The management needs to improve alot, overcharge especially at night and don't seem to care about turning you away if cannot afford it. Had a diabetic cat that was crashing and they demanded an arm and a leg.

A card was received for my dog's passing from Boundary Bay to my surprise. She was put on meds by a BB cardiologist for 2 weeks when she started having difficulties. I was told that the cardiologist she saw was on vacation and that she couldn't see the one who was in without going through emergency, that concerns could not be reviewed and that I could not communicate with them. Further, she would only see this cardiologist if deemed appropriate in emergency while the one she saw was away for 2 weeks. She needed follow up from a cardiologist in relation to her cardiology meds that had just been introduced. I told the staff that I did not think she would live for 2 weeks and she did not. My heart broke being in the medical field as I work with patients and families who are facing similar situations and opt to help rather than add stress. On top of this, Polly said that the cardiologist in was once "the only cardiologist in BC" with facts irrelevant to the issue raised.

This place is AWEFUL!! Don’t waste your time or money here. They are a scam! The staff are useless, they over charge you and refuse to correct it. They don’t have a clue about what’s going on. We brought our dog here for a tplo surgery and the vet completely botched it. So bad that he never healed right and had to have a second surgery because the plate was too big and installed incorrectly. He was better off before the surgeries. They permanently damaged my sweet dog for over $10,000! This place is worst then the McDonald’s of the fast food industry. They don’t care for animals here they butcher them.

This place use to be great, 5 years ago. Now it’s just complete incompetence. Can’t even answer basic questions. My dog went in with what I thought was a stroke. Turned out to be vertigo. She had an middle ear infection confirmed via MRI which needed a myringotomy. Sent home with month worth of meds. Her ear just progressively got worse+ no improvement ever! I Voiced my concern over a two week period starting on day 4 by phone and email numerous times. There should have been a bit of visual improvement, not a Festering infection growing. On day 14 she had puss oozing out of her ear and flying out when she’d shake her head. Called again the girl said she asked the whole clinic no one knew if this was normal! Told Id Have Wait speak to neurologist who did the surgery the next day. He tells me to go to my vet as he’s not an ear specialist ,say what? So who did the ear surgery Then?! in the midst of filing a complaint to the CVBC with the full support of my Vet. Front end staff are good.

Brought our dog in for tplo, she had one leg done at another vet that used a smaller plate and removed meniscus to avoid future problems with it and that leg is great. This was her other leg and needed the same surgery, boundary used a larger plate that you can feel under skin unlike the other and left in the meniscus. The dog is still toe touching and needs another surgery. During our dogs time there the vet mentioned about that other knee, the one that was just done, saying it didn't feel normal and had to re explain that it was just done weeks earlier. Clearly one hand didn't know what the other was doing and not focused on the task looking at other things. That vet is no longer there to answer for this and boundary is a now a training hospital, will never go back not satisfied by service. Failing grade and our dogs lost.

Terrible. So sad because the building is nice and the equipment seems up to date. Talked to me like a moron and I have had animals for many years and work in human health care. Wouldn't let me stay with my dog for the exam and didn't want to show me the ultrasound and discuss it. An owner came in with an elderly dying dog and wouldn't let owner go in with dog to pay respects and put owner in a room alone. Terrible.

Met with Dr. Charney after regular vet found lung tumour in our golden. Wish I had read these reviews first...she was uncaring and unprofessional. Repeated tests that had already been done by vet advising that they had better equipment and radiologists, but again inconclusive. When we questioned this she was defensive and actually lied to us. She totally missed our dogs enlarged lymph nodes - not sure she actually did the exam she charged for - as this was hard to miss. Definitely seems more concerned with fees than with genuine care and treatment of animals and helping find the right solution on an individualized basis. Dealing with cancer is such a difficult time for the animal and the pet owner - and we deserve better than this. I recommend you go elsewhere.

Trust these guys with all my pets. Yes it is expensive. And no they can not save every animal. But they are compassionate, caring educated vets that are willing to go that extra mile.

