Dr. Duncan Peters was hired to perform a pre-purchase vet exam on a hunter/jumper horse. However, he neglected to mention that the seller had informed him that this horse had been given the pain medication bute prior to the vet exam. Although he took x-rays of the horse, that I later learned show problematic bone changes, Dr. Peters did not mention these issues at the time of the exam. Instead he concluded there was no medical reason not to buy the horse. Surprisingly, this horse was lame immediately upon arrival at my barn. After consulting several trusted vets, I learned the x-rays Dr. Peters took show career ending issues. If Dr. Peters has waited until the pain medication had worn off, as any competent vet would do, he would have seen this horse was never sound and not serviceable as a hunter/jumper.
