Horrible vet in every way- unprofessional, uncaring, misdiagnoses repeatedly. This vet should be investigated and stopped from practicing.

I'm a vet myself and thought I would be prepared when my cat's diagnostics were suggestive of cancer. Even though I had supported many clients going through the same thing, I was really distressed and emotional. Dr. Oberthaler was professional, responded to my questions completely, and was very gentle with my little hellion of a cat. I couldn't have asked for a better partner throughout the process. The bad news is, she's moving! Thankfully the other oncologists at Blue Pearl are also awesome. I wish my family could get this level of care from their mds. Thanks so much Dr. Oberthaler! Dr. Oberthaler is an exceptionally qualified and compassionate oncologist. She has provided our beloved Golden Retriever with the best care possible for lymphoma. She has always answered our questions to our complete satisfaction and has never failed to promptly return our phone calls. Also her staff is very professional, helpful and courteous.

My 15 year old German Shepherd died one year and ten days ago of hemangiosarcoma, an aggressive and alway fatal cancer. Looking back, I feel very fortunate that Dr. Oberthaler was her oncologist. I work with the best physicians and hospitals in NYC, and promise you that Dr. O ranks up there with them in terms of knowledge, skill and competency. What sets her apart, however, was how quickly she connects with her patients and their owners. She was able to answer painful questions concerning the mortality of my best friend and made me feel good about making the some of hardest decisions of my life. Watching a loved one die is miserable, but Dr. O made me feel that she was getting the best care, and I was making the best decisions. On a brighter note, she also skillfully saved the life of my other 15 year old German Shepherd, who had a cancerous tumor removed one year and nine days ago and is thriving.

Dr Oberthaler is an exceptionally skilled, informed, and caring staff specialist at NYC Veterinary Specialists. I first met Dr O came when my cat’s regular vet referred me to NYC VS for a 2nd opinion on my cat Schmoo’s cancer diagnosis. I was immediately impressed by the quality of the facility & staff but it was Dr Oberthaler’s expertise & compassion that made me choose to treat Schmoo @ NYC VS (instead of going back to my regular vet) when the diagnosis was confirmed. Each step of the way (Schmoo had check ups monthly) Dr O explained her findings & care options (& re-explained when I had questions). Through treatment, Schmoo, who had been death's door, got better & lived happily for 3 more years. Though Dr Oberthaler’s recommendations were based in impressive veterinary knowledge & experience, she never lost sight of the comfort & best interests of my little cat and she treated us BOTH with love & respect. I can’t thank Dr Oberthaler and her colleagues at NYC VS enough.

Failed to diagnose appropriately, told me my cat had >2 yrs to live when in truth she only had 2 months at most (this would have completely changed management), failed to visit or check in with her patient when it was dying in the ICU as a direct result of her actions, failed in every aspect to providing care, comfort and "do-no-harm" policy to a creature that has done nothing to deserve such a horrific ending to her life. I should know as I am an MD myself. During the 10 hours in the waiting room, not once did she introduce herself. Please read everything about the company she works for based out of Florida, a business only to make money, BluePearl. Tons of horrific stories, was investigated by FOX 5 News in 2008. I have to live with myself for my poor cats last hours while she continues to profit from such horrific practices.
