I brought my healthy 14 yr old dog to PVSEC ER because she threw up 4 times was panting and shaking in discomfort. Because of COVID, I wasn't allowed in the building, About an hour later a tech tells me the vet wants to do a blood panel & ultrasound and needed an upfront payment of $800. I put it on a credit card & waited. FOUR HOURS LATER I'm still in the parking lot so I call to ask about my dog, but was told the tech attending to her wasn't available so they'd call back.?Finally I get a call from the Vet herself who told me she has gastroenteritis, her ultrasound showed nodules on her liver but nothing abnormal otherwise. Her bloodwork showed she has elevated liver values & Vet wants to hospitalize her and do an endoscope. I asked if they started an IV or fluids & they said no. SO, they took my dog, threw her in a crate for five hours, drew blood & did an ultrasound. What exactly would hospitalization accomplish? I can keep her in a crate and watch at home. So, I ask for her paperw

My 70 year-old mother has a dog who has been going to the north hills PSVEC FOR YEARS! She’s spent THOUSANDS of dollars there with MRI’s, bloodwork, appointments, etc. She had an appointment with Neurologist in March but, due to COVID, it’s been cancelled. Her dog, DORIE, has a bone missing in her head. It was present at birth. Without magnesium chloride and phenobarbitals, the dog WILL NOT SURVIVE. She called to get a script refilled last week. TODAY they called and said they will not refill her script because she hasn’t seen the neurologist in a year ...despite the fact that she’s been going to her regular vet for months and recently had bloodwork done for Neurologist to review. Now she cannot get to her regular doctor to get the scripts filled because it’s SATURDAY and the dog is out of meds tomorrow. I called the office where a manager screamed at me. My elderly mother just received a hang up call from PSVEC.So, I have a 70 year-old mother crying because her dog will not survive

We took cat into the ER, hoping that we could get her to Neurology faster. I don't suggest you take your pet to the ER unless it's a REAL, SUPER emergency - the ER doctors sound very busy and can be short (not in a mean way, they just have a lot of pets to see!). We brought her back early the next morning so that she could be seen by Dr. MacKillop (neurologist). He called me a few hours later and talked to me for awhile about my cat. He was very nice, made it sound like my cat was his only priority at the time, and gave me a load of details and options with my cat. He was very understanding of the financial aspect of a sick cat, as well. When I went to pick my cat up, Dr. Lisa (internal medicine) brought cat to the car. She also talked with me for awhile about my cat. Both doctors were very nice and the technicians and admin. assistants in the Neurology department were awesome! 100% worth the money and time to be seen there, if your pet needs care! LOVE these vets!!!!

I have very negative feelings toward PVSEC Animal Clinic. Over the past 10 years I have used them 3 times with two different dogs. Twice I left with the remains of my dog in a box and the other time feeling like I was robbed. It was when I brought my Wheaten in with neck problems that I was the most disappointed. They could not figure out the problem and recommended a MRI that was very expensive. Luckily I passed on this test and took my Wheaten to the Wexford Animal Clinic. They said that he had an infection in his neck that was common with Wheaten's and with some antibiotics he was cured. PVSEC vet followed up with us the next week and asked about our Wheaten and I told him that Wexford Animal Clinic found the problem and fix it. My surprise was that the Vet that called didn't have the intellectual curiosity to find out what the issue was. He knew they were not getting anymore money out of this time. Pray your dog doesn't get sick late and night or on a weekend.

We took our 6yo black lab who sustained an eye injury on a week-end to PVSEC south- Washington PA. They provided wonderful, prompt and reasonably priced care. The staff and vets obviously love animals. DH

Do not recommend. We took our 11 1/2 year old dog here for diagnostic testing for fluid in his belly. After about $800 worth of tests, they recommended surgery to remove a splenic mass. We were told the testing showed no other issues and he was a good candidate. We were elated that we would have more time with our dog and agreed to pay the outrageous $6k cost they wanted. We were told he would be ready to come home in two days. We left him only to receive a phone call a short while later informing us that upon starting surgery they determined he had one of the worst cases of metastatic disease the doctor had seen and there was nothing they could do. The doctor offered that she had no idea how this was not caught during testing. We had to make a decision to put him to sleep without getting to tell him goodbye. Two days later after asking for it twice, we got a bill for over $3100. I asked for some costs to be waived given what happened but they refused. They were dishonest also.

When my Police Dog became obviously not capable of performing his normal activities I began seeking Veterinary opinions. He was loosing control/back area. Sometimes 'yelping' pain. After PVSEC Neurosurgeon Dr. MIKOLOSKI reviewed x-rays, examined Leonidas, she gave us her opinion, in order, what problem was. MRI or spinal tap would be final 'for sure'. She was right, Wobblers disease' was the culprit. Dr.MIKOLOSKI was very thorough & explained everything in detail. She is now my precious retired Police Dog's Veterinarian. Thank You Dr. MIK, God Bless You.

Please make sure you ask, ask, ask, questions and that the surgeons discloses all procedures before surgery. My Bernese has had nothing but issues since her knee surgery. The surgeon did not verbally disclose that they were given her a spinal tap. I have talked to other vets and none of them understand why she had a spinal in addition to anesthesia. After surgery she quit eating had suffered severe weight loss due to meds, and urinary and fecal incontinence that we are still dealing with. We finally got her weight back up. Her current vet said there was no reason for a spinal and he felt that something happened during the procedure that damaged her nerves. The cost for all the additional checkups and medications is ridiculous. It should have never happened. It takes a long time for nerves to heal and we still have a long road ahead of us. I will never be back to PVSEC.

