We'd just moved to LB when we took our cat here for the first time. She had been treated her whole life for the effects of FHV on her delicate eyes. The med that ALWAYS worked was the triple~antibiotic ophthalmic ointment called bacitracin~neomycin~polymixin. We were out of the ointment and thought this would be a good first test for a new vet. After providing her health history, we stated our goal of obtaining BNP for her eyes. We were immediately told "I never use that. We have other treatments that work better." Those other treatments, consisting of a variety or products, including calming herbs and other things pertinent to FHV in general but not really relevant to OUR cat's needs. I repeated that all we needed was the BNP which had always worked great, we were told NO as the vet INSISTED we try ALL of the other remedies, costing us almost $400 to walk out the door, instead of the $20 BNP. And NONE of their rave remedies did a thing to help. We got BNP for $20 at VCA~Rossmoor.

Our dog needed skin growths removed & biopsied. Dr. Perrault removed 3 (requiring stitches) & sent them for biopsy. $929. The dog was put on post-op pain meds by injection & follow-up pills that apparently made him ill. We weren't given fact sheets about the meds he was injected & sent home with, or the risks.I called the vets the next day to ask if he could be prescribed other meds, or taken off Rimadyl, as he had yellow diarrhea all over the back yard. Dr. Fox refused to change his meds or eliminate Rimadyl, a drug with bad press online for dogs with weak tummies like ours'. He told me I'd be cruel if I didn't keep him on both meds, Tramadol and Rimadyl, as prescribed. Our dog nearly died, requiring 3 days & nights in emergency care at other vets'. The additional care cost over $1,000.
I've heard his reaction to this combo was unusual, but I told the Cats and Dogs vet he wasn't a candidate for that drug therapy, and was simply browbeaten, resulting in agony and expense all around
