Dr Fleming fired us as patients over a bag of dog food. My dog was very sick. We were referred to a specialist who was substantially more $ than their in-house person, who performed many unnecessary tests in the name of being 'thorough'. After nearly $10k, the specialist told us our dog had to go on special food purchasable at GAH and that would be refundable if there was an issue. The food made my dog sicker. I contacted GAH to return it for a refund & they replied, in writing, to bring it back for a refund. Upon returning the food I was told they would not be refunding it. They noted that the specialist who said it was refundable didn't work for them. I left their office owing a bill for treatment (approximately equal to the dog) and waited for them to make good on food. A few weeks later I received a package in the mail from Dr Fleming being fired as patients. I had literally spent close to $150000 between 2 dogs at this clinic and they were firing me over a bag of dog food...

They only thing i can say good was they were friendly while they made me surrender my best friend. My dog needed surgry asap to live and they wouldn't help me with a payment plan. My dog was non stop bleeding so i didn't feel i had time to look at other vets. They told me i had to surrender her to save her life so i had no choice. Now i can't have any information even if she lived or what. They are greedy and heartless people and this was so so wrong. I am a single father rasing my small son on my own and all we had in the world was that dog and because this places wanted money fast my son couldn't even say goodbye. absolutely despicable place to bring your animal. i hope they feel our pain like this someday!!!!

I have taken my Golden Retrievers to Guelph Animal Hospital since the mid 90s starting with Harley and most recently with Gibson. Their compassion for Harley, a cancer survivor who had to have one front leg amputated, and Gibson, a love-sponge who left us way too early, has demonstrated to me the importance of finding a vet who is a leader in their field. Dr. Butler is our favourite but all of the vets are superb because they attend training courses, educational seminars, and product seminars in order to ensure that they can provide exactly the care that you and your pet deserve. I have always chosen traditional veterinary medicine for my dogs but GAH also provides homeopathy, naturopathy, massage, acupuncture and more for those that may be interested. Their clinic offers in-stock specialty foods, supplements, grooming aids, toys, accessories and more at reasonable prices. All of the staff at GAH are friendly and truly love your pets like their own.

I love this hospital for its balanced, comprehensive, and compassionate approach. Dr. Butler has treated our cats for various problems, including aggressive cancer. The results are in stark contrast with those of standard treatment, which we saw in our other pets. With a severe illness, you normally expect to see modest success at best before inevitable side effects set in. Quality of life is irrelevant in that system. Dr. Butler, who combines conventional and alternative methods, is concerned with animals' well-being, not just their diseases. This works great for our cats. The one with cancer got paralyzed and wasn't expected to survive beyond a couple of months after palliative radiotherapy at the Guelph university clinic. We asked the clinic about naturopathic options, and they referred us to Dr. Butler. Two years on the cat is alive and running! For the the hospital staff, we also have nothing but praises. They're friendly and dependable. I wish we'd known about this place before!

I brought my dog to see Dr.Smokin after my friend had been taking his pets here for years. She and her technician were amazing. She took her time and answered all of my questions. My poor experience is when I initially called in to book an appointment. The man on the phone seemed irritated when I asked questions about the doctors, services, costs, etc. There was a question that he had to ask one of the doctors so he placed me on hold.He must've forgotten to push the hold button because all I heard was him saying how I was stupid because I didn't understand something all while swearing. I was in such disbelief that I decided to hang up, but my friend who recommended the place urged me to call back. This time I spoke to a lady that was quite lovely and informative and didn't even have to put me on hold. The doctors and the high quality of medicine are excellent and for this I would recommend them. But whoever it was I initially spoke with needs to learn what true customer service is.

This clinic is the most professional vet clinic I have used. The staff are friendly, the facility is fantastic and the Drs and Technicians are extremely kind and professional. If you are tired of being talked at and not to---this is the clinic for you. The Vet discussed my options with me and ensured I was completely informed and not just scared. Can't say enough about the wonderful feeling we got from this team. It's worth the drive to Guelph

I travel from Oakville to see Dr. Butler. I chose Dr. Butler after a great deal of research because of his skills, dedication to his continuing education, and extensive experience in the holistic field. I've always known I made an excellent choice and he never disappoints!!! But - I realized something else recently too. My Dad's cat has been ill, and we've been seeing a local vet for her treatment. I don't want to include details, but I will say I haven't been impressed with the service of the staff (the vet is great). It's made me realize how INCREDIBLY lucky I am to work with the team of professionals at GAH, beyond just Dr. Butler, who are always on top of things, friendly, compassionate and awesome to work with!!! From the tech staff to the front desk staff, I am SO appreciative of everything you do, and while I've always loved you guys, I didn't realize just how much until recently!!! Thank you for being so amazing!!!