This was our second experience with PVSEC. We can not say enough good things about the care and expertise of their staff. Every person from the doctors to the receptionists were extremely kind and compassionate to us. Both our dogs needed surgery and both times they were all successful. Like me any medical care it's expensive. However if you protect your pet with insurance you will have a very minimal bill. It's no different to human care as to costs. If you broke your arm and went to the emergency room what do you think your bill would be? Or if you needed surgery what do you think your bill would be? I have read several reviews from pet owners who condem PVSEC for thinking about nothing but money. If your a pet owner do youself a huge favor and protect your pet with insurance. The monthly premium will be worth, which is not that expensive, will be much less than a bill in the thousands! This facility is first rate and better organized than many human hospitals.

We brought our dog for evavaluation as our regualar vet doesnt have the equipment to properly diagnose the problem she was having. We found the Vet Specalist ( Neurology ) and the assistants very sympathic and helpful. Fortunately my daughter who is an RN was with me and able to suggest alternatives to the very expensive MRI. The resulting X-rays showed that a badly ruputured disc was causing the lack of balance and inablity to use her hind legs. The Specialist said surgery had only a 50-50 chance of success, if that. Considerating her age, the arthritis already present, and cost of the surgery, we decided on euthanization. The Staff and Vet were very considerate and thoughtfull with the euthanization process. This facility is set up about the same that a similar facility in Jessup, Md is ( but no 7/24 service there though) that we used for Cranal Cruciate ligament surgery so I knew what to expect in terms of cost and extracting $$ for diagnostics. Still vet was super!

Cardiology Experience.
Referred by our vet- our dog w/ heart murmur, new cough, enlarged heart. We got appt quickly w/ Dr. Sikorska.
New patients = paperwork, go early. Entrance is back, up the hill. Ample parking. Inside is large, open & clean. Front desk women are nice. Vet techs nice, but younger. We asked what to expect ahead & about $$. They very helpful, open,& honest. They told us the plan for appt --intake, doctor exam, possible testing, results of any testing w/ doctor, & done. We said upfront we did not want any tests w/o us agreeing to it or $. They had no issues & even gave a us an estimate. This was NOT an ER appt. We agreed to echocardiogram & BP. The CXR & labs were sent from our vet. Echo took < 20 min. Our dog did well @ appt. Dr. Sikorska very nice w/ wonderful bedside manner. She answered ?'s & was very informative about our dog's dx. Honestly, we were concerned about some reviews, but we had positive experience. We would go back to her and recommend her

Unfortunately, PVSEC is the only game in town for some specialty Vet needs. And if your pet has a very specific issue/emergency that can be identified and only requires one specialty doctor, than PVSEC may work for you. But if your pet has an illness that requires some analysis and coordination between doctors, PVSEC is not the place. After thousands of dollars and a process that seemed to be a haphazard elimination game designed to extract the most money at the expense of a sick pet, we decided to go to the OSU veterinary school for another opinion/analysis. They coordinated between each other and analyzed the problem almost immediately. Our dog is now on the road to recovery. To be honest, they made PVSEC look ridiculous because they thought through the problem and are much more experienced. It also confirmed with me that PVSEC brings you down a path not focused on the needs of the pet, but rather to extract the most money from the pet owner. Go elsewhere if you can.

If you go, remember you are visiting a business. A business focused on $$$$. This business has very little customer focus. The focus by the Dr.s is to help your pet, but at a price. They will look at your pet then give you an estimate and wait for you to say, Yeah I can afford that or no I can't. They will only assist your pet if you pay an 80% deposit first. Sometimes I felt they were holding my dog for ransom. The surgeon who operated on my dog was good. However, the radiologist and especially the oncologist are extremely poor with communication. I've waited up to 2 weeks to have Dr. call me back, which really never happened, I had the talk with Dr during the next visit. The techs will call you the next day but it's hard to get the Dr. to return your call. Very frustrating when you've already given them $2500.00 for cancer treatments. I am seeking a second opinion from a different practice. Will only use this place again if I have no other options! Good luck!

There probably isn't a better group of surgeons and specialists any where in the city. I have experienced truly gifted and caring docs. However, you need to focus on the fact that these docs and your pet are the reason to go to PVSEC. The way the business is run at PVSEC will frustrate you, upset you and anger you at the time when you are probably in trauma over the plight of your pet. Communications between docs, techs to docs but particularly to you are frightful and don't expect Customer or rather patient service. Knowing this, you can go into PVSEC fully aware of their flaws so that you can focus on what is best for your pet.
It is the organization that surrounds the docs that is troubled. With that in mind; it will never be improved. But price and patient satisfaction are not the issues to focus on when you go there; or don't go there. Go for the skill of the docs. If there is a way to help your pet those docs will find it.

These people care only for money not your pet.I took my cat there for anemia and all they did for two days is call asking for more and more deposits.I maxed out my care card my sisters care card and a visa. They wanted 3000.00 more. They were supposed to do surgery on my cat instead the vet called to demand more money when I couldn't come up with 600 more dollars they called o ff her surgery and wanted to put her to sleep.I took her home to die pecefully with her family. One minute they said she could have the surgery and when I didn't have the600.00 they called off the surgery gave her a badblood infusion and basically killed her.I hate this place and am reporting them.Money is all they want not your pet to get better. They encourage euthanasia over saving your pet.My cat was so precious to me and they treated her like she should be disposed of. They are thieves and crooks.I am glad my baby came home with me to die peacefully.
