Click to report rating    11/7/19   1     1     1     1   I had only called Askey to see how busy they were as I had to bring my cat in (Burgess was very busy and Askey is nearby). The girl that answered the phone asked what the issue was. I told her my cat was having breathing difficulties. She put me on hold to check with the vet and then told me the vet WOULD NOT TREAT HER . I could only bring her in if I was putting her down.SERIOUSLY??? what kind of hospital is this ?!? Would NEVER trust them with my pets !! (Side note I took my cat to Burgess and they successfully treated her) RID: 68705

Click to report rating    5/10/17   2     3     1     1   Staff always seems stressed, uncaring and unfriendly and the turnover is horrendous. Even though my cat had a designated vet at this clinic, every time I had an appt it was with a different vet with their own opinions of her health. I was requested on 2 occasions to bring her in with a full bladder-she's very old-and both times I waited over 1/2 hour to be called and both times the poor kitty urinated all over her carrier! My last visit was a terrible experience. They did the blood work and then left her in the back for over an hour until they had time to do the billing - I was in the waiting room hearing her cry. I left there in tears. She was put on meds about 3 years ago and I was forced to have her blood tested every few months or they refused to sell me the meds she needed to sustain her health. The costs for tests, treatment and meds are ridiculous!!! I have since been to a new clinic and what a difference. It's simply a CASH GRAB! RID: 63600
Click to report rating    9/18/16   2     4     2     1   I have been with this clinic for 5 years. Over the last year I have spent the thousands on pet care due to both my animals developing conditions. Dr. Ng is probably the only good thing about this clinic. The reception staff make you feel guilty for not doing all the tests, the owner is cold and un-caring. I feel like I can't leave there without spending hundreds of dollars. I will not be returning and I don't recommend this clinic to anyone. RID: 61619

8/11/14   1     1     1     1   One weekend my dog was not feeling herself. I had called my vet on saturday and got advice and was told if she wasnt doing better the next day to bring her to a vet. She ended up getting worse the next day. She went downhill really quickly to the point where she couldnt even lift her head. We called Askeys right away as she needed to get in asap. We told them her symptoms and that she couldnt stand or hold her head up. This was about 11am. They told us we could bring her in at 5:30pm! We told them she wouldnt make it that long. They then said the earliest they could do was 3:30pm. So much for being an emergency vet! We ended up finding another emergency vet to take her to. I understand they have other animals in there, but when it becomes a life or death situation, that animal should be bumped to the top of the list. Needless to say,I will not take my dogs to that vet,nor will I ever recommend them to anyone RID: 53026

6/30/14   4     3     4     2   Aks for Dr. Joanne Cheng. My first experience at this facility was with Dr. Gesa Kohn-Gould and was not pleasant. She seemed abrupt, impatient, not very friendly (knowledgeable but not very personable). Next visit was with Dr. Joanne Cheng. SHE WAS FANTASTIC!!. She was knowledgable, pleasant and honest. Not only did she listen to all my concerns patiently but followed up with phone calls even after a week following my visit to check how my dog was doing. I kept calling her about questions and left messages and she called back with answers. I have found a vet for my dog!. My dog will only be seeing RID: 52337
12/5/13   1     1     1     1   My rating is based on my interaction with the owner of Askey, Dr. Gesa Kohn-Gould. We took our cat in for some issues he was having, and that's when it started. First, the doctor was incredibly condescending to us. I won't get in to specifics, but her attitude was utterly astonishing. One of the worst parts of the whole experience was when she did the physical exam of our cat. She made US (the owners) restrain him, rather than getting a vet assistant. Obviously I am not experienced with this, and she was very impatient that I was not "holding him down enough". The lack of professionalism she displayed was just disgusting. After all of this, she also recommended about 10 other things we should do with him. This place is a CASH GRAB. They really made us feel like they don't care about animals, and really just want to wring as much $$$ out of you as they can. If Dr. Gesa Kohn-Gould ever reads this, I just wanted to say you should be ashamed of how you handle your practice. RID: 48607
