My pet suffered due to a critical misdiagnosis by Dr. Baird, a fact made undeniable when her own colleague at CSU later provided the correct diagnosis. After this clear case of malpractice was internally confirmed, I spent weeks attempting to resolve the issue with the administration. On June 17, 2025, I formally requested a meeting with Hospital Director Dr. Chad Johannes to address my concerns. My request was ignored as were follow-up attempts. Left with no other option, I filed a formal complaint against Dr. Baird with the Colorado State Board of Veterinary Medicine (DORA) for the malpractice and misdiagnosis. I am making this public to warn other pet owners. The culture at this hospital, from the initial malpractice by Dr. Baird to the retaliation from its Director, appears to prioritize silencing clients over ethical care and accountability. Please exercise extreme caution. RID: 71286
Click to report rating    8/29/13   1     4     1     1   We recently had our dog at CSU vet center for a simple MRI and while in there care she received very poor attention she was able to chew on her own IV catheter. We were not made aware this had happened nor did we know it had happened until 8 days later when she vommited a very large piece of it up. When I contacted them regarding this they admitted they knew she had done this and they "thought" they had all the pieces! They were concerned about her having more in her at this point and stressed to us how it could cause serious problems in the digestive track and kill our dog. They advised us to bring her back in to take xrays we did this on a Sunday this took 6 hrs of our day to assure our beloved pet would be ok . We also waited an hour and a half when we arrived for them to call in there xray dept! They knew we were coming why wasn't they already called? I think it should be known to all potential customers of CSU the care and practices that CSU provides its customers. RID: 46618
Click to report rating    1/7/11   2     4     3     1   We took our baby guinea pig here for an eye infection on New Years and paid $89 to hear it would heal on it's own and if it didn't to come back (pay another $40) and they would give us some antibiotics. Vet student didn't know anything about g.p's and I only got to speak to the vet for 5 seconds as he had other cases...still not sure what I spent $89 on?? RID: 21845
Click to report rating    6/26/09   4     5     3     2   We had a mixed experience with CSU. Your pet receives the best of technology. A concern is you are paying to see a specialist for your animal -- and often you are seeing a student. Frankly, you are paying top prices for this service. We were not comfortable that a vet would simply follow up on the paper trail of their students. We wanted more direct expertise for the situation. One of the students was truly an asset to the program. However, other students can be a little caught up in new found 'prestige'... and that gets a little old. The teaching experienced vets need to be more involved and visible. If you have an emergency -- this is the best hospital to go to. I would definately recommend them. RID: 13310
Click to report rating    2/15/09   5     5     4     5   The vets at James Voss treated our dog who was diagnosed with late stage lymphoma. They gave him another great year of life that he never would have had otherwise. The vets and nurses and everyone there were all so good to him that he actually seemed to enjoy getting chemotherapy. He just loved visiting all his friends at CSU, and everyone was honest, forthright, and sympathetic to us too. I'd recommend this hospital to anyone who has a pet with cancer or any other serious condition. It can be very busy and hectic there at times, but any minor inconveniences were well worth the quality treatment we received. RID: 11642
Click to report rating    6/16/08   1     2     1     3   I did an internship here last summer. I can not say I was entirely impressed. Colorado State is the second best veterinary school in the country. I did not feel that the hospital reflects this. I especially felt this in the anesthesia branch of the hospital. They really allowed me to do perform things on animals that I shouldn't have (i.e. it was way too advanced for my knowledge). After interning at this hospital, I would never bring an animal of mine here. RID: 8923
Click to report rating    2/2/08   3     4     4     5   Going in, you have to know that it is what is-a teaching hospital. The students can be very attentive, but they ultimately reflect the attitude of the doctor with which they are working/assigned. I have had two pets treated there and we know who we can work with and who to stay away from. It takes some doing, navigating the "system" and dealing with those who we felt we unpalatable. In no way do we blame the students (though, in a rare case, you will get those students who are under the "spell" of those whom you deem unworakable or just a nasty student). It is, at best, a fair trade for supposed cutting-edge technology. I can say that their ER is top-notch (please note that you CANNOT call and check on your pet, they are much too busy for that and you will get your head chopped off for trying to do so). If your pet needs the best hopitalization, he/she will get that here, but beyond that, it is hit-or-miss with the specialists. No "special"treatment here, despite age/condition. RID: 7175
Click to report rating    12/14/07   1     2     1     2   This is a teaching hospital. You rarely ever speak to a doctor, and usually only interact with students. We were trying to take our cats to Australia, and the student who filled out the form instead of our doctor (Dr. Ruch-Gallie) mixed up there microchip ID's. Now we are unable to take our cats to Australia. We found this out 4 days before we leave. It is too expensive to have them shipped, so now we are scrambling to break apart our family and hopefully find them a good home. Dr. Ruch-Gallie is an inept instructor and did not properly supervise or teach her students. Take your pets here at your own risk. RID: 6670
