Click to report rating    4/27/20   1     3     1     1   I went to this clinic on emergency when my cat had a muscle spasms or seizures after feeling not well for 2 days. You would assume doctors working with animals know how to approach animals but apparently it wasn't the case in my case. Dr. Anthony Abo El Saad wasn't even able to examine the cat "because she was aggressive and was hissing at him" so he came up with some random explanation that she had this muscle spasm or seizure cause she sniffed smth. toxic at home. I asked him if he felt multiple lumps on her chest which I felt at home and he said no. The next day I went to our regular vet they examined the cat and found out that her lumps spread a lot and these are cancer lumps. How you can call yourself a doctor if you don't even know how to examine scared animal and telling owners some weird stuff out of nowhere... But they didn't forget to charge me $156.45 for Emergency exam... Terrible service and such unprofessional doctor should not be treating the animals! RID: 69204
Click to report rating    2/6/18   5     5     5     4   Had to bring my dog here after he was having some breathing problems - the staff took him in immediately - paged the vet to an exam room STAT and started running tests on him. They asked us his history and was very thorough. After a chest xray it was found that he had long time lung cancer, and not a lot of hope for him going forward - we had to put him down. The process, although very sad, was peaceful and the staff were all very compassionate, especially the vet, Dr. Melissa Tannahill. She was respectful, answered all our questions, was very patient and made the experience slightly less traumatic. If we need 24 hour vet service in the future, we will come here - hope we don't though. Thank you Guardian. RID: 65537

10/10/17   1     3     1     1   My dachshund had a disc rupture and I was told to go to guardian. The surgeon was very good and my doggie can walk, but that was the only good thing about my experience (although the most important!). The front desk staff and intake staff were horrible! The intake staff told me that it was my fault for buying a dachshund and she likely would never be able to walk again. The front desk staff were rude and the first thing they asked for was my credit card, which they immediately pre authorized for $5,000. The care was also EXTREMELY expensive - the final bill was over $6,500. Unless I have a major emergency, I will NEVER go back. RID: 64813

7/6/17   1     1     1     1   I have never seen such disrespectful, rude and belittling staff in my life.and not only to me I heard them being very rude on the phone to customers too Very RUDE. I was treated like dirt and all they were worried about is money and cost and absolute zero care for life's greatest companion. The so called vet came in and stepped over my sick puppy and started taking about cost and money showing me cost sheet And signing something before even asking anything about my pet!!!! Worst Place In Edmonton!!!! DO NOT go here. Beware !!!! They are only about the money and triple the cost of anywhere else for everything!!! I needed eye drops for my puppy and they wanted to charge me 95.00 And did not want to just give me a prescription where I could get them for 20.00 at G&E pharmacy. AGAIN BEWARE for the well being of you and your pet avoid this place ! RID: 64107
Click to report rating    3/6/17   5     5     5     5   Dr Colin is amazing, I brought my lab in who was dignosed with cancer. He successfully removed it, we have been back several times since, and I just love the way he is with my princess. He is very gentle and kind with her, as she is very sensitive.A huge thank you to him and the staff. RID: 62928

1/8/15   5     5     5     4   For EMERGENCY services, Guardian is amazing. Sure they're expensive, but that's because they are an EMERGENCY CLINIC. I came in with my dog late one night because he started having seizures. They kept him over night and ran all kinds of tests and even had a cardiologist come out and look at him the very next day. He eventually came home for a few days, but shortly after he started having more seizures, so we went back to Guardian. They met us at the door with a stretcher for my dog, and got him in right away. In the end my dog couldn't pull through, and we did have to put him down, but the staff was incredibly compassionate, explained the entire process and gave us all the time we needed to say good bye before we proceeded. Even the vet that was with us at the end to put him down shed a small tear. Yes, it was expensive. Yes, my dog died in the end anyways. But I would absolutely take any pet there in the future for an emergency. RID: 55368

1/7/15   1     1     1     1   It is too bad there isn't a lower rating than a 1. The least caring staff I have ever had the misfortune to run into. Took in my Guinea Pig who was clearly in pain and dying. Charged more than 2 1/2 times what my regular vet clinic would have charged for euthanasia. The doctor who injected the solution was very rough and clearly didn't care about the animal at all. When his heart finally stopped beating she jumped up and said "it's gone" almost gleefully and then tried to sell me a paw print at more than double the cost of anywhere else. It may have only been a guinea pig but he was a living, breathing creature that was in pain and deserved better in his last moments on earth than to be treated as an annoyance. I would never, under any circumstances set foot in this clinic ever again and I tell as many people as I can to stay away from this place. Edmonton has another emergency vet clinic downtown and I would go there if I needed emergency care for a pet again. RID: 55340