7/27/13   1     2     1     2   I have a 4lb who is 12. I have worked for 2 animal hospitals and volunteered at shelters for years. Also, I'm a pet care provider and own a great company. Never in my life have I ever been treated so poorly, while in the company of what should have been other animal lovers. My dog was attacked in my neighborhood. Bit in the eye and it was bleeding pretty bad. I'm new to the area and with shaky hands, googled 24 hour care. This place came up. Rushed him there and when I arrived, the front counter was unattended for a good few minutes. Straight up rude and miserable workers. Try's to yank my dog out of his carrier while it's still rested on the counter?!? He could have fallen. I brought him out on my own and she took him to the back. Left me sitting there and when she did come back, first words out of her mouth "So, we put the dog down..." I fully freaked. She cut me off by yelling at me "No!!! Down on the ground"! Umm really? Either mentally disturbed or just really stupid RID: 45892
Click to report rating    5/12/13   1     3     2     2   DO NOT GO HERE FOR AFTER HOUR SERVICE! The vet that worked the midnight shift was terrible and I seriously questioned whether he actually knew what he was talking about. I simply regretted having taken my little puppy to this place. It was an all round bad experience and I felt so guilty as I went here because they were a bit cheaper - you get what you pay for!! RID: 42435
Click to report rating    4/13/13   5     5     4     2   I bring my senior dog and kitten here to see Dr. Coles. Dr. Coles and the vet techs that I have seen are very friendly. And they are open 24 hours! I haven't had any problems here before. The only thing I don't like is that their prices are high. For instance $260 to neuter my male kitten, includes blood test and meds but still the most expensive I've seen. I'm probably going to take my kitten else where to get neutered but I will continue to take my pets to Askey for their annual checkups. RID: 41748
Click to report rating    3/31/13   2     4     3     2   Very unhappy with this vet, switched to Bay Cities a while ago. Our dog was terrified of the vet, because of a particular vet at this location. would not recommend. I take to Burgess Vet Emergency clinic if after hours, would never go back to Askey. RID: 41434
Click to report rating    3/28/13   5     5     5     4   Askey Animal Hospital saved my cat's life with emergency surgery. If they had not been open 24 hours he would have died. I am glad they were able save my kitty's life. RID: 41392
Click to report rating    3/28/13   1     1     1     1   An all around awful experience. We brought our dog there twice because she was eminating an a sour cheese like scent. The vet told us twice that nothing was wrong. Well we got another opinion and turns out she had a very bad infection. I guess you learn your lesson when you don't research a place. RID: 41387
Click to report rating    3/26/13   5     5     5     5   Askey's is great! I brought my cat into Askey as he wasn't eating and had diarrhea. It was late, around 12:30 am. The receptionist was friendly and immediately put us in an exam room. I am pretty nutty when it comes to my pets but was impressed that the doctor was very patient with me. We ended up doing bloodwork and my kitty was hospitalized for a few days. The vet tech said that I did a good job taking care of a mature cat like mine as his coat was shiny and he didn't move like an old cat! I found the doctor to be very understanding as he went through the estimate; he explained what each item was for and gave me the opportunity to accept or decline. I got a daily update on my cat and my bill and was always asked if it was okay to do whatever test or procedure. I found Askey to be very thorough and they took very good care of my cat. I felt like they cared for my cat and they readily asked all my questions, no matter how silly they were! I'd bring any of my pets to Askey for sure! RID: 41331
Click to report rating    3/5/13   1     1     1     1   When my dog was very ill we hospitalized him here for 5 days. Everyday he saw a different vet with a different diagnosis and a different remedy. Everyday and every night when we went to visit we were told he was dying or on the mend and then told the opposite the next time we spoke to another vet. It was the worst experience of my life and my families. They told my family our dog needed a biopsy, despite the fact that he was very ill and would likely not live through it. Thank goodness we went with the least invasive procedure, a plasma transfusion. As well, they wanted to keep him there for 5 more days to monitor despite the fact that he was on the mend. All in all a terrible experience. I don't know if it is a lack of compassion for owners and family or too many vets working on one animal but I will never take my dog back. We have found a great new vet for our dog who has lived 2 years even though they told us he was dying. RID: 40867

