This place has “gotcha” billing policy, they don’t reply to reviews, has the appearance of a gun, friendly group, but a “consumer is the enemy” re: billing. There needs to be more creativity and no punishing practices ($200 deposit on drop-offs w/rationale that “people don’t pay”). That’s BS. They should flex, so pets get service and they get their money. Four years ago I see that I had a similar concern as posted, here. A legitimate small business works “with” consumers and doesen’t place barriers to the care of pets. Paul Maguire, Creating Peaceful Neighborhoods, Palmer

Our lab has had a small benign cyst on his leg and while we were assured by our vet that it was nothing harmful we decided to look into getting it removed. She referred us to North Star. They wanted 1400$ to remove the cyst.
They also added a 125$ specialist exam. All he did was look at it and tell me he could remove it. I'd expect really good service while I was waiting, but no. We got there promptly at 2:00 PM for a 2:15 appointment. We were seen at 3:12.
My advice, check with your local vet for all issues. I'm guessing they pay vets for referrals from reading all the other comments. Friendly and practical service should not come at the price of an arm and leg.
Their Qoute:
125$: Specialist Exam
49$: A dog Profile (height, weight etc...)
170$: Cyst Removal
107$: IV placement
95$: Use of the Clinic
57$: Analgesic Injection
78.20$: Injection-PreOp
146$: Biopsy
30$: Meds
100$: Misc Fee
147$: Anesthesia
160$: Operating Room Fee
112$: Surgical Drape and Gowns
35$: D

Had an dog die there due to bad diagnosis. Was forced by local call schedule to go there (should have drive to anchorage to the ER vet- I now know.) 2 vets were totally off on what was wrong, didn't read symptoms properly, didn't treat with antibiotics when blood work showed he needed it. They was totally off on what they thought was wrong and didn't listen when I told them some of the things they were seeing (like a heart murmur) was new (not something he had before). When he collapsed, they put a saline IV in him and then watched him die. I was the one that figured out what was wrong, but by the time they *finally* started antibiotics in his IV, he was dying. Got stuck with them on emergency and because my regular vet was out of state. This happened a year ago and my heart is still sick over an necessary death. A friend's bulldog also died there after a toe nail clipping when they over heated her.

I have 3 cats & a dog. Drs. Beck and Henry and their staff have been amazing with all four. Their knowledge, commitment and genuine love of animals is evident every time I take one of my "kids" to them. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the clinic is always immaculate. I only wish they would offer a payment plan for higher-end expenses. Having said that - they are definitely worth what they charge. I would recommend this clinic and the doctors to anyone new to the valley, and anyone that is dissatisfied with the other options here in the Valley.

Great people. They DO need more vets because there's often long waits even with appointments. BUT they are caring, having called to check on our sick dog, etc.

Dr. Beck goes above and beyond when treating our dogs. Not many vets will take the time to call and check on an animal, nor do they give you a home phone number to reach them with questions. This has always been done for us. The clinic is clean and well run. When an animal has a problem that is not easy to diagnose, they do the extra research to find answers. I truly appreciate that!

Dr. Whittington and his staff are wonderful. They offer a full range of medical needs with friendly knowledgable technicians.I understand they hope to be 24 hours and having them for a regular Vet as well as a emergency vet just makes me more comforted knowing the doctor knows my dog. He is also a Dr. who is honest about the condition of your pet, showing you and explaining you diagnosics so that you can make and informed decision as to how to treat your pet.

The clinic worked my husky in when my regular clinic would not see him. (too booked) They were wonderful. The dog had his hip out because our horse ran over and kicked him. It was a stressful event that the staff provided emotional support besides the vet care. They sedated, xrayed, and popped the hip back in. Husky was good as new without expensive surgery!

New facility that so far is doing a good job. Pull their own call, open 7 days a week and later hours as well. More customer oriented than many clinics. Computer terminals in all exams rooms make for good communication and record keeping.
