vets b/c she began to limp on her right side. After X-rays, I received the news that Baylee has a Cranial Cruciate Ligament (CCL) rupture in her right knee. That same day, Dr. Turple was consulting on another pet at my veterinary clinic, when he spared time to look at Baylee’s x-rays & exam her. He explained that Baylee has suffered a CCL rupture and a Tibial Tuberosity Advancement (TTA) Cruciate Repair s/b performed on her & she would be back to new within 12 wks. Two days later, Baylee’s was in surgery. The day after, Baylee was walking on her right leg. I followed her rehabilitation closely, & the leg has healed & the incision is gone. The care, attention & compassion, Dr. Turple showed during Baylee’s consultation, surgery & follow up visits was amazing. The TTA Cruciate Repair gave me dog another “leash” on life. RID: 54752

9/2/14   5     5     5     5   There are no words that can express how fantastic Dr. Turpel and his team are. As a pet owner of 3 dogs, the day came where I was faced with fix my poor dogs knees, has he had bilateral ligament damage or put him down. After going to the emerg clinic, then my vets....within 15 minutes I had an appointment with Dr. Turpel...scared and fearful, Dr. Turpel and his staff not only cared for my spaniel but helped me. Within 30 minutes, my Copper was in surgery as I was not prepared to put him down.....2 surgeries later.....amazing care, follow up and emotional support....I am proud to say, Copper is doing amazing and better than ever. I can't thank nor speak enough about Dr. Turpel and his staff.....Best experience I have had at the worst time as a dog owner.....will and do refer everyone to them!!!! RID: 53362

12/7/13   5     5     5     5   Our dog had a torn cruciate ligament, with no weight bearing on that leg. The staff was very caring, and encouraged phoning in with any questions. We only had to wait a very few days to be worked into the surgery schedule, from the time of his referral. The vet also gave us his cell number after the surgery (for a TTA) in case of emergency...luckily we didn't have to use it. They are very thorough with information regarding your pet's problem (they encouraged us to go to Youtube and view their videos) and with follow-up. Dr. Turpel is a very knowledgeable and skilled vet that is able to explain in layman's terms everything about the ailment and treatment. It is now 8 weeks post surgery and our cattle dog is fully weight bearing on the afflicted leg and doing his normal activities without any visible discomfort or inhibition. Would definitely recommend UCAH to anyone who had to have this type of surgery. RID: 48652

10/29/13   5     5     5     5   Dr. Turpel, is a super Dr. anyone that has met him can clearly see that he has a passion for helping animals as well as their owners under the most trying of circumstances. Gizzy my Newfoundlander kept Dr. Jim and his staff on their toes, as the normal protocols were not suitable for Gizzy, Dr. Jim had to come up with a whole new plan for the goofy Newf. Gizzy is doing great with his fixed knees, he’s playing and acting like a goofy newfy that I never saw in him before, at times he’s hard to keep up with, but we love it. If ever we require a surgeon again, Dr. Jim is on speed dial. Thanks from all of us Marisa, Gizzy, Max and Mia RID: 47959

Click to report rating    10/26/13   5     5     5     5   The best care one could ever ask for. Staff, facility, knowledge.... They've got it all. You're not just a number here. Yes it's a little further to travel for some but if you want the proper care for your dog you won't hesitate to travel to Niagara on the lake. The veterinarians at upper Canada animal hospital are by the best. It's a shame human physicians haven't figured this out RID: 47893
Click to report rating    9/17/13   5     5     5     5   I have been in the dog fancy for decades and I have NEVER experienced such professional, personable & knowledgeable people - that includes ALL .... from the phone contact, reception, veterinarian consult, post-surgery contact & concern and the continued involvement! Click to report rating    9/10/13   5     5     5     5   Dr. Granacki treated my cat in such a tender loving manner. He has a bit of "attitude", and is in early stages of kidney disease.  3/2/13   5     5     5     5   A heartfelt thank you and deep appreciation to the Upper Canada Hospital, particularly Dr. Angela Granacki and Dr. Lauren Collins for the exceptional care for our beloved dog, Charlie, who recently faced a rare, serious illness. Your love of and commitment to the care of animals shines through in all that you do (and not always during regular office hours!). Thank you also to the wonderful team who work behind the scenes including Meaghan, Krystin and Anne Marie. We are lucky to have you in the Niagara region to care for our pets. Myra and Ray RID: 40810

2/28/13   5     5     5     5   I am new to the area and was looking for a good vet. Numerous people I talked to recommended Upper Canada Animal Hospital and I see why. Their website was impressive, but as soon as I met the vets and staff, I knew I had found the right place for my dog Beau. He has allergies which are under control now and they were extremely knowledgeable and lovable to my little buddy. I DEFINTELY would recommend them!!! RID: 40776

Click to report rating    9/19/12   5     5     5     5   On a recent trip to the Niagara area our retriever Clara was hit by a cyclist and sustained several cuts and what we thought may have been a broken leg. We rushed her to Upper Canada Canada where she was immediately given top priority. Fortunately there where no broken bones. After being stitched up and with her tail wagging again we drove back to Toronto. We were so impressed with the people and level of care at Upper Canada that we have decided, despite the 1 1/2 hour drive we will use Upper Canada as our regular vet. Great excuse to visit wine country. RID: 37309

Click to report rating    2/27/12   5     5     5     5   I came to Upper Canada Animal Hospital due to an emergency while in Canada. I'm from the States and being in Canada dealing with a crisis really does a number on the emotions. The girls at the front desk where ready to help and even held the door open for me as they saw me running in the door. The doctor was great, I can't remember her name but I have never seen people work as fast as what the staff did at this clinic. I don't care what any one says... I'm not made of money, single income...but I was shocked at how reasonable their prices were... to be honest, I would have probably paid anything to make her better...but the thing is that the care that they not only gave her, but also the care they gave ME as the mother was INCREDIBLE. If I didn't live in the States, there would be no question in mind that this would be my choice of clinic for my animals...CANADIANS, YOU ARE SO LUCKY TO HAVE THEM IN YOUR OWN BACKYARD! RID: 32508
Click to report rating    1/13/12   5     5     5     4   I have had many animals and vets over the years, but none as good as Dr. Turpul and Dr. Granacki and the staff at Upper Canada. I have a cat who manages a life-threatening crisis about every 18 months and they have cared for him magnificently for 16 years (and still counting!). They are VERY good at what they do and are unfailing kind and compassionate. They are excellent communicators as well and great at explaining what is going on, what the options are and keeping anxious owners in the loop. The support staff is exceptionally nice (and efficient), and Courtney is an absolute wizard of a vet tech. I cannot say enough about how great this clinic is! My critters are family and I wouldn't take them anywhere else. To make it even better, they now make house calls! Wonderful vets, wonderful staff, wonderful clinic. RID: 30515
Click to report rating    1/10/12   5     5     5     5   Our vet referred us to Dr. Turpel, who is recognized as one of the best surgeons in the Region. Dr Turpel surgically removed invasive tumours on my dog's front leg .... the only other option was amputation since the tumours were rupturing. Dr. Turpel explained options fully and advised us that the tumours would return but our dog has had another year or more of good living as a result of Dr. Turpel's expertise. RID: 30413
