The vet was very nice, but they mixed up my cats and did surgery on the wrong one. Mistakes happen and I liked the vet so I went back. My elderly cat needed another dental surgery and was given a metacam (meloxicam) injection during the surgery and then I was given 5 syringes of oral metacam to take home for pain. Thankfully I only gave 1/2 of one of the oral doses at home. My cat stopped eating and got sick. Took him back and he was going into kidney failure. Had to take him home and give under the skin fluids. Did some reading on metacam and found that THERE IS AN FDA BLACK BOX WARNING ON THE DRUG WHICH WARNS TO NOT EVER GIVE REPEATED DOSES (IE intraop injection and then post op oral pain doses) because there is a very high risk of death from kidney failure in cats!! I realize pain control options for cats are limited, but there are other options. I didn't appreciate this vet taking such a gamble with my beloved pets life, and not warning me!!
