Nick Shaw neglected to send our cats'biopsy to histology, therefore the opportunity to diagnose his condition was lost, resulting in a delay of a correct diagnosis by another veterinarian which came too late to save him.

We took our pug in on January 1, 2015 because she seemed to be in some pain. Over $5,000.00 later she has still be diagnosed in what is wrong. They asked us to take her to another pet hospital to see if they could track it down. That is so far another $2,500.00. Looking at the bill it looks like they have charged us double each day of her stay. I will make sure that I let everyone that I know to stay away from this clinic. All they want to do is make up tests and procedures for them to perform to pad the bill up higher and higher. I am going to report them to the College of Veterinarians
of British Columbia.

This veterinary Hospital treated our cat and us like gold. Our cat needed surgery to repair a bone in her leg which had multiple fractures. All of the staff were very helpful and informed on our situation. Dr Shaw and the other Veteranarians that I spoke with took their time and energy to counsel us our decision surrounding our pet. I really feel like the care we were given was of the best quality and we will be forever thankful.

Do not take your animal to this hospital. I truly believe they do not have your pets best interest at heart only want the money. We were told at pre-op for spay that my dog's liver test came back extremely high levels. We did several more tests, blood clotting, food/blood test to she how she digests, ultrasound for a liver shunt, then a second opinion on the ultrasound because Dr. Shaw couldn't confirm. Told after all these tests that they needed to do a liver biopsy and this will give us the diagnosis. He said if it wasn't the liver shunt then it had to be this liver disease (micro visia displashia?). After surgery and several tests, they sent me an email (no phone call) to tell me that the tests were unconclusive and to take her back for more tests in 6 months? WHAT!!! This after spending over $2000! I was so worried about my dog and kept telling them she had NO symptoms over and over again. Rip off artists. Stay away. I will not return and I will tell everyone I know!

Stay away from that clinic on Stelly's Xrd. Agreed to do a complete blood and urine test to see where kidney disease was at as my cat is 16. Never got results when they said I would. Kept phoning to talk to the vet to get results. Same answer every time: "the Dr just went in with a patient. She will call you in 20 minutes." Heard that song about 4 times and never got results until I got pissed off and said I kept being told 20 minutes and yet nobody was phoning me back. The vet was cold when she finally called. Then she requested another urine test which she said was necessary for her to give a complete assessment. Why she didn't tell me that the day I had my cat in is a mystery... gave them another $60.00 after spending already $500.00 and getting nowhere. Never got results of that test. So I switched clinics. I should mention too that the girls at the front desk were rude and insinuated i was a thief when they thought I was leaving without paying!

They tried to rip me off and the vet was a nightmare. The vet techs were better than the vet.

They tried to overcharge me three times in one day - the day I had my cat spayed. Their vet techs are very good, but my vet was terrible and the owner was arrogant and unrepentant when I made a complaint.

They are only interested in getting the maximum amount of money out of you and play on your emotions to get it. DON'T use them!

Brought our lap dog here after it got in the garbage and ate some fish. Poor thing was so sick we rushed him down to the vet to be evacuated. Was told that he will need $800.00 worth of diagnosis work done 1st. So ok did that. Then we we told he will need a blood transfusion and will start at $2500. However will probably run much higher The vet told my doughter if we didn't pay the dog would would be dead in 24 hours. My poor kid went crazy when I told her I think the vet is out of control and trying to take advantage of us we took the dog home. He threw up the fish and was on the mend almost immediately after. Since then I have heard of many similar horror stories. From this outfit. My wife called the owner the next day seem to show some regret but did not follow up after they said they would. Almighty dollar is what these folks are all about.

The worst experience ever! I had a rabbit that was supposed to go for surgery but never had it because they deemed another emergency was more important. Then they charged me for it anyhow - I highly recommend not to bring your beloved pets there.

Nickel and dime you to death. Charge for a 'health assessment,' which involves you filling out a questionaire, at every appointment. This gets ridiculous when require weekly chech ins following surgery and continually charge for this assessment in addition to your appointment. We've also found that face time with the vet is extremely limited. Service is not too bad, but billing practices are out of control.

In my experience, profit is the priority over care with Shaw Pet Hospitals. I understand the "business of business", but also believe that dedicated animal guardians are being exploited by their belief that higher prices (and Shaw prices are higher than average) equal higher quality care -- and I'm not at all sure that is the case.. which I say with the deepest sadness

Wonderful experience at reception and with Dr Shaw. Everything explained in a way I an understand. I am very confident my cat is receiving the best treatment. Post appointment follow-up has been great - some of the issues pertaining to an older cat were pointed out and options given. No pressure at all. I would recommend this practice.

Thank you for saving my kittens life! He had the best care at your hospital and the staff were so kind to me and to my cat. The doctors were very informative and they called me every day to give me an update about my pet's progress.

I have been taking my dog to shaw pet hospitals in Central Saanich and in fairfield (the Hollywood Pet Hospital) since she was a puppy almost 10 years ago. They fixed her broken leg and saved her life when she had hemolitic anemia. They are the best vet practice in Victoria by far and I tell all my friends about them.

This is a great vet's hospital. The front end staff are out of this world fantastic. There are three or four vets on staff and all are great and very knowledgeable. They have an expert there on animal behaviour and food. The owner, Nick Shaw is fantastic and has treated all my pets. They need more room in the hospital area but are expanding. When things add up and get too expensive they give me a break on little things which helps. Small and large animals, boarding, dental, 24/7 monitoring by vet specialist assistants, adoption site, they really really love animals.

This vet practice is amazing. At all locations too. I have been there numerous times. The doctors are very caring and fully explain everything they are going to do. The staff at the front desk are very helpful and nice. I enjoy taking my pets to the vets because of Shaw Pet hospitals.

I brought my cat to this Vet because she was scratching her skin raw and was told that they didn't know what was wrong with her and that she likely had this rare feline idiopathic disease and would require expensive medication for the rest of her life. They also wanted to run all these expensive tests on her. It turned out to be a food allergy!!! I'm glad I didn't shell out loads of money and give my pet unnecessary medications. I never returned!!

I have unfortunately had extensive experience with Shaw Pet Hospitals, and am very sad to say that I wish their vigilance with their billing practices consistently matched the veterinary care provided to my animal companions. I was aware that Shaw Pet Hospitals charged significantly more for their services, and was only too happy to pay for such as I mistakenly (and desperately) hoped the inflated fees would result in enhanced care for my animal family. There are some kind people employed by this company to be sure, but... the problem is, Shaw Pet Hospitals as a whole operates as more of a company than a grouping of true animal hospitals. I was a fool to believe, a fool to trust in them. I wish (I wish, I wish) I could change the devastating outcome of my misplaced faith. To my fellow animal lovers, please do your research and trust your own hearts and instincts. Wishing you and your animla family members only the very best of everything..

This vet convinced my sister her dog needed to have ear surgery for aural hemotomas, and then, when the surgery was ineffective and she asked them to fix it, they said it was just 'cosmetic surgery,' and sarcastically said to the dog "okay, time for your cosmetic surgery." of course all this after they took nearly 2000 bucks from her. I was there to witness this unprofessional, money-grubbing incident. Then recently, another friend tried to get her dog's prescription renewed there, but the clinic vindictively refused to fill it because she was moving, and thus, switching clinics. Shaw pet hospitals are in it for the money. If you want to be tricked into wasting money on unnecessary procedures, or be guilted into doing things you can't afford that aren't even necessary for the pet's basic health (according to other vets), then shaw are the ****s for you.
