This vet seemed to be very knowledgeable and loves animals of course, but there are other issues. Quite salesy and pricey. Likes to push products and extra tests. I found myself using my common sense and saying no to alot of it. It seems euthanasia for an aged and failing pet is a no no here. Pet owners are left feeling bad and only option is more tests and products! This clinic is not always clean either.I found another vet who is more down to earth and compassionate, very good, and charges far less, with no unnecessary tests. There are some really good ones out there! Beware!

We have brought our 3 pets (2 dogs and 1 cat) to Dr Schell for almost 9 years and absolutely love the service and care offered. Our pets even love going to see the staff and get treats and cuddles.
Amazing for routine checkups, scheduled procedures, emergency care or injury follow up and even daycare/boarding.
The prices are a bit more than other vets, however this has never deterred us. Dr Schell always gives a low (basic) and high (extensive) estimate on any recommended options and has always been very open to dialogue with me when I've sought more information before making a decision. I have never felt pressured or judged to include treatments that I didn't support either.
Our youngest dog has much anxiety and behavioral issues and the whole team has been very supportive, helping us figure out a combination between natural and medical remedies as well as training technique

Dr Julie Schell was more concerned with making money then the overall health of my dog. We put a lot of trust in her we feel very disappointed in her. She over prescribed my pup every time we went in there. we never got a clean bill of health for our 3 year old pup. She highly recommended a blood allergy test and we found out later that these are not reliable. Along with other drugs and products that she pushes, all found to be unnecessary. Do not trust her, and if you have any hesitation about one of her recommended procedures - get a second opinion. She drives a porch and ducatti for a reason.

I've been taking my pets to Dr. Schell and her team for 11 years now. Dr. Schell is so knowledgeable and up to date on the latest and best practices, I always feel confident that she will be able to help my pets when they are in need of care. Not only is the staff on the hospital side well versed in their abilities, but I take my pets to the boarding center regularly and they are always well looked after and well exercised. I feel confident and trust Bow Bottom with all my pet care needs.

While we found the staff and Dr. Schell to be wonderful with our beloved cat, he was ailing and near death. We were not even given the option of euthanasia even though that was clearly the best option for our boy. We were instead given 4 "options" ranging from $350 - $1200 for various treatments (again, out pet was CLEARLY too far gone). We ended up agreeing to $400 worth of tests after false hope was given to us. Our cat died at home that same evening. The humane and compassionate decision should have been to euthanize. Instead we watched our cat suffer and struggle to breath for hours before finally passing away. It was absolutely awful. Part of compassion is knowing when to advise your clients that it's okay to say goodbye and euthanize. The false hope and ordering of tests etc was the wrong choice and the test results provided us with NO peace of mind at all. It definitely felt like a cash grab by the vet clinic.

I came in to purchase food for my pet just after 5pm and I could not help but over hear two employee's at the end of the hallway gossiping about another employee or client.Based on what I heard and the lack of professionalism I will not be returning back to your facility for my pets food purchases and services. You never know who is listening.

Bow Bottom Veterinary Hospital is one of the most professional vet care centers I have ever encountered. Our 3 pets over the last 10 years have had excellent treatment and care. When problems arise, Dr. Schell and her staff are caring, thorough, knowledgeable and will do whatever it takes to diagnose and treat the problem. It is very helpful when sometimes conventional methods don't seem to help with the problem and other techniques like acupuncture, herbal medicine, and chiropractic can be of great assistance. Animals can't talk so sometimes it takes time and patience to do the job right. Well done Dr. Schell and staff.

Dr. Schell is a good salesperson. I believe she utlizes scare tactics and false promises to increase your vet bill. I brought my dog into her clinic for a fairly simple problem (UTI), and I left feeling overwhelmed, exhausted and scared due to her jumping from one topic to another, recommending every possible vacinnation and telling me my dog could have a rare (.1%) condition and that we should probably send her for a CT scan ($1000). But "it was ok because pet insurance should cover most of it". I refused but still left with a $1500 bill, and still required further visits. Upon follow up visits, she continued to recommend additional testing after we knew the infection had resolved and even added prescriptions to my bag without consulting me prior. She's a very passionate and knowledgeable vet, but not trustworthy in my opinion.

Dr Shell has an amazing attitude regarding the way she treats her patients. Staff seem helpful and willing to spend the time to explain meds and go over estimates. I like the amount of options I am given to help treat my pet. This clinic has many means of treatment options including Easten medicine. If you do your homework, you'll find Bow Bottom is fairly priced with clinics in the area. I called around for estimates and found that even though Bow Bottom was pricier, it was because they thought to include everything in the estimate so I was not left with a surprise end cost. Unfortunately I have experienced this in the past. They are quality care for your pets. Always smells so clean and fresh, which you don't often expect in an animal clinic. My dog loves these girls! I can never get him to leave.

