Diagnostics aren’t timely enough and they don’t act in an emergency situation and the triage that was required to assess the increasing symptoms of vomiting on Tuesday to discomfort, drooling and depression 24 hours later Wednesday morning warranted far more than ANOTHER 30 hours waiting it out in their clinic on fluids. (He was monitored by web cam and there is no after hours emergency as his profile suggests). I should have been referred out for emergency diagnostics. But by the time their diagnostic capabilities showed evidence of a blockage/torsion 48 hours after first arriving at this clinic to seek help (painfully waiting for results for blood to come back from Vancouver, waiting to ship him to another vet for ultrasound in Courtenay-which should have been done Wednesday morning, if not Tuesday, NOT THURSDAY LATE MORNING), surgery was just an insult to my poor dog’s injury and he died of septic shock. In fact he was already septic at surgery, shown by the histology report after

Took our 15 year old dog here with a cough and they told us his heart and lungs were good and he was in great shape and could live another five years. They tried various things over 2 months to cure his cough to the tune of several hundred dollars with no results. Finally we had enough and went to the Van Isle clinic for a second opinion. They properly diagnosed him in 30 mins with congestive heart failure and fluid in his lungs (apparently common for his breed) and gave us medication that cured his cough in a couple days. Unfortunately his kidneys gave out and he had to be put down. Had we not wasted our time and money here we probably could have had a couple more years with him. Their equipment is outdated and they don't even have digital X-Rays. Don't risk your pets health here.

Dr. Champion and staff have been so good to all our animals often going above and beyond to help my pets. Dr. Champion may not have the perfect bedside manner, but her heart is for the animals, and not their owners, always doing what is best for them at all times as well as offering alternatives and options, explaining everything. She accepts raw fed pets and doesn't push her ideas on you. I could not ask for a better vet. She has been mine for 10 years.

This vet is great! They are very kind, and Dr Champion is very good with our dog, who is quite ill with adison's disease. Carol helped us quite a bit, gave us everything we needed to know, and helped us through many late-night, early morning "crashes" my dog has gone through. She was also very gentle with my kittens when they needed their shots. AWESOME vet!!!

Dr. Champion has been nothing but great to me and my animals. She is straight forward, lays out the options, answers questions readily and accommodates raw feeding while providing thorough western medicine. Top notch.
