This vet KNOWS CATS. As a Siamese cat owner my whole life, I just believed this breed throws up its food after it eats. In one visit/consultation, Karen told me that Siamese cats are allergy prone and have sensitive digestive systems. We switched our cat to hypoallergenic food and the problem disappeared. The staff handles my cat sensitively and respectfully, which can be challenging because my cat doesn't like strangers. We've also used their boarding services and my cat is returned to me calm, healthy and happy. This vet specializes in cats, and that knowledge is worth paying for.

The staff rating is for the one and only Vet. Karen Zutrauen is a jaded old person who exudes bitterness and impatience, but holds herself in high regards above other people. The way she speaks to people shows how sad her life is.
Karen, you should learn to be a nicer person.

Friendly staff providing much TLC for all Kitty patients. Follow up care calls periodically is a nice touch they offer. The Doctor was pleasant and offered lots of great tip suggestions. Reasonably priced Exam and dental cleaning fees. We are regular patients. Her boarding rates are priced very reasonably too and we regularly trust leaving our kitty there when on vacation. The Doctor also helps the SPCA out when situations calls for it out of compassion which was nice to observe.

This is an excellent clinic with knowledgable and caring staff. We have compared costs with other clinics and theirs are totally reasonable. One of our cats has recently had a thyroid problem that was diagnosed early enough that non-surgical treatment was a good option. Dr. Zutrauen is always available - even on statutory holidays - to consult and advise and come into the clinic if needed. We tried another veterinary clinic one year and immediately decided we would return to Cat Care as they are by far the best.

Dr. Zutrauen and her staff were excellent in their care of our very sick kitty. The Doctor met us at the clinic late on a Saturday night and basically saved our kitty's life. Throughout his long recovery they were all kind, knowledgeable, and caring. We were listened to and communicated with about the treatment for his pancreatitis with such positive results.

I wish I would have read this forums posts before I visited this vet. The workers seem like they care but the Vet (Karen) just does this for the money! I took my cat in that had just starting throwing up a lot that day we brought him in. When we got there she blew it up and made it feel like it was the end of the world. That his liver was bad his kindneys were bad and just shoved him full of 1500 dollars worth of meds and borded him for a few days. Brought him home and he was fun except super groggy from the drugs and super hungry. She gave us these anti-biotics to give him everyday and when we started them he lost his appetite completely. I called and asked them if the meds were to suppress his appetite and said no. I wanted to take him off of the meds because he was not reacting well to them and the assistant just wanted me to rbing him in for another thousand dollar crap shoot that this lady does! Save your money and avoid this Vet clinic!!!

Dr Zutrauen is very knowledgable and very dependable. She likes to speak for her patients because not all owners know what is needed for their pets. She may come off as a little strong sometimes but it's all for your pets' benefit. Her prices are reasonable for her service, knowledge and dedication. She even brought home post surgery patients back to her own home to make sure everything goes smoothly. Difficult clients may view her as "all about money" due to the fact they aren't willing to spend some money to maintain their cats health but spend it on their vacations instead so of course it would be a little upsetting as a doctor to see one of their patients being neglected. The clinic always think about if the benefits/quality of life from the treatment offered outweighs the stress put on them from the procedure. I would recommend coming here if you are dedicated to your cats health. If not, you may find them annoying as they like to help you keep track of your cats' needs.

Dr Karen is not someone I would ever recommend. Her staff is ok but dr Karen is all about the money. Several years ago I had a very ill cat, I knew that my cat had cancer and euthanasia was the only way to go. She made me feel so guilty insisted on expensive procedures and tests. She knew from the initial visit, my beloved cat needed to be put down. She wanted to milk it for all it was worth. . Find another vet who will tell it like it is.

after dealing with few different vet clinics in richmond & been disappointed with all of them, I finally found cat care & for 5 years i have been extremely happy with Karen. she is very knowledgable & very nice, she is good with my cat & not more expensive than any other clinics out there. you get what you pay for and I get the best care for my Baby. If you have a cat she is the best to go too.

