Took him there yesterday. We seen doctor Dennis Doyle he gave me some meds said he was fine. He eat a bone and they even told me that he will digest the bone with no problem. They never even told me what I should be looking out for if he needs urgent care and I woke up to check on him and he was dead.

I was referred here when my local vet couldn't come up with a diagnosis for my Siamese. I was told by Dr. Katie Walsh that my cat very likely had small cell lymphoma. I declined invasive surgery for confirmation, and opted to proceed with the recommended Chlorambucil/Prednisolone combination. We got an extra 16 months of amazing hikes, beach visits, car rides and hotel trips with our dear cat. The Canada West staff were amazing from the start of this journey until the end. Even on the final night, when I had to make the dreadful decision to euthanize my little girl, the purpose-designed room provided much comfort while my heart was breaking. No sterile stainless table exit at this place! Admittedly, I carried PetsPlusUs pet insurance, so I was one of the lucky ones pretty much unaffected by the charges. Between the insurance and this animal hospital, I couldn't have wished for better treatment for my cat.

Communication between staff was confusing and owners wishes were not followed. Method of billing was outrageous, I got the sense that the animals well being was second to the collection of the fees. If you bring critical care animals here, be assured the owner looses control of decision making and finances. The vet demanded that our pet be put down or the vet would file a report with spca. Pet was released, Pet survived, bank account didn't and trust for vets broken.

DO NOT COME HERE FOR AN EMERGENCY FOR YOUR PET Why can I walk into a HOSPITAL for an emergency but I can’t walk into an EMERGENCY VET HOSPITAL? It makes NO sense. This has been the most unprofessional and insensitive experience I have ever had.
I arrived at CanWest Hospital I had to call the reception in order to have someone come outside to grab my dog - I was on the hold for 3 minutes. *IN AN EMERGENCY YOU DO NOT HAVE THREE MINUTES!* We had a brief conversation over the phone and a lady comes to take my dog. I received a call back 40 minutes later from the vet to talk about options. She said this is an emergency surgery but he wouldn’t be able to have the surgery until Monday/Tuesday. They wanted to keep him here for 2-3 days then do the surgery.($8000)Talk about a money grab?!
I found another Vet Hospital that would let me GO INSIDE to do a consult/exam and would do emergency surgery immediately at the 1/4 of the cost. They sent me updates via text about him throughout the ni ght

I feel like they used my severely diabetic dog as an experiment. I would not be surprised to find out the Vet is doing research or writing a paper on diabetes and the various accompanying diseases that my dog ended up with. They stopped or cut back on medications that were working well. My dog was dead within two months!!! The staff is friendly, but I don’t think I’d trust them with another animal of mine. I’m VERY UPSET my dog died!

My dog was in the place for less than 24hrs... 5:30pm Dec. 29th to 12:40pm Dec. 30th.Over $3000.00 dollars and they didn't even wait for the blood tests from my own vet. Trevvor was very convincing and I felt I was pushed to put my dog down. They should be under review by a government agency! They would rather put your pet down get the money and then deal with the actual medical issues!!! I know they have helped many pets but look at the reviews there are lots of other pets and owners who feel the way I do. I stand ny my statements.

What a joke everyone here is. Spent $530 for them to determine that there is only a fever. My dog couldnt eat, sleep or get up. Brought to another vet the next day and solved the problem in 5 minutes. These guys are a joke and shouldn't be paid a cent for any medical advice relating to pets. STAY AWAY!!!

MY DOG DIED TWO DAYS AFTER SURGERY at this place. Go on google and look at the reviews of how this place runs! Very easy to take you money. Very quick to get my dog out of the hospital once they get it.

This is a good place to have serious surgery done. This is what they specialize in. We were fortunate to have Dr. Francis remove a malignant tumor from our dogs lung. The recovery went well, and the oncologist recommended no chemotherapy. Our dog developed a persistent cough, and repeated blood work and x rays found no evidence of any further cancer or other complications. We went through this for more than three months, with the vets finding nothing serious, and prescribing antibiotics. Eventually they found fluid in the the chest cavity, and tests indicated that cancer had likely spread. After repeated test, over a three month period, they found nothing. Our dog finally died last week. How could they miss the spreading cancer over a three month period. Well, the answer is that this place is like a walk in clinic. They have so many dogs going through this facility that they are unable to offer the same care that we might receive at our local veterinarian.