6/27/14   5     5     5     5   We were advised by our vet that Dr. Cockwill is one of the best internal medicine specialists in Alberta if not Canada & we definitely agree, as he's absolutely phenomenal!!! He is extremely knowledgeable, has amazing analytical skills, has excellent pet/people skills, & is able to take the symptoms of your pet & put the pieces together of the puzzle to make a quick & accurate diagnosis. It is because of Dr. Cockwill diagnosing our dog at an early stage of the progression of her life-threatening disease, our dog's prognosis is greatly improved as she will live a longer life & have less damage to her brain. We can't thank Dr. Cockwill enough!!! RID: 52306
Click to report rating    3/22/13   5     5     5     5   I have only gone to this clinic to see Dr. Kim Hawkes Cardiologist and i have nothing but good things to say about her and the staff. They were friendly and really went out of their way to ensure my dog was confortable at every stage! Dr. Hawkes cares deeply for her patients and makes me feel better equiped to handle a dog with congestive heart failure who will eventually succumb to his illness. RID: 41246
12/7/12   2     5     5     3   My 9yr. old Rottweiler tore her CCL and needed a TPLO to repair the damage. My verterinary clinic referred me to Guardian for the procedure. I did some research and found that Guardian has an excellent group of specialist staff with lots of experience in treating this kind of injury in large dogs. What I was not expecting were semi incompetent veterinary techs and AHT's who were extremely rude and borderline hostile. I can understand that working in an "emergency room" environment can be very stressful on staff but that is not an excuse for them to make my dog and myself uncomfortable and increase our anxiety. On a more positive note, our consultation with Dr. Fowler went extremely well and he seems like a knowledgeable and kind individual. I decided that having an experienced and certified surgeon working on my dog is more important than how we were treated by AHT's so we went ahead with the surgery. The operation went well and I am very pleased with the recovery my dog is making. RID: 38921
Click to report rating    10/14/12   5     5     5     5   Really good staff. They care all the time. When I came in the morning the front staff was very nice and offered us a coffee. We did come in a stressful situation and the veterinary did very well to explain what happened and why. Wish this clinic did vaccines and regular check up. Well done staff!! RID: 37809
10/1/12   1     1     1     1   I was afraid our dog had a stroke or seizure-wanted to get her checked out make sure she was ok. Reception not friendly-nurse that took her temp was nice-only seen her for maybe 3 min&were sent back to wait.Vet was the worst we have ever come across treated us like we were wasting her time never acknowledged my bro kept saying "Well I wasnt there so I dont know what happened". I told her what happened&how concerned we were her attitude was What do you want me to do about it. I asked if our dogs fat lump had somethin to do w/what happened she laughed like I was an idiot said "um no"-seen her for less than 10 min. Went to pay it was $165!! for what? to be treated like idiots¬ taken seriously there was no compassion we were concerned for our dog b/c she is gettin old.If you care about your pet dont take them here. I sent a complaint&got an email sayin someone was lookin into this&will get back to me that was Sep17-I replied Sep25 looking for a follow up its Oct1&haven't heard anything. RID: 37561

2/14/12   5     5     5     5   I thought everyone did such a great job of taking care of my baby girl and me! She can be handful and a stress case and so can I! I thought they handled us both very well! I keep reading comments and they all sound the same...about the money. But if no body paid them...they wouldn't be open.then who would be there to save my dog in the middle of the night?? RID: 32231

