Staff unhelpful. Doctors detached and uninterested. No interaction with pet owners. After procedure the doctor would not see us to explain what she did because it was after 5 and she was off at 5 o'clock.. Payment was primary.Cost me $276.00 and still do not know what is wrong with my dog.

Had a bad emergency experience with this establishment. These people's first and foremost priority is to make money, and lots of it. They will use your emotional state to capitalize on that. They showed no compassion for my pet or us.

I have had very good experiences with this practice until recently. The more experienced vets seem to have left the practice, and it is very apparent that dollars are much more important to them now than appropriate treatment. The doctor we always saw retired. We visited for an ongoing eye issue that one of my diabtic dogs has experienced for the past year or so. The new doctor did the exact same treatment as the previous one; however, the charges were doubled (~$550). Then I was told that the treatment didn't work, and a different treatment was recommended that would cost $1200 and, if that didn't work, another treatment would be necessary that would cost in excess of that amount. Again, this problem was treated by the now retired vet for approximately $250. The excuse given was the difference in medication preferences by the new vet.
Stay away from this place if possible. Unfortunately, there is a real shortage of veterinary specialists in the Charlotte area, so it can be

Made the painful decision to euthanize.
Waited for approximately one hour in the consult room after decision was made with no contact from any support staff.
She was brought to us with 2 legs shaven and numerous visible needle track marks on both her legs. They were having trouble inserting in her legs. A catheter was placed in her neck.
The propofol was administered and she did not fall asleep.
The doctor continued to administer the second round of drugs when our dog was not responding to the propofol. Obviously the catheter was not inserted properly.
We were then told she needed more "medicine" and she was taken to a back room still awake. We have no idea what happened from that point on. What should have been a peaceful transition was not for anybody involved!
Gave the facility a 5 because the building is pristine. Just wish the care matched that.

We took our 4 yr old boxer to see the vet in township in nc. He has a growth on his eyelid. It popped up suddenly and has grown and a tremendous rate. They looked him over and gave us a estimate for $2500. To have the mass removed and reconstruct his eyelid. Plus they freaked us out saying it was cancer. Of course thus us way out if our budget. We then went to another vet and they looked at it took some cells and looked under the microscope and no cancer just a hystiocytoma. Google it. Boxers are prone to get these. Something a vet should know right away. Needless to say it cost only $200. To have this done. How can a company that treats animals want to rip off family's? They made us feel awful cuz we couldn't afford the $2500. Please do not take ur pet here. Only in it for money and want to RIP u off.

Dr Morgan Dixon was condescending and rude, dismissed my observations about my 14yo dog suffering seizures, disorientation, salvation, dizziness, difficulty walking, ataxia, and told me that "Heartgard will not cause seizures, it must be an underlying condition". All blood panels came back clean, waste of money, then she wanted to do neurological testing to "determine what nervous system disorder" was causing his issues when it was clearly ivermectin (Heartgard) toxicity. Issues began within 3 hours of taking it, this month and last. Never told me to discontinue use, said it was "not the cause". Simply untrue, if I didn't figure it out on my own and continued use it could kill my dog. Upon checkout they overcharged $100, I pointed out three separate errors on the invoice, they said were "simple mistakes", veterinarian would not talk to me.

My cat had reoccurring issues of sinus inflammation and he wasn't eating. (his nose was stuffed, so he couldn't smell his food, so he wouldn't eat) After not eating for 3 days I finally took him to CVS. This was a Saturday. The cats vet wasn't on duty til Monday. The vet on duty said he was gonna nebulize him even after I told him several times that that wouldn't help and he just needed to clear out his nose. He insisted the best was to nebulize!! So after leaving the cat there over the weekend getting nebulized, he STILL wasn't eating. Monday comes along and dr. schaffer says, oh, he needs to have his nose cleared!! :o If they had just called her over the weekend, I could've saved a lot of money and stress!! Mind you, I don't have a problem with the expensive bill, my animals are worth it, but I felt I was ripped off. If they had looked at my cats file, they would've seen nebulizing wasn't doing the job!!