They took me without an appointment when I was unhappy with the student clinic up the road. Dr Smolkin is the BEST vet I have ever taken my animals too. She is the QUEEN of vet medicine. Whip smart, funny, takes time to explain in detail what she is doing, answers questions, very caring to my cat, thank you Dr Smolkin. Dr Butler is a condescending jerk (sorry, but it's true), he abruptly cut me off when he asked me a question because I was passively critical of the previous clinic (I didn't want to be, but I had to be to answer the question). So from now on, I specifically request Smolkin, and all is great, yay! :)

I've been a client of Guelph Animal Hospital for years. Everyone is amazing. I prefer to see Dr. Fleming as Riley loves her. She is so patient and friendly and explains everything to us. I trust them completely with our pets health. Our cats like it there too. They did some updates and the clinic is really nice now, with a fun pet boutique up front that has really neat items. I am very happy with my vet clinic.

My dog had her teeth cleaned at the clinic and they were supposed to contact me regarding any potential teeth that would need to be extracted. I hadn't heard from the clinic and assumed that everything was fine. To my surprise, I found out afterwards that they had extracted eight teeth without notifying me. I don't have an issue with their professional judgement, however, they need to follow policies and procedures so that pet owners can be properly informed. It was very unprofessional for them to proceed without contacting me.

I have brought my dogs to the Guelph Animal Hospital for at least 15 years. I have usually seen Rob Butler. Rob and the other Doctors are all awesome. They are patient, caring and informative. They were especially caring when we had to have 2 of our dogs put down. The staff is friendly, caring and amazing. They are reasonably priced even though I question them at times.Buddy and Milo love to go and visit. Thank you for all you do. Craig Wonnell

All the staff at Guelph are friendly and treat clients like they are important to the success of the clinic. I feel that my pets will get the care they need and I receive advice that helps me make the right decision for my pets health. This kind of care makes me feel confident that the cost is a very fair trade for services. I am still amazed at all the services that Guelph AH offers, such as laser therapy and alternative medicine. This makes me feel that I have options when it comes to the health and care of my pets. Guelph AH is a busy practice and occasionally I have to wait, but the staff always let me know when the wait might be long and offer me something to read and coffee/tea/water while I wait. I recommend Guelph AH to all my family and friends.

I have been taking my 14 yr old German shepherd to Guelph to see Dr.Butler for treatments that most vets don't offer. My dog's hind legs suddenly stopped working one day, and after an emergency visit and weekly visits for 4 weeks, my dog was able to get up and walk short distances due to the electro-acupuncture treatments she received. The immediate response to the treatment was amazing, each time you could see the change. 1 year later, she is still with me and mobile thanks to them. Everyone at the clinic has always been very professional and friendly, and the only time I ever had to wait was when an emergency came in which was totally understandable. Usually they are very on track with appointment timing which is nice because I have an hour drive each way. Another great thing - when Dr Butler was on vacation he even had another vet at another clinic who was able to continue my dog's acupuncture treatment for him so she didn't have to miss any.

I have been going to the Guelph Animal Hospital since 2008 when I first got my dog and have not hesitated about continuing my care with them. The staff is always friendly, welcoming and accommodating. The care is exceptional and spans from the front desk to the nurse to the vet - everyone cares so much! I have never doubted that my pets are in very good hands :)

I have been bringing my dog, Maggie, to Guelph Animal Hospital for 7 years. Everyone is so friendly. Dr. Fleming told me that Maggie should have her teeth cleaned. She ended up having some taken out because of infection. I was worried, but after talking to the vet I went ahead with the surgery. Maggie has never been happier. When I picked her up the technician was so patient and answered all of my questions. I trust them with her care and Maggie loves being there!! A+++

When I moved to Guelph in 2003, I left at home a trusted family vet I adored, and worried I would not find that relationship again. It took 4 clinics in Guelph before I found the Guelph Animal Hospital, and I have been taking my pets here ever since. While my pets generally see Dr. Smolkin, over the years I have seen all of the vets here, and I have always been delighted and impressed with their compassion and service. I am in often to buy food and the girls at reception are always pleasant, and better yet they remember me and my pets! I highly recommend them to anyone who asks where to bring their pet, they are fantastic. They are not the cheapest clinic in town, but their prices are more than reasonable, and in exchange I get peace of mind knowing they are in great hands! And the proof of that? My pets are always happy to go to the vet!

Terrible clinic with rude staff and vets. There were 7 reviews for this clinic and all were bad. Strange, but these reviews mysteriously disappeared! They seem to be only in veterinary medicine for the money and attempt to squeeze you for for everything they can get and accuse you of being a bad pet owner if you decline their "help". I will never be back!