After our 8 month old pup received incorrect diagnosis and treatment form the age of months from another local vet. we thought to try this facility as they were SPECIALIZED. I will agree I have never paid 800.00 for tests before but if it remedied the problem I was all for it. Dr E. Nielsen was very sure she could do what was needed if the tests were done. Well the results are after the first treatment no change, she said she had to try another drug that needed to be brought in from out of country, this made our dog very sick which worsened as it went on. we tried to contact her for advice but although she was in the building she would not take our call. we left a message for her to call as soon as possible and went to another local vet for help. after 5 days she still has not returned our call so we called again to be told she is still not in and only works tues-thurs and we will have to try to call her during those days and when she is in the office. Stay away from this place!

I have been to this vet for the on care of my animal who is very sick still. I have no answers yet. 10,000 later and still my animal continues to suffer. You ask why continue to go here if it is so bad. I don't like to drag my animal from place to place and this is were supposedly the specialist are. I am going to be truthful here. The customer service is horrible. You find the odd 1-2 that are very compassionate. I find you constantly have to remind the DR/Specialist every week for the last 5 months what is happening with your animal and make suggestions. My animal was very sick and I left a message on a Friday morning before a long weekend as I knew they would be closed. I got no return phone call. Also, after a lengthy time here they still have not sent my records to the correct vet. Wow! I am writing this and my animal is still very sick and no return call from last week after the holiday. I do not recommend this place. If you have a vet who is good stick with them.

Dr.Gordon is truly a miracle-worker. Our pug developed a limp which rapidly progressed to complete loss of hind legs and bowels. We received the devastating news that Lola had Invertebral Disc Disease, and 90% of her spinal cord was already crushed. The chances of her being able to walk again were very slim. We went ahead with the $7000+ surgery. Dr.Gordon thoroughly updated us every 6 hours for 2 days post op. He spent 20 minutes with us thoroughly explaining her post surgery care, including physio, massages and pain management, and if she regained her ability to walk, it would probably be in 3 months. At her 1 month post op appointment, lola WALKED into boundary bay. Dr.Gordon and the staff were stunned, none of us expected her to walk again, let alone 1 month later. I will be indebted forever to Dr.Gordon, an absolutely exceptional vet and human being. The nurses were also amazing, and provided phenomenal quality of care. Nothing but praise for Boundary Bay. Thank you so much!

I find this place to be very dis-organized. Dr's seem compassionate however; do not follow through. You find yourself repeating yourself for the care of your love one and having to make suggestions. I think more time is needed to insure you follow through and be punctual considering how much you are paying to take your animal here. I don't like that you have to call them back rather then them call you with updates. Customer service is lacking here. I recommend handling the business you have rather than spreading yourself to thin and the dr's that work here.

The front desk staff were nice, and they were on time, but overall, I feel cheated. Our cat was referred there for an ultrasound. Was told the Radiologist would come and discuss results with me. Never got to speak to the radiologist at all. somebody else came and spoke fast about needing/recommending further tests. We knew something was wrong and well, you do what have to for them, right? $1,200 later ($400 for the ultrasound and another $800 for god-knows-what), and it is "inconclusive" . My vet sees their report and responds "Obviously the radiologist is right out of school. sorry, I wouldn't have sent you there if I had known". Long story short: another ultrasound with a qualified radiologist and we have a diagnosis and a treatment plan. Hopefully it is correct, but an $800 upsell on an ultrasound where you can't see anything tells me you guys are just in it for the $$. At least come and talk to your customers!

If your vet sends you here, ask for referral somewhere else! Maybe find a new vet! We spent over $10,000 here, first with Dr. Charney, then with one of the surgeons she works with. The outcome? Watching our poor dog suffer for weeks, ooze form an infected surgery wound and die with no acknowledgement from anyone that they did anything wrong. Dr. Charney was never available when we called, and the surgeon didn't return our calls. I don't know how these people live with themselves!