My experience 4 years ago at Canada West was so terrible that I felt it necessary to follow up. If one of our pets ever faces such a similar emergency situation, we will NEVER EVER set foot in Canada West. Our cat stayed there for 3 days and was not fed even though we phoned and phoned and lay in his own feces and urine which he was covered in. If you feel this is FIRST class SPECIALIZED service that you are willing to max out your credit card for, go for it!

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE! First of all, they are no better than other pet clinics, if not worse. They re friendly at the first and they take your dog to the back the minute you walk in, then they become the boss and keeps you waiting if you don't agree to pay their big bill. They suggest expensive tests even though my dog most likely doesnt need it just so they can make money. They will say they are not sure the problem because without the tests. I ended up paid $2000 for 24 hrs hospitalisation and useless tests. They have suggested another day at hospital for another $800-900. After i insisted to take my dog home because he is pretty much recovered, they didn't even bother to call me for the pending results of the tests. No real assistance or help discussing how to do home care except for one sheet about meds. Very unhappy with their service and lack of clarity in how they were going to charge. Extremely expensive and staff was rude when confronted with the issue.

Absolutely fantastic in every respect! Dr Manens and all the staff are incredibly knowledgeable and compassionate. The hospital runs like a well oiled machine. Our two cats received superb care, and I sleep well knowing that should my beautiful King Charles become ill, she will be in great hands. Canada West could serve as the model for healthcare in Canada. Top doctors, personalized service, timely reporting, fully equipped with all diagnostic tools, and the most compassionate care. My only regret is that as a member of the human race in this country, my family and I cannot access this same level of care, or anything close to it! Thank you to all the wonderful doctors and staff at Canada West.

I found the technical staff topnotch and very empathetic. I took my dog here for heart disease diagnosis and treatment. I was of the mistaken impression that their cardiologist was a surgeon so paid the extra for consultation with him after the diagnosis. The consultation was no better than reading a pamphlet. When I returned for follow up they did not permit me to skip the talk with doc so I was charged unnecessarily. They said I was welcome to contact them should problems arise. I was told to tell them if she got diarrhea. This sounded important. She got diarrhea, I told him. All I got was an email saying I don't know why your dog has diarrhea. Not, bring her in an we will check her. It was a sign of her heart failing. Less than a week later she died. She was my heart.

Arrived at Canada West just before midnight on Jan 2 /16. Our pit bull suffered a sudden spinal stroke over on the island. Throughout the 3 weeks we spent there, we received nothing but the BEST medical care in the wards/ICU, Neurology, Rehab and Physio, and reception. Dr. Higgins, the vet techs and assistants, and the rehab girls ALL treated our boy like he was their own dog. Their compassion and feeling for the animals is extended to the humans as well. Our boy is a very needy anxious dog, so for the good of his healing process, we were allowed to stay with him from 9am - 8pm everyday. This gave us the opportunity and privilege to see these people we trust with our dogs in action, with not just our dog, but many animals that were brought in over the 3 weeks. It is so obvious that not only is everyone that we dealt with the cream of the crop in their profession, but they actually love their jobs and it shows. Canada West is why we are home with our dog and on the road to recovery.

My best friend has spent $30,000 on her dog at this hospital in the past year. Her dog is now in there again and has paid another $10,000. They knocked $1,000 off the price as a donater gave $1,000 per family to help sick dogs. This doesn't even cover the costs for 1 day. I can't believe they are charging $1500 per day!!! I see my friend in tears daily as this dog is her son to her. I always thought vets wanted to help animals and always respected them, I guess they just want to help their wallets. It's unfortunate, they could help so much more, especially after paying this astronomical fee. Now up over $40,000!!! My faith is completely lost in this practice. MONEY GRAB!!!!

