I see that they are considered expensive but they provide more services than most vets. Andpets can’t talk so diagnosing involves testing instead Iof just guessing. When you , as a human go for surgery they test for problems first, not just take a chance. It depends if you want the best care or just cheap care. The lab companies make most of the money off the tests anyway, not the vet.

While they are friendly and conveniently located, THEY WILL OVERCHARGE YOU FOR EVERYTHING. they charged me $85 for a medication my dog did not even need, and when I called asking for a refund or future free consultation, they refused. friendly staff, but I need better monetary value more than I need a nice greeting.

I have a huge complaint here as well as a glowing reference for this hospital.I find they are very thorough yes, BUT.. they remind me of white shoe salesmen..You know the kind you run into when a loved one dies and your at the funeral home and your being sold up the Ying yang because they know they can play on your heart strings, MOSTLY your pocket strings! Today I took my 14 year old rescue Chihuahua in because I thought he had another ear infection...Immediately I was informed that my dog had a heart murmur and should have an ultra sound done as well as full blood work and a teeth cleaning, what $1,500- roughly...OH DID I MENTION AFTER THIS SALES PITCH THAT I HAD TO REMIND THE VET TO ..PLEASE LOOK AT HIS EARS AFTER ALL THATS WHY WE CAME HERE TODAY....WELL WE PAID $193.- (For an ear cleaning, and antibiotics) what's a serious rip off...(They had me leaving in tears thinking my dogs heart was going to give out any moment..HOW CRUEL TO PLAY ON PEOPLE AS YOU UP SELL YOUR CUSTOMERS..SHAME

I brought my newly adopted cat in for a routine exam a little while ago. The facilities were very clean and the receptionists were lovely. The vet (Dr.Carter I think??) who saw my cat was very gentle and did a thorough job answering all my "new mom" questions. The assistant was really great as well, spending extra time with me afterwards to go over the products that the vet suggested for my cat. The only thing that I couldn't rate perfect was punctuality because I had to wait 15 minutes past when my appointment was scheduled for which stressed my cat out a little in the waiting room. I would definitely recommend this clinic overall though.

I have been going to this hospital for the past few years and thankfully a majority of the visits were for regular cat check up/ vaccinations. The few times that I had to take my cat in for an illness, it was quite costly. I agree with the other reviewers about how they tend to push extra tests on you but they do respect whatever decision you make. I always tend to feel guilty for saying no but I simply cannot afford $500 for one test! The vets and all the staff members are extremely friendly and caring.

I have gone to this clinic for about 15 years. I have always gotten top notch care for my animals. Staff is excellent. I do agree they seem to be pushing extra tests now they are in the new building. My present dog has been healthy and they never suggested any tests on him, but now he has a few problems ( he is getting old) and they push the tests. Another thing I don't like- they used to vaccinate, take blood, clip nails, and do my dogs anal glands in the examing room with me present. Now, the vet just exams the dog, then wants to "take him to the back" to do all that. When I say I will go back with my dog, I get an excuse why I can't go with him. He is returned to me panting and really anxious. He is so scared to go in the back, he jumps in my arms and clings to me when a Tech comes to get him. He was never scared of them before. I now insist that they do everything with me present in the exam room.

I agree with reviews that note this clinic is aggressive in pushing for extra tests. I'm tired of the bills and feeling guilty when I say no because the benefit is vague. I'm switching vets.

My experience was completely different than the last reviewer. I was given a quote for a procedure, and in the end my invoice was much less than anticipated, and everything went so well. I feel the staff are very professional, and so knowledgeable, they are so good at explaining everything. It is the only vet hospital I have been to that takes time to talk with me, and call me at home when I have questions. I am very impressed.

The facilities are lovely (maybe that's why they charge so much). My cat needed all her teeth out. They estimated between $2100 and $2500 (tax extra). I went to my vet from Ladner (Trentant Park - great service by caring Vets). All teeth out for $1560 (includes taxes). South Bby recommend cleaning the teeth ($800) and doing biopsy. Vet in Ladner said there was no point and hard on my cat to be put under. It's all abut the money at South Burnaby. Very disappointing....I just hope people do a cost comparison. Even their food is more expensive.

This is a great clinic. We have been taking our pets there for years, and would not go any where else. The care is exceptional, and the staff very friendly and kind. I feel like we can trust everyone to do the best for our pet.

Yes, this vet does charge more but it is worth it. Dr Buxton was the only vet in Burnaby who would see our teddy bear hamster when he had a growth on his paw that would have surely killed him. Her gentle care added another year to his short life. We were so pleased with her care of the hamster that we started bringing our cat there too. She has since developed serious arthritis and their care has been compassionate and thoughtful. We have been up-front with the vets about wanting to balance cost and our cat's comfort. They do often suggest a lot of tests but that's because they want you to know all of the options. They have been very open to dialogue when I tell them we aren't able to pay for all the procedures that are on offer, and they are extremely respectful of our wishes.