Click to report rating    1/22/12   5     5     5     4   We brought our dog in for surgery. We are from out of town. After reading the previous comments we were a bit apprehensive. We were pleasantly surprised. The staff was nothing but friendly and accommodating. They even changed our appointment time at the last minute. The price was a bit high but having a surgeon that is the best in his field means our dog will have a shorter recovery time and a healthy pain free life. This far outweighs the cost to us. Thank you Dr. Fowler and all the staff for taking such good care of our beloved Tetsa! RID: 31711
Click to report rating    1/5/12   4     5     2     1   I found the Staff to be extremely friendly but the price was atrocious. I had to pay over $600 for them to treat my cat with an IV overnight, and an examination. They made me pay $800 upfront (before they would even treat my pet) and they are lucky that I have two debit cards because otherwise my cat wouldnt have been treated. As it stands I had to use half of my mortgage payment to pay for her treatment because my regular card was already maxed out for her vet appointment earlier in the day. This is a very top notch vet clinic but their clients are ripped off to the extreme to recieve the treatment of the pets. They care for your pet very well but I think that their main motivator is MONEY. If you want to spend a bunch of money before your pet is even treated bring them here! RID: 30309
Click to report rating    12/28/11   5     5     5     5   I thought Guardian was excellent! I have no idea why some reviewers say they're so expensive? I thought they were VERY reasonable-especially compared to my vet clinic!! They have state of the art equipment and very knowledgeable staff. We both felt very comfortable with the care and communication we received. We ended up having to put our dog down and our vet actually cried with us. I guess it comes down to how fast and how accurate you want a diagnosis. We would definately come here again-we want to give our pets the best care. RID: 30110
12/17/11   1     1     1     1   Expensive, slow, grumpy and ridiculously overstafffed with encompetence..After an hour of waiting with my border, who needed stiches to close aq chest wound (flap of skinm two layers of stiches, anesthetic, antibiotics, pain meds) i finally walked out and drove to 40 minutes to a country vet who fixed my dog in under an hour and charged me 380.00..Guardian's cost? "we can't say for sure, but it's a minimum 600..may go as high as 1200"..when they told me that, anbd I'm sitting there watching all the people, floating, doing nothing, and this grumpy little famle vet is rattling prices, that was that..pet care at its worst....don't go..google vets, there's lots in surroundiong twons, 20-30 mins away..and they will give you far bettter service..inter@telus.net if you want details on guardian RID: 29917
10/2/11   1     1     1     1   Horrible horrible horrible. Yes, they have a nice facility but that is an insignificant aspect when looking at the rest of the veterinary hospital as a whole. The staff, from reception, to health techs, to health tech assistants are extremely rude. I was also not impressed with the skill wise of the employees. My dad used to be a veterinarian so I am pretty familiar with what to look for in a good surgery or treatment...and my dog for sure did not receive one. Friends of mine have had the same bad experience at this place. Do not be fooled by the looks of the building. If you want your animal to get quality service at a fair price go to another Edmonton veterinary hospital. Plenty out there better than this one. RID: 28028
9/26/11   2     3     1     1   Our dog was brought in in a bad state and they told us she required immediate surgery, which she did. They acted like she was being rushed in right then and there so we left, asking that we'd be called when she was out since it was risky. This was at 8pm. We were called again at 830am as they needed to know our wishes since out dog was crashing. We found out that they did not preform the surgery at all, instead waited 12 hours to do anything but give her fluids. Our dog ended up dying. Granted, this may have been the outcome anyway and I realize they were busy, but if you are an Emergency center you should be able to handle emergency cases. We'll never know. Our dog hates the vet and it pains us to know that her last 12 hours were spent there. We would have rather had her comfortable at home if they were going to do nothing, and we wouldn't have been charged so high a fee for having her there over 12 hours. Wouldn't use them again unless last resort, and then I'd be awfully weary. RID: 27891
8/25/11   5     5     2     3   Our Jack Russell Terrier got into something nasty....resulting in a badly infected toe. We were pleased with the compassionate care received at this vet clinic. The only bad thing was that we were the only ones there ans had to wait an hour to be seen....but, we had been warned that the Dr. was attending to some very serious cases in the back part of the facility. I would definitely go here again. RID: 27160
Click to report rating    8/23/11   5     5     5     4   Our Rotty had surg on the 13 Aug for a Lipoma under his front shoulder, I was quite impressed with the care my dog received as well the surgery performed on him. RID: 27129
8/23/11   2     2     2     1   We have been trying, unsuccessfully, for 4 months to get a response from the cardiac specialist that is currently working out of this clinic. When our dog had two syncopes on Saturday and I phoned, the person who answered the phone #1 did not know what I was talking about; #2 did not recognize how upset I was; and #3 told me that the Vet would be in on Tuesday and would call us. I "thanked" her and told her that would be fine and I sincerely hoped that my dog did not die in the mean time. We have been the ones doing the halters, sending the information off to the U.S. for analysis and all we really wanted was to get the medications correct as our Vet does not feel comfortable in the cardiac area and needs some guidance. What is the point in having a Board Certified Cardiologist in Edmonton if we can't get any service. It is now Tuesday and our dog is still alive and currently wearing a halter and waiting for the Vet to call. Let's see how long it is going to take. RID: 27119