The doctors at Carolina Veterinary Specialists in Matthews have been awesome! My dog, Brandy, was seen by an ER doctor as well as an internal medicine specialists. The doctors and staff were always so kind, and provided me with options each step of the way. Eventually we decided it was best to euthanize Brandy, but I will never forget the care and compassion everyone there showed. They treated Brandy well and provided great medical care up until the time we had to say goodbye. Thank you so much!

I saw Dr. Peter Brofman with my paralyzed dog in January 2011. He was one of the neurosurgeons at CVS and I could not have asked for a more caring, intelligent, capable, and sympathetic doctor to care for my little boy. Dr. Brofman made sure I understood all of my options, our expectations, and helped me decide what was best for both me and my little boy. He never made it about money, but was also aware that there is significant cost associated with spinal surgery and made sure I knew all of my medical and surgical options available. Hopefully you never need to see Dr. Brofman, but if you do you will be in excellent hands!

Very bad experience. All they care about is the money and they want it up front before they actually do anything. My dog had Gall Bladder surgery after going in for an ultrasound. I had to make a decision on the surgery quickly. They said everything went fine but my dog never recovered and died 3 weeks later after suffering. Once the surgery was done they sent him home, he didn't eat and was moaning all the time and not eating. I took him back in asked if the medicine was making him sicker, they ignored me, three days later they said it was the medicine. They changed the medicine and sent him home again. DId 2 more ultrasounds and said everything looked fine but he still wasn't eating. They advertise 24 hour coverage but try to talk to someone nights and weekends. The doctor in charge of my was out for days after the surgery and when back never returned calls, had another outage for days and no one seemed to be able to cover. They charged 5000+ to kill my dog. I will NEVER go back.

This place, honestly makes me sick to my stomach. The vet, vet tech.'s, "manager" do not care about animals or their patients, only money (as previous posts have showed). When you have an animal who is in horrible condition and you are aware that their may not be anything anyone can do about it the last thing you want to hear is "Make a decision", a few minutes later "Have you figured it out yet?" Where is the compassion?!?! Where is the CARE for animals and their "parents"???? NOT HERE!!!! & do not bother speaking to the "Head of Staff" Manager, she is more worried about keeping an image then putting on a sympathetic face. Thiefs and Heartless people, all of them. Glad I never have to go there again!

First, let me point out, if you are taking your animal to CVS, it must be knocking on death's door. My cat, Jamie, had lost over half of her body weight in 1 month. She was sick. Dr. Schaeffer and her team did everything they could to save her. Jamie had cancer and there was no guarantee she would get better, so after 3 months of visits, feeding tubes, and numerous medications, I decided Jamie would be better off if she was put to sleep. After Jamie's death, Dr. Schaeffer sent me the most touching card and a clay mold of Jamie's paw prints. They were wonderful. Yes, it was expensive. We were at $2,000 on treatment when she was put down. but, again, you're paying for expertise and these docs are just that - experts. I would highly recommend them for your pet's emergency care.

I have had 3 dog treated at CVS Pineville. In the last 2 years. All with completely different neuro issues. We had MRI's surgeries, rehabs, wheelchairs. After battles with each illness they have all passed away. There is no way I could have ever gotten thru this without the care of Dr Peter Brofman & his staff. I received excellent care, work in appts MANY times with almost no notice. Understanding & some flexibility with my many bills for multiple pets. I was always able to get ahold of Dr Brofman even if he was out of the office. I was never made to feel like a "bother" even though I made MANY tearful phone calls asking questions & discussing the smallest details of my pets with Dr Brofman. I asked impossible questions & got honest answers. My goal was to help my pets live for as long as they were happy. I wanted excellent care from Dr Brofman and his staff and I got it, and even more.

Five years ago, my rating would have been 5's across the board. However, after being led around for 2 mos and big $$$$ only to lose the animal with no explanation as to why by a vet that I can only describe as arrogant (despite a total lack of success in her treatment, he refused to consult with the other vet at CVS who had treated her successfully five years ago) and uncaring who could not even call afterwards to tell us he was sorry (we had to put her down while out of town on business), giving anything but 1's is hard. If you love your pet, beware.