This place is an amazing specialty hospital! Dr. Kuzma is an amazing orthopedic specialist and a very kind hearted vet! My cat Texas has been there a few times for his twisted hind legs and he actually likes going there! The girls are so good with him and I know he is in good hands! Dr Kuzma always calls to update me and let me know what he's thinking next. THANK YOU CANADA WEST AND DR KUZMA :)

Courteous but incompetent. Their so-called specialists were unable to diagnose my dog's condition. There were contradicting/conflicting numbers in my dog's blood tests and the new vet referred us to Canada West. But Canada West could not even diagnose the condition yet, that was all I asked when I first booked the appointment. They could not even suggest any conclusive tests so I ended up turning down further tests as they would have only tortured my dog for no reason except to make me spend even more. For the price you pay, you'd expect them to be way more knowledgeable than this but still no definitive diagnosis for my dog's condition. Shouldn't it be free for not providing the service I went there for?! Money down the drain! Had they at least diagnosed my dog, I would have had no regrets. So much for going to see a specialist at this place. Totally pointless and extremely disappointing! it's unfortunate there is no rating for competency or knowledge I would have given them a -1000!

Took my French Bulldog in for a Mast Cell Tumor removal. He had other issues as well. Dr David Francis is the BEST of the best. He has probably added years to my dog's life by correcting his breathing. My dog's breathing is 100% better. All the staff were very compassionate and helpful. It is like a regular hospital & worth every dollar.

Although the technician staff here are very nice here, there are a lot of bad things about this hospital. Very money orientated and some vets here are very uncompassionate. I know several people who have been horribly burned by this place. Animals getting surgery on the wrong leg for one! My dog was ignored by the vet in hospital for three days, until the vet fianally talked with me. He looked at him for literally 5 monutes, says he needs this medicine that will cost you "maximum $80". He could have started that exact medicine 3 days earlier and it would have saved him days in the hospital! By the way, he gave me the wrong dose per day and the medicine literally cost double. Not cool.

We were referred to Canada West by our veterinarian. Our beloved mini-dachshund has had back problems off and on. Crate rest always worked before, but this time it was obviously different. I came home from work to find him paralyzed. Can West got us in immediately. When we arrived they were waiting at the door. They had Shultz in surgery within 24 hours. Now, 2 days post surgery he is already remarkably better, and will come home tomorrow. Yes, they are horrendously expensive - but I would do it all over again. My dog received excellent care, all my questions were answered, and I was treated with care and compassion.

I brought my dog to this hospital after being refferred by my vet. When I asked the emergency doctor(Dr. Enberg)about the estimate cost of the treatment in the beggining of the consultation, he showed me the abbreviation of the diagnosis which may have already been discussed between him and my vet, and told me that the receptionist will talk to you about this. The receptionist came up to me with huge estimate, and told me to pay at least 75% of it upfront. My dog was already taken away. What else could I do? They repeated the same exams (X-ray, blood collection, etc.) that my vet did on my dog on the same day, and came up with exactly the same diagnosis as that I heard from Dr. Enberg in the begginning. At the final payment, I had to pay more than estimate cost. I clearly remember that the receptionist told me that their extimate is quite accurate. They know exactly how they are going to rip us off from the beginning. Never go to this hospital. You just waste your money.

Brought dog in to see about an ACL surgery. Tech took dog temp and weighed her, then Dr took 3 min to confirm diagnosis. They charged me $179 to confirm what I already knew and to give me quote it would cost between $4100 and $5000 to fix - not inclusive of after care or the pre-assesment. Huge ripoff as other vets charge 1/2 this. Will go elsewhere..and it may not be "the best" but IT IS A DOG not my kid.

Best Vet Care I have ever had ANYWHERE!!! Receptionists were the bees knees, very comforting, compassionate and great listeners. The nurses were very knowledgeable and the doctors told me more in 1 hour than any of the 5 regular vets I have had over the last 7 years. Worth every penny, and more. Especially when you think what it would have cost for the same at a human hospital!! I would recommend this place to anyone for there pets.

Brought in my dog with a herniated disc, receptionist gets on the phone and calls for a 'yknow, a thingie??'.. dog taken in, neurologist examines her, we meet an intern who seemingly collects the exact same information we provided to admitting. Next we are told if we don' want to pay 8000 dollars (up front in full) for surgery, we can euthanize her, no discussion re: conservative therapy or other options. We elect conservative therapy and since we didnt go for surgery they basically left us on our own - EPIC FAIL DR HIGGINS AND CANADA WEST SHAME ON YOU !!
