I'm hoping this will help others faced with tough decisions. VCA had fine facilities, were nice and responsive, but they don't get paid unless they sell you on treatment. In our case, our cat had lymphoma. My vet told me our cat had a week to live, and to think about when to put him down. We were too distraught to give up, and I took him to the cancer specialists at VCA. The cancer was pretty advanced. But they talked me into starting chemo anyway, saying he might go into remission and have a few more months with us. He died three days later in agony from the chemo. I wish I'd taken my vet's advice and given him a peaceful ending, instead of paying over $2000 to VCA for treatment that had little chance of working (and even if it had, would have put him through the same thing months later). I feel they took advantage of the situation and our pain. I should have paid attention to how expensive the sonogram tech's clothes were.

Brought dog in for weekend, emergency visit. Seen promptly by tech and veterinarian. Thorough assessment and flexible additional assessment and treatment options. Cost estimate provided upon request to help make decisions. Testing was completed with our financial concerns in mind. Very happy with the care and treatment of our pet. Seen prior at Caring Hands Animal Hospital, but they did not have the specialists available. This 24/7 hospital was recommended instead.

VCA SouthPaws is a good facility with 24 hour care - however, it is their care in which my diabetic cat declined and ultimately died, in the care of his primary vet - thank goodness. My review of this clinic is to hopefully save other pet parents the agony I went through. While their facility is great and they have many services, my case was an emergency that was mishandled and later caused the death of my cat. While they have a service for 24 hours, what you need to make sure is that if there is a critical case coming in, stop their sales pitch and ensure that the animal is properly cared for immediately - if VCA needs different policies in terms of signing a waiver, they need to implement these. In my case my cat was without fluids for over two hours while we waited for the doctor and listed to the estimates. I regret taking my baby there but I had no real choice given that he needed overnight care. Please be cautious when using this facility in an emergency.
