This place used to be the gold standard for vet care on Vancouver Island. But since the changeover of staff ( vet retiring) they have declined in care provided. All they care about now is money and getting out the door right at 5 o clock. They no longer provide After hours emergency care or monitored overnight care

This clinic is great. They are professional, efficient and very pleasant. My dog swallowed a bone on a Saturday of a long weekend. I called the clinic and they took the time to talk to me and suggested I come in for a visit. When I got to the clinic they fit me in right away and took x-rays. I would certainly recommend this clinic.

Since moving we have been using the services of the Mill Bay Clinic. On most occasions Dr Tomkins is our choice of Vet as she is more than capable with our large animals and equally adept with our other smaller pets. What we appreciate more though is not trying to up sell meds when other options are available, On the other hand we have experienced this with other members of the clinic. Dr Tomkins is very respectful of our animals and has shown such patience and kindness when we have had to make to difficult decision to put them down. Many thanks Clare

I had received a quote from another vet to have my chihuahua have his teeth cleaned and extracted for over $1250. Mill Bay estimated $650 for the whole procedure and the cost came out less. I then brought my other dog in for a check up and Dr Chris Forbs even took her in the back and did a minor cleaning on her teeth for the prioe of the check up. I also had to take a very old ill cat in when he wouldn't eat and they were very nice about having to put him down. All in all I think these guys are the best!!

I have put off writing this review for almost two years as I really dislike writing poor reviews. I would like to state first that we had a good experience with the actual Veterinarian. I had my dog in to be neutered awhile back and we had asked to have his nails clipped as well while he was in. When he came out of surgery and got him into the car we were appalled. He was covered in feces, urine, and his white paws were covered in blood. When we called the vet to ask what had happend the assistant had said he panicked and tore his nails on the wire cage when he woke from the anesthetic. However, when we looked at his nails we found that they had cut all of them well past the quick and had bled considerably. It was distressing having him given back to us in that condition, and it was extremely careless on the assistants part. Although the Veterinarian there is very good we will never go back again.

My staff rating is for the lack of friendliness from the front desk staff. This is the first and last interaction customers interact with. They lack genuine care; they need to make eye contact or perhaps just let you know they will be right with you; they ignore the customer at the desk; then as a customer you are left feeling you are a interruption to their 'real job.' I work with the public~ customer service and genuine care should be a given. I have previously (years actually) have taken our pets to Mill Bay Vet as it is local, the vets themselves are knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and caring. Clean and up to date facilities. However I am paying a customer and some engagement, and genuine care and enthusiasm at the front desk should be mandatory. This is unfortunately not a one time observation, not just one staff member at the desk, it seems contagious.I have put up with it in the past. Now with a new pet~ I have a approx a 10 year commitment and there are other Vets around.

I took my standard poodle in for hip xrays and she woke up the next morning in severe pain. She was gone for a long time and now i know why. Another DVM examined her and discovered her right back foot had been crushed and there is an injection site on the same leg. My dog was severely injured but instead of telling me the obviously injected her with pain meds to hide the injury. Once those meds wore off she could not walk; it is day two and she is on pain meds but her foot is VERY swollen and some of the skin between her toes has been torn away. Accidents happen and yes i would have been upset if they told me but the way they handles this is completely unacceptable. Shame on you dr Forbes!

Dr. Chris Forbes has litterly bent over backwards in helping me and my dog when we ran into difficulty because I was laid off - she saved my dogs life. The staff is fantastic, caring and extremely helpful. Every single one of them are tops in my book - and my dogs!!

Although I don't use this clinic for my small animals, I have used them for all our farm stock for some years now and am extremely pleased. In emergency situations someone has always arrived in less than 30 minutes. The large animal Vets are all skillful, knowledgable, willing to work WITH the owners, and generally show care and compassion when it is warranted. Couldn't ask more of any of them!
