Click to report rating    10/6/23   5     5     5     5   We were in search to find a vet or clinic to do some dental work. We are so pleased we chose Dr. Simk, even though it required a 35-minute drive for us! Dr. Simk is down to earth and realistic in her advice, and we were very pleased with the dental work Dr. Simk did. The cost was fair and reasonable, and the office staff was super helpful and professional. I've had many pets and seen many vets and highly recommend this clinic to anyone in the neighborhood. Keep the good work going. RID: 70861
Click to report rating    12/18/18   5     5     5     5   Dr Mandy Simk is a patient and truly compassionate vet. I have had the pleasure of helping out in her clinic over several months and saw for myself how caring and dedicated she is. She puts the animal and the owner first, not her own bottom line. I trust her with my animals because of what I have seen. I highly recommend her! RID: 67131

Click to report rating    9/7/17   5     5     5     5   This was our first visit today for our 8 year old dog Bruno. Our previous vet retired. Punctual, courteous staff. Dr. Mandy was truly excellent - I did not feel rushed and she explained everything in layman terms. Our dog has never had such a thorough exam -- we wanted an introductory baseline exam. Very impressed and glad our dog has been accepted into their practice and Bruno too was happy to be with awesome people. The receptionist's approach was calm and greeted us in a professional, polite manner. Easy to find parking as clinic is in big Plaza. RID: 64605
Click to report rating    6/6/17   5     5     5     5   We always go to Parkgate for our pet care needs.Dr Mandy is an awesome vet,our dog Jack has a personal bonding with Dr Mandy.Couple of days ago we have to take Jack to Parkgate for emergency because he was bitten by another dog, although they were busy but he was looked after by Mandy in a very professional way.The wound was repaired rightaway.Dr Mandy gave a follow up call the very next day, just to enquire about the well being of Jack. What a wonderful Vet and I would recommend Parkgate to everybody. Click to report rating    3/31/17   1     3     3     3   If you have a bird under no circumstances should you take it here. The vet we saw had little to no bird knowledge, couldn't even identify what type of bird we had. We went in for a wing, nail and beak trim and she was completely unable to hold or contain our bird. The beak trim went ok but the nail and wing trims were an absolute disaster. By the time we left Tucker was bleeding and missing half of one of his wings. She cut off his primary, secondary and a large chunk of his covert feathers. This resulted in him becoming extremely depressed, he just sat with us or on the floor of his cage not doing a thing, alarming odd for an extremely active bird. His food, water and bed had to be moved to the bottom of his cage so he could access them. RID: 63209

4/3/16   5     5     5     5   This is an extremely convenient and caring vet clinic. I have found the doctor Mandy Simk and her staff to be attentive, thoughtful and resourceful when it comes to treating my two cats. For a smaller clinic they offer a wide range of services as well as products. They also offer a convenient pet boarding option and are very willing to accommodate any special needs your pet has. Cannot recommend this vet highly enough. RID: 60208