12/13/12   3     4     4     1   I HAD my cat and dog under their care-I wish I hadn't. Cat-Not informed that timing of blood test/other test should have been mid stream of med timing-Giving more accurate results. Results always came back adjusting meds and requiring a follow up tests. More tests and more cost. Eventually moved vet clinics - but the damage was done and condition could not be controlled.I had to put my cat down as condition was too far gone. DOG-last set of annual shots terrified him-they asked if a muzzle should be put on him. He's a senior and has NEVER required a muzzle. I don't know what they did to him, but taking him to the vet now terrifies him. He too, it now going to another clinic where we have to deal with his fear. My pets and I have paid dearly for going to Askey. I will never step foot in this clinic again! RID: 39043
Click to report rating    11/9/12   5     3     3     2   Brought our bearded dragon there because he was gasping and sounded like he had a respiratory infection. Rates were the cheapest, big mistake. Take them to a professional, do your research. They tried to weigh him on a kitchen scale that was too small, they thought he was underweight when he is actually on the larger side of healthy and she thought he had a fungal infection when we said he was a fire colour. The medicine they gave us wasn't enough for the entire three weeks he needed to be on and we left not feeling any better about his health. Please do your research and don't go to places just because of the cost. RID: 38376
8/12/12   2     2     1     1   In a way I'm glad other people have had these experiences because it makes me think I'm not crazy. I was pretty shocked to see a rating of 3 out of 5 but the facilities are pretty good, particularly after the renovation. They do tons of tests and don't ask first and make you feel like a **** if you try to put off a treatment or something, especially if it's expensive. They regularly took my cat from me into the back so that I was not present for blood draws and so on (and then came back and told me what they'd done and how much I was expected to pay) saying that he was so bad they had to have 2 people to muzzle him and hold him down. Went to a different vet who let me be there and hold him and she remarked how docile he was. They went against my wishes when he was hospitalized - he was eating if I fed him and so I went back and forth to feed him (they said I was welcome any time) but then started force feeding him even when I asked them not to. I will never ever go back. RID: 36448
12/12/11   5     5     5     3   Love my vet, Dr. Ng. She is kind, personable, takes lots of time to investigate and explain things and really loves animals. This clinic is pricey, though, and I think they are encouraged to push extra tests and procedures. RID: 29801
10/22/11   5     5     5     1   We had to put our 14 1/2 year old dog down a few days ago. At a time like this one does not even think to ask how much. We were shocked to find that they charged us $230.00, and if one of us wanted to be present it would be another $80.00! The next day we did some phoning around and found that we could have had this done for $150.00, and they wwould not charge any extra to have one person present. I am still fuming over what this vet stole from us. For the sake of money he took something priceless from us - the chance to comfort our companion animal as a final act of love, a chance to help bring closure to the heartbreak left behind. I felt it was our duty to expose to the world what an act of inhumanity this establishment did to us. RID: 28500
Click to report rating    7/16/11   1     4     4     2   I visited the Askey Animal Hospital with my 13 year old cat one night when I could not go to my regular vet. My cat had gone 2 days without eating and drinking and became lethargic. The vet presented me with only the worst case scenarios leading me to believe that I might have to put my cat to sleep. He told me I could take him home, give him medication and an appetite stimulant. Within 24 hours I was told to to hospitalize my cat, which i could not afford, or "make my decision". The day after my visit I realized I was given an inadequate amount of the medication, and that they had forgotten to give me the specialized wet food the vet prescribed. Thankfully, the medication helped my cat, but I did not appreciate being scared to death by a vet that did not offer to do any tests to further research my cat's illness. My regular vet found a liver issue that can be controlled by a special diet. My cat has been regularly eating and drinking since. RID: 26271
