Click to report rating    2/25/14   1     3     2     1   We brought our beloved cat Bella to be diagnosed & treated. Her mouth was sore & she’d been mewing loudly. After examination, Dr. Carillo concluded a possible reason was a broken tooth & infection in her jaw. Instead of pill-form antibiotics, she used Convenia, a long-lasting drug that would cover her until dental surgery. She administered the Convenia & 2 hours after returning home, we found Bella dead. We called the vet first; a recording advised us to contact our emergency vet. Bella was taken there for cremation. Trying to understand how a healthy cat with only a dental problem could have died so suddenly, we explored the Convenia. It took only a few seconds to find thousands of reports of adverse reactions, including death. It was a shock to realize the Dr. used this drug without informing us of possible side effects, especially when other options existed. It was the dr's. obligation to provide information to give informed consent for the use of this drug. She chose not to. RID: 50122
