We went to Dr. Prata for a second opinion on our Melo. I agree he is not warm and fuzzy but knowledgeable which is more important. (He was not rude, just straight forward). He told us our dog was in "excruciating" pain and we should do the humane thing. Of course these were not the words we wanted to hear, but at the same time, if he wasn't an animal person, he stood to make a lot of money with us, as we would have done anything to help our baby.I live on LI, but would travel to Bklyn anytime to have Dr. Prata treat my pet. His assistant, Heather was great also. Always available to answer any and all questions. Love these people.

My dog Sonny Boy received the best possible care from Dr. Prata and he explained everything, he is an amazing surgeon and was highly recommended by my Vet. He and his staff are excellent and I am glad I took Dr. Prata advice.

Dr.Prata was amazing! No one could diagnose my Beagle Carlie. Said she had herniated disc in her neck,her back, all wrong!! He immediately looked in her ears and saw she had a horrendous infection all the way down the ear canal. Solid plugs of infection. This was causing the neck pain. He did surgery within a few hours because he could not bear her being in pain a minute longer than necessary. He is brilliant! So caring and a sweet man.Called right after to let me know she was ok. His assistant Heather is also top notch; a real sweetheart! She took such loving care of my Carlie. I have to travel for an hour to get there but it's worth it. I trust him like no other vet. Lots of places now are just into the money but Dr.Prata really cares about his patients. Couldn't recommend him more highly. He also repaired the ACL on my friend's SharPei and did a great job.

Dr. Prata was very rude towards us both times that we had brought our dog to see him with orthopedic issues. The second time we went to see him, we had reservations, but thought we would give him a second chance, however, he proved to be just as rude as the first time. On top of that he wasn't able to tell us what was wrong with our dog nor did he make an effort. We paid $150 for 20 minutes and Dr. Prata talked mostly to the attending vet about our dog and not explaining much to us. I do not recommend this vet for your dog.