I traveled to gthis facility as my bird was injured on a wkend. Otherwise I wld have used my reg vet. Lauren Powers is supposed to be Avian Cert. & I found no expertise exhibited. She diagnosed bone breaks she could not fine on xray. Notes bleeding tha began after exam manipulation. She put a feeding tube either in the wrong plc or left it too long as on autopsy it was found in the esophagus leading to stom. I believe it migrated bcause it was left too long, when I saw black stools, called, she said to watch. Last 2 or 3 feedings seemed to hurt him & he stumbled.Did not show concern. He died,I was forcing a large amt of food into stom, whereas you put a lg amt into crop and it moves small amts to stom. SLOWLY. Stom is small. Also a full 12 hrs of pain med went into his stom at bed time that should have gone to the crop. He died the next morning & on autopsy, his intestines were full of blood. Injury was 5 days healed, stomach was plugged by tube, no blood could pass,he got no water either

These are the vets you can turn to w/ confindence & know that your pet will receive the absolute best care possible. As the owner of several dogs & cats, I have an extensive history as one of their clients. My vet has always recommended them when the situation warranted advanced care & I have never been displeased. Dr. Purnell, in particular, has treated 5 of my pets & always worked to ensure that my animals have the highest quality of life possible. Currently my dog, Holly, has been diagnosed w/ cancer & we were given very little hope. Not satisfied w/ that, she consulted w/ others & developed a treatment plan that has Holly feeling well and me hopeful. She has always treated my pets as though they were her very own. Additionally, Dr. Hoch, one of the surgeons w/ the practice has successfully performed complicated surgeries on two of my dogs. W/o her, Cooper would have died w/in days instead of living a good life until the age of 16 and a half. I recommend them highly!

THIS IS AN ER???? TAKE YOUR PET TO NC STATE VET SCHOOL IF THEY NEED BLOOD OR ANTICIPATE A DEAD ANIMAL SOON AFTER. I AM A CRITICAL CARE RN OF 30 YEARS, CONTACT ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS REVIEW PLEASE. IF YOU WANT SPECIALTY, YOUR LOCAL VET WOULD BE MORE CARING THAN THIS PLACE. THEY ARE ONLY THINKING OF THEIR POCKETBOOK AND THEY WILL PAY DEARLY FOR THEIR MISTAKE WITH MY TYLER, A ROBUST 6 YEAR OLD DOG THAT WALKED INTO THEIR CLINIC FOR AN ORDINARY LAB VISIT AND DIED AT NC STATE VET SCHOOL AFTER THEIR NEGLIGENCE 2 DAYS LATER.

Be very very aware that Carolina Veterinary Specialists is a business first. I was casually led down the path of surgery for my 11 year old dog, and then asked to make a five minute decision "while he's still under anesthesia" was how the doctor put it over the phone while my dog was still on the operating table. Well, to make a long story short, my dog survived surgery on friday, but died by the end of the weekend. And on top of a dead dog, they slapped me with an $8,000 bill, two to three times the estimate, refusing to budge when I complained. Yes it looks like a pet hospital, but it's very much a business.
I bet a very profitable business.

I'm commenting on Dr. Peter Brofman, a neurologists with this "prestigious" clinic. I took my dog to Dr. Brofman for a neurological evaluation due to a back problem that could not be diagnosed where I live. Apparently, during a procedure, someone did not do his intubation correctly and he aspirated. According to Dr. Brofman, as well as the clinic records, Luke died 24 hours later of aspiration pneumonia. The attitude of the entire staff was atrocious. They didn't care about him or about me. The attitude was we don't want to waste our time caring for a dog who is obviously going to die, even though they were responsible for his condition. I had to finish paying the bill, over three thousand dollars, before his body was released. If you want to have the dead body of your beloved companion animal loaded in the trunk of your car, and still have to pay your bill, go there.

We "rescued" a puppy from Stacys Pets and she immediately came down with severe pneumonia and would have died without Dr. Thompson's care. We are so appreciative of what they did for Gracie.

Specifically, I'm commenting on Dr. Lauren Powers, a board-certified avian vet who sees birds and small mammals (ferrets, etc) in Huntersville. She rocks! Excellent with ferrets. After-hours emergency staff are outstanding as well.