Boundary Bay is the most AMAZING clinic I have ever worked with! Dr Hutchinson and his staff are kind, caring and the most supportive staff I have had the pleasure of connecting with. I will forever be thankful for everything they have done for my toy poodle. During this very difficult time, they have remained encouraging and supportive. I love Dr Hutchinson and would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend him or his colleagues to work with your pet if you are in need:) They have shown nothing but the best to my pet and family and I am so grateful I was referred to this clinic. This Specialty hospital and emergency clinic provide nothing but the best and top of the line support. Every person who works at one of these two clinics (emergency and specialty hospital) cares for each pet they come in to contact with-genuinely. From the bottom of my heart...thank you Boundary Bay for all you have done for my pet and every other animal who comes into your clinic.

We recently visited BB hospital for a consult and further investigative work for our dog with cancer with Dr Charney, and subsequent testing done. Follow-up requests to Dr Charney for written estimates were met with all sorts of excuses for NOT supplying a complete written chemo plan. Very unprofessional..Money seems to dictate over respect and caring for your animal. DO NOT RECOMMEND! Try Can West ...

Last year I brought my dog in for an oncology consult with Dr. Charney.I was very emotional and decided to do chemotherapy-recommended as a good choice for promoting quality of life in the long term&was the only affordabletreatment option.Since I was there,I opted to have the treatment done the same day while I waited.I requested aftercare information which they told me they would email to me the same day.I called several times during the week. After about two days my dog was not herself-off her food/diarrhea. I called AGAIN&was told Dr.Charney was very busy&she'd send the info soon.As the week went on my dog was in horrible shape-vomiting/diarrhea,no appetite/lethargic etc.I took to vet for fluids&back to theER.A week after the treatment, mydog was so miserable I took her to theER again. They decided to keep her overnight. In AM(after being accused by Dr.of refusing to pay)I learned that she had gone septic&was dying. We went tosay goodbye. The email was sent night before.UNPROFESSIONAL!

Well run surgery hospital. The staff were excellent and Dr Hutchinson, the surgeon was extremely thorough in his explanations, alternatives and visual descriptions of what he would do. Follow up was very good. Highly recommend this specialized hospital for animals.

MY experience with Dr.Hutchinson and his staff has been exceptional. When I left my eight week old Boston Terrier puppy with them for a surgical repair to her fractured left rear leg, it was as if a weight had been lifted from my shoulders. When I arrived I was frightened and a little hopeless. After my evaluation with the Dr. and staff, I felt relieved and hopefull. Now Lexi is home and doing well. She will, of course, need follow up care but her progress seems amazing. The people at this clinic are a breed apart. The words that come to mind are; exceptional, gifted, professional, and caring. I would recommend them to anyone in need of cutting edge medical care.

I found Sarah Charney to be very professional and helpful as much as is possible with a dog who has cancer. She is the only canine oncologist that I know of in BC and we are lucky to have her as a resource for our pets. Her advice was excellent. I think earlier negative comments were not fair in that they seem emotionally distorted over the loss of a loved pet. Sarah Charney is very busy, but she gives you her full attention when you are in consultation with her. Her support staff was excellent and very caring.

In my sad view, Dr.Sarah Charney, a veterinarian who specializes in oncology, is an uncaring and incompetent caregiver. My beloved animal companion endured seven chemotherapy "treatments", none of which I was permitted to accompany her for (despite my pleadings), only to have her cancer return just 1 month after the treatments were "complete." This was a terrible shock as my local veterinarians told me we had caught the cancer very early, and that a 5-year survival rate was the norm. Dr.Charney's research showed that chemo treatments had a strong efficacy rate that resulted in patients often surviving 3X the norm. Despite my baby's incredible courage, she lost her battle on July 23rd, less than 3 months following treament. Dr. Charney was told the cancer had returned, but I heard not one word from her. She seemed more concerned with covering her own interests than she ever was with treating my girl. I'm wondering if the chemo was even given.. no whisker loss, no witness.I'm devastated.