This clinic is phenomenal. They have been there for the past 1.5 years with our "lemon" of a dog, who just always seems to have something wrong. They always have a smile and a cuddle for her, and I love how the vets will really take the time to explain everything to you clearly. GREAT CLINIC!

We've been seeing this vet since my puppy was just a baby. He's been through a hernia surgery among other things, and they've always taken top notch care of him. The staff are always more than happy to help -- be it during the visit or over the phone. They're great and I am so lucky to have found them! My only complaint is that some services seem a little expensive, but I'd rather that than to go to a vet that I don't trust.

The staff is nice and facilities very much up to date, but this is one of the most expensive vet hospitals I've been too. The vets also push for additional tests/procedures a lot, even for my very healthy dogs. I've changed to another veterinary hospital and my dogs receive care that is focused and deals with specific issues as needed - and the cost is significantly less expensive for what I consider much better care.

It's no wonder this hospital has won Best Vet Hospital in Burnaby over 10 times. I have never been to a vet who was so kind, and also so thorough. All the doctors there are great, they take time to listen, and I know my pet is in good hands. They are the only clinic I have been to that books 30 minutes for an appointment. This is the place to go if you want good service and great care for your pet. I'll never go anywhere else. Trust me, I have, and it is not worth it. You definitely get what you pay for.

My beautiful cat has been going to the SBVH for her whole life (5+ years). She was spayed by Dr. Buxton and the experience was great. She has since had all her shots there, the food they recommeded is great for her and she eats way less than the supermarket stuff (and less to clean up too!). She has been boarded there many times - just picked her up today and she was so happy - brushed and clean. The boarding facility is amazing!!

I used this vet for 10 yrs, and I'm not sure why! I thought that maybe you "get what you pay for", but that's not the case in this situation. This place is a rip off. They will charge you for EVERYTHING, and insist on unnecessary tests and treatment. The final straw for me was when they almost killed my dog doing her spay surgery. That's when I started to look for a new vet, and found one that I absolutely LOVE. They do a much better job and they charge (I'M NOT EXAGGERATING) 1/3 of this vets prices. To summarize, the staff at South Burnaby are very nice (as are the vets), but the service is poor, and the prices are unnecessarily sky high!

I highly recommend this clinic and the vet Dr. Buxton. You won't meet a more caring, compassionate and competent group of people. The facilities are also first rate. Dr. Buxton has been treating my dog Bengi for 5 years and he loves her. I don't know of another dog that loves going to the vet. I have tried some of the "discount" clinics before I found Dr. Buxton and trust me, you get what you pay for.

I will never step foot in there again. When we moved here we were recommended this vet and knew the prices were high. We brought our 4 yr old dog in for vomiting and diarreah with a history of eating foreign things. They took multiple tests and xrays (xrays can only see hard items nothing soft like blankets, etc.)to determine she had pancreatitis. (in a younger dog pancreatitis is usually a SECONDARY problem as to whats really going on) medications didn't help. Had to take her to emergency over Christmas for dehydration and finally went to our old vet in Mission who immediatley did a barium swallow, found an object lodged in her intestines and operated the next day. Her intestines were so badly damaged because of the time spent on other useless things, a major portion had to be removed with the rest badly damaged. She is doing fantastic now-back to herself! SOUTH BURNABY WILL COST YOU $$$ AND SELL YOU ON USELESS THINGS AND MEDICATIONS. They may look pretty but BEWARE.

I have brought my dog to SBVH ever since he was a puppy (5 years). I really liked the vet Dr. Buxton, but since they have moved to their new location, I have found the service/value to deteriorate. It's not that it's poor, but they seem to spend less time and try to sell more things nowadays when I bring my dog in for checkups, etc. Given the price for the given value, I will start looking for a new vet.

Highly recommended. The staff and vets are amazing. They are all so caring and kind, and they treated my pet so well. The facility is the nicest clinic I have been in, it is so clean and new. Excellent service, and great people that work there. You can tell everybody just loves animals, and loves to work there. They also have a small pet store in the building, so I can buy my dog treats and pet food at the same time.

All the veterinarians there are female. It is owned by Dr Buxton. I really enjoy going their with my girls as I know they are well taken care of. They have a store attached to the clinic as well. They are a little on the pricey side but are professional and kind.

When I had my dog spayed there, they left guaze in her stomach. She almost died. She was deathly ill for 2 weeks and I called the vet everyday. They telling me that it was the anesthetic that was making her sick. I finally took her in and made them do xrays - they saw something on the xray and charged me $1800 to do "exploratory surgery". They found the guaze and along with necratized small bowel. They removed three pieces of her small bowel due to necrosis that occurred where the guaze was contacting her intestines. They did refund my money, but my dog has never been the same. I would NEVER allow that place to lay a hand on any of my animals again.

We are first pet owners and only had our cat for a week, and came here for her shots. I was more anxious than my cat, and the vet was very calming and confident. So far, so good.