My pets have been seeing Dr. Schell for 9 years now. She's a very passionate and compassionate veterinarian who cares about all of the pets that go to her establishment as if they were her own. Her staff is amazing on both the hospital side and the boarding side. She helped to diagnose our dog with insulinoma (pancreatic cancer) and I am proud to say that he survived and is thriving on the care that she and her staff provide. I am very satisfied with the work that they do for my pets.

July 14, 2013. HEADS UP> I have dealt with this clinic for years...but not anymore. Dr Julie Schell is a vet that is very very expensive and worse she did not deliver the results I paid dearly for. The worst combination expensive and no results. There was not even a hint of apology or even feel bad when I approached her. One would think she would have a conscience and throw in something every once and a while for along standing customer- a service or a product......not a chance. This gal charges for anything she can. I would never recommend this vet to anyone. Z

Took my puppy in for his first check up after his flight from the USA. Dr.Schell immediately doused him in some oils. I asked her not to but she put on one more before I covered his back with my arm and she dripped the third oil on me! She then tried to do a chiropractic adjustment on my 8 week old puppy. I pulled him off the table and told her I just want vaccines done. She did them, then did his anal glads and grabbed a fecal sample. I told her he had been tested (fecal float and giardia) in the USA and they had the results (NEGATIVE) but she said she wanted to test him anyway because the USA tests weren't good enough. Honestly. It's been a struggle to get his records moved. I've requested 4 times they be moved to a different clinic but my new clinic has yet to get them. Julie Schell was 22 minutes late for my appointment, she is nice, but not punctual at all. I love the daycare center, the techs are very nice and Maddie and Merissa are helpful but I won't be going back.

I had been a client of this practice for a few years but then moved to a different part of the city and tried a couple neighborhood vets. However, my new experiences were not good. I will be returning my pet care back down to Bow bottom. The time they spend the me. the emails and communication I receive from them have set the bar high for my expectations. There is a positive vibe, from the moment you walk in the door. For me it is a no brainer and am happy to make the drive across the city as I know me and my pets are in the best care. These $ ratings shock me as I really did not find the prices any different from the 2 other clinics I went to. The experience with the Dr Schell and staff were incomparable. Worth the Drive!

I took my dog to two different animal hospitals for a diagnosis one told me he's was going to die. I spent over $1500 in 24 hours and faced spend thousands more just to get an answer. I took him to Bow bottom and in under 12 hours they had it figured out for a 1/4 of the cost. I'm not saying its was cheep I'm just saying I got what I payed for and more importantly I got my pet back. Plus the the knowledge of natural herbs and medicens helped save from unessary medication. Best Vet hospital I've been to! - 30 year pet owner

This clinic quoted us at almost $500.00 to have our cat put down. That is outrageous. Thank goodness we are smart enough to call around. Buyer Beware

good facilities, staff are train to be nice but not realty care much. Dr. Schell is great but not really listened to you an spend the problem clearly. after i took my pet home we are still wondering what is the problem but besides going home with our pet, we also went home with a hugh bill and so much over charged item that we can get it somewhere else cheaper. They are not just over charge, the whole experience i had there was, Then main thing they care about is money!!! but thank god we found a nicer vet after that who cares and not as pretentious. i will not bring my pets back to this place again.

Outstanding Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Schell is a talented and gifted Veterinarian who has an extremely qualified staff. They offer us a full range of services including diagnosis, surgery, alternate methods, day and overnight care, high quality food and most importantly love for your all our pets. On several emergency situations they willingly assisted our pets. Their prices are fully worth the professional care that has extended the quality of life of our pets.

Good location and good facility. Staff seemed ok. But it is very expensive. Frist visit was 3 times what was quoted. I felt pressured to spend more money on things, medicine and tests that may not have been necessary. I will be finding a new vet that I believe is in it for the animals and not the money.

Our experience with bow bottom and our two dogs has been very good - with one major exception. The staff and Dr. are friendly and welcoming - we appreciated it very much. You can really tell the Dr. loves animals. Their costs on the other hand are not only unreasonable, they are completely unacceptable. Although I like the staff I will never be going back to Bow Bottom. It is a complete rip off - you can find the same services at another clinic that will charge at least 1/2 the cost (speaking from experience, I was quoted over $900 from Bow Bottom for something, when I called around, the first clinic I called quoted me $315). I learned the hard way - shop around. You can find great vets, staff and clinics for reasonable rates. Owning a dog doesnt have to leave you broke!

Wonderful little clinic. Dr. and staff very nice and friendly. Fees are very expensive. Who charges 19.00 dispensing fee for 8.00 worth of drugs?? That's just gouging.

Both my dogs have received top-notch care from both vets and all the staff at Bow Bottom Vet. They are on the expensive side. For the quality care my dogs receive and the variety of state-of-the-art equipment and services they provide (as well as some eastern medicine) I am happy to pay what I do.