I used to work here but quit due to the stress put on me by Karen.She's very unprofessional, rarely sticks around to do her job, and would rather run errands instead of taking care of the patients herself and training new employees. She expects you to know how to do everything and bullies workers and clients. Her people skills are terrible and I do not recommend this clinic.

We were bullied by Karen who insisted we put our cat on insulin which we bought and took home. They called twice and left messages. When we returned the call, she demanded we bring our cat in at once for an exam, we refused and she threatened to contact the SPCA, which she did. We had already taken our cat to a different vet the previous week and tests were done and she was put on a high protein low carb diet and has been fine ever since, with NO insulin.

I thought I was the only one with a problem.if you are wealthy ,go there,if not,don't even bother.the vet is rude,and always making me feel that I am a bad pet owner because I can't afford all the tests she wants to do.she even told I should budget my money better to afford them.they also phone you constantly to badger you into making another appt.they constantly up there prices as well.You usually have to wait in the exam room about a extra 20- 30 min. For her to show up!

If you're the type of cat owner that likes to be involved with your pet's medical care then I would advise you to look elsewhere. Zuterman and her team do not like questions, period. If you dare to ask, you will be labelled as 'troublesome'. Furthermore, I question whether Zuterman has the cat's best interest at heart. While I was in the waiting room, I saw and heard her lecturing a new Canadian family in exam room # 1 about the importance of spaying/neutering a cat all the while the cat was in complete distress after being hit by a hit car. The cat had urinated and was suffering, but only Zuterman could think about was the importance of spaying/neutering. That was the turning point for me, you couldn't pay enough $$$ to go back there.

Karen Zutrauen did not seem to have any empathy for my 20 year old cat, but only about how much money she could soak me for. She wanted me to bring her in twice a week for a very expensive and painful procedure, which left the poor cat with a stomach full of water slooshing on the floor. My cat howled through the whole 10 minute procedure and was terrified just getting in the car to get there. That's not how to treat a beloved old lady who had a good life in good health for 20 years. I was so horrified with how Karen treated her that I could never go there again or recommend her to anyone who cares about their pet friends.

My kitty, Maruko, has been visiting Dr. Zutrauen for eight years. She is incrediblly knowledge and treating my kitty with professional manner. Her charge is also very reasonable. Comparing with other vets, she is the best on my list. I will recommend her to all cat owners.

Staff rude and gossipy. Covered up their incompetence with botching prescription dosages. Raising the dosages unneccessarily. Wrote false things about me in their client reports and forwarded to new vet. Vet herself knowledgable, but many disgruntled customers affected the staff and quality of care.

Dr. Zutrauen is a fabulous veterinarian. Very knowledgeable. Some vets may not have great people skills (although I find her people skills okay), but knowledge and experience are way more important in my opinion.

Not enough space to write about the bad experiences we've had at this vet. During a behavioural consultation they misdiagnosed a serious neurological issue with our cat and told us to "just play with him more" to improve his aggression. Only about half the time we went was Dr. Zutrauen actually there. Had a really really young vet (intern?) charge us crazy amounts for no diagnosis. Dr. Zutrauen had to call us days later to figure out what happened. Push their terrible product and won't accept it if you don't want to put your cat on their presciption diet, even when it's hurting the cat. Won't send our cat's file to our new vet except if we pay a very large fee and won't tell us about anything in his file. Very expensive too.

Front staff nice enough but Dr. Karen Zutrauen needs people skills. I also get the feeling it's all about the money as they keep phoning me too and I haven't been there for well over a year. There are also signs up all over the office about no refunds, only credits.

I hate to rate the staff poorly, it's really just the vet. She has poor social skills with actual people. Also, the office phones me constantly despite me never answering and even hanging up on them. They are all about money.

very informative but somewhat too expensive for any procedures. i gave 3 for staff because i overheard the staff were gossiping another client with the vet about the client requesting a financial plan to pay off the expensive bill.