10/27/15   5     5     5     5   I had a wonderful experience at this facility.I brought in my cat here as I feared she had a blockage and my regular Vet refused to see her without appointment.I called Parkgate and although they had a busy schedule but did their best to fit my cat into schedule.Dr Mandy was wonderful, gentle and kind to my 14 yr old shadow, who was having hematuria, scared, never leaves home and does not go to the vet.She explained everything in detail to me and gave me the options of what steps I could take next.Dr Mandy called me next day to check on Shadow and to explain urology results. She was very patient and took time to explain so that I can fully understand.Dr Mandy is highly knowledgeable, skilled and had wonderful interpersonal skills & a great demeanor with shadow.I highly recommend this hospital to anyone who is looking for a good facility and optimal care for their pets.Their prices are reasonable & they only do the necessary diagnostic tests.I am really thankful to Dr Mandy and her staff.  10/24/15   5     5     5     5   I have been to this hospital for many years and would only entrust this hospital for my pets needs.Dr Mandy and the staff are great I feel like they are a part of my extended family.Recently one of my black Russian terriers had to undergo surgery to remove a lump on his tail and I know that my dog was cared for with the best care possibe. Whenever I have any concerns,I am always able to get my answers quickly and never feel rushed or ignored. That being said whenever I am worried about my two dogs and a cat this is the place I look forward to mitigate my concerns or worries. These excellent qualities makes this hospital unique in dealing with their clients and the patients.I am feeling so blessed that I have such a talented vet to take care of my pets.I am really thankful to Dr Mandy and the staff at Parkgate for doing such a wonderful job,and would highly recommend them for your pets too.  9/11/15   5     5     5     5   Dr. Simk and all of the staff at Park Gate are absolutely amazing. It feels more like you are entering a home than a clinic. Well, a very organized and sanitized home! One of my cats is highly reactive but responds so well to all of the staff and Dr. Simk which is a big deal since she is usually very shy when first meeting/greeting someone. She adores Dr. Simk even though a physical check-up is not much fun so that's saying a lot. I always have lots of questions and Dr. Simk always takes the time to answer them all with great thought. I never feel rushed. Ocassionally we have had to wait a bit for our appointment time but the staff is so friendly and the waiting area so pleasant that it is never really an issue. Plus I always know we are waiting because some poor animal had a health emergency. Dr. Simk also always provides me with more than one option when it comes to treatment, etc. which is much appreciated. I really can't say enough wonderful things about Park Gate. RID: 58354
Click to report rating    12/31/14   1     2     2     1   We recently took our dog into the Parkgate Hospital (Hospital?) and found it substandard in the quality and service we got. Due to the poor quality of their work in doing an xray and lack of followup, we waited almost a month before we knew our dog is dying from bone cancer. We assumed we could trust them but they continued to renew our drug prescriptions in the interim despite knowing the diagnosis. I had to force the diagnosis from the Vet by sheer cross examination as she was unable to communicate to us or had no empathy to our situation. I don't know which as English is not her first language. In the end, she was hopeless in explaining to us and immediately referred us to the REAL animal hospital in Burnaby and we got the obvious diagnosis. We wasted four weeks and $1,000 dollars for no reason. I will never return there and recommend everyone to look elsewhere. Our young happy family dog is important and she showed no empathy to us or her. Why be a vet if you don't care? RID: 55257
Click to report rating    12/22/14   1     2     2     1   I took my Yorkie to this clinic since she was a puppy, just for regular check ups. 7 months ago she was coughing, lethargic and loosing weight. The vet at the clinic diagnosed her with Megaesophagus just after touching her esophagus. She did a X-ray and a blood test and confirmed the diagnostic. Now, after 7 months of my puppy getting better and worse again, more visits to the clinic and extra tests, the vet keeps telling us it is the same problem. We asked for all her tests results and we were surprised that they did not mentioned Megaesophagus and they say clearly that there is some issue on her liver. The vet NEVER mentioned that. We took her to a different vet and showed him all her tests. He said right away that there is something wrong on the liver. He repeated the tests and it was confirmed a liver shunt. The poor dog is suffering for 7 months, being treated for a disease she did not have. The vet at parkgate showed little knowledge and I would never recommend them. RID: 55133
Click to report rating    10/6/14   1     3     3     3   Have never actually been to this clinic except to buy food on occasion. Can't get passed the rudeness of reception so have been discouraged from following up with an appointment for my animal every time. RID: 53932
11/20/12   1     1     1     1   A few years ago our outdoor duck was attacked by a raccoon and found alive but extremely injured at 6am. I called around and Park Gate said their doctor was willing to come in early to meet us. We knew that euthanasia was the only option and just wanted his suffering to end as soon as possible. Dr Royle had to give him 3 injections of sedation and he still wasnt quiet and then used a mask and gas to try to sedate him so they could euthanize and even then i could smell the gas in the air and was getting light headed while the mask was on my poor dewey's face. I ended up taking a piece of gauze from their cupboard and putting it into the mask where the gas was leaking while dr royal and her staff member went to heat up their coffee's! After all this they also called multiples time during that day to remind us to come pick up his body or pay the cremation fee by the end of the day! RUDE DISRESPECTFUL AND INCOMPITANT PEOPLE! RID: 38602
Click to report rating    7/9/12   5     5     5     4   We initially went to Dr. Royle for a second opinion after becoming suspicious about the care and diagnosis at AAH of our beloved 10 year old golden retriever. After getting such a run around at the other vet, Parkgate was great, efficient and to the point. We would have saved ourselves $1500 and our dog alot of suffering by going there first. Dr. Royle ended by having to put our dog to sleep - but she did so in a very professional manner with us there. I have also seen her put my sister's cat to sleep when it needed to be, again very professional and kind as my sister was extremely distraught at saying good bye to her pet. We have a 14 month old golden pup now that gets all his vet care from Dr. Royle, she has already shown us her great care with him as we dealt with digestive challenges early on...she got it all sorted out and he is a happy, healthy dog! It's a comfort to feel we have a vet who honestly cares about the animal and not just the $. RID: 35538
Click to report rating    8/23/11   1     4     5     1   I had to say goodbye to my kittie... he had a long history of kidney disease and chronic renal failure and was recently going from litter box to water bowl constantly. In his last days he started throwing up water - his thirst was insatiable and I couldn't bear to see him suffering. He was 16 and I knew this disease was not reversible. I was very distressed by Dr Royle's attitude and the way she handled my cat in his last moments. She did not explain what she was doing - she started to assess him, squeezing him while the assistant restrained him. I found this very distressing and asked why she was doing this. She got angry and said she couldn't 'put him down' without a reason. She injected the sedation without telling me then covered him up. I wanted to hold him as it happened and it was all over before I knew what was going on. I said goodbye to my other kittie at Atlas in Vancouver where we both received very kind and respectful care. Shame on you Dr Royle. RID: 27115
