Never, EVER go here! I took my cat in for an emergency because he was throwing up, and I didn't know where else to go. I was not in the exam room at all, I sat there for 6 HOURS without seeing my cat and without a clue what was happening. After 4 days, a surgery, and $4,300 later I took him home. I was told a multitude of different illnesses that they found - kidney stones, an inflamed intestine, dental rotting, and a tumor on his intestine just to name a few. I was quoted around $1,200 and it turned into $4,300 literally overnight, which they demand up front and in full.
Best part! After $4,300 they then charged me $79.00 for medicine I never agreed to, they then charged me $65.00 for a suture removal that I was required to come do. How is that not included in a $4,000 surgery?? I'm happy my James is alive and well, but I'm not convinced he ever needed surgery in the first place.
This place is a complete sham. Go ANYWHERE else and your pet will be better off, and so will you.

I brought my cat in because of urinary and ataxia symptoms he was having. Unbeknownst to me, they gave my cat steroids DESPITE knowing that he had a heart murmur. After they kept him overnight, they discharged him to me, and when I brought him home and let him out of his cage, he was in respiratory distress. I immediately brought him back to the hospital and an x-ray showed that he was in acute heart failure. They even admitted that it was because of the steroids. He then had to stay at their facility for a week and they charged me $2,000. The office manager refused to admit that the hospital stay was due to their negligence. I am now suing them for not allowing me informed consent to treat him with steroids that had a risk of putting him into heart failure due to his underlying hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and the fact that they discharged him to me while he was in acute heart failure.

Prices are ridiculously expensive. My dog was fixed at my vet for $185. He opened the stitches and GVH charged me $731.44 to put two stitches in to fix it. (Which was about $20 more than the high estimate - they give you a low and high estimate.) I felt like I had no choice b/c there was nowhere else to take him and I feel that they took advantage of that fact. I waited at least 1 1/2 hr. to see the doctor. For pick up I was told 8-9, then 10, then 11. Service was fine but I really feel the prices were outrageous and unreasonable. I just felt they exploiting the circumstances.

Hi, Never take your animal here, they did surgery on my wonderful dog and he died on the table .They held his ashes hostage until I paid them for killing my best friend to the tune of $5,000. That is the truth, you decide.

My 18 yr. old dog having vomiting issues was "borrowed" from me while I filled out the initial paperwork. My first clue that something was wrong when the form asked for my SS Number. I was told to wait in the exam room. After 15 minutes there was no vet and no dog. I stepped out to inquire and was told that he was fine, they must be re-weighing the dog. Dr. finally showed and immediately went into plan for blood work, hospitalization with IV lines and cancer screening. Meanwhile, dog is still missing. I've never had any pet examined away from me. I explained that I wished to pass on their treatment and wanted the dog back. It took over 20 minutes before they would agree to let me have him back. They charged $120 for an exam that I didn't observe and no other treatment. I wish I had seen other ratings before I wasted my time. I feel I got out lucky compared to many other stories here.

After an inconclusive xray the vet pushed for a foreign body surgery on my dog. This vet was pushing a foreign body surgery before they even did the xray. It cost me $2,000. After the surgery the vet told me that they found a toy in my dog, however when I asked what it was she trailed off. I asked what did it look like and she had no idea, yet she was the one who did the surgery. I'm pretty sure they found nothing in my dog and that was a complete waste of money, however they won't tell you that. I took my dog there another 2-3 times for what turned out to be a systematic yeast infection. The vet never figured it out though; I did, via Google. This vet prescribed steroid topical sprays and antibiotics because my dogs nails turned brown and told me to just give him a zyrtec every day. I looked it up online and changed my dogs diet and got him on probiotics. My dog is perfectly healthy now, no thanks to the overpriced vets at this clinic who prescribe drugs for nothing.

We took our cat in because she was pawing at her mouth. The doctor saw no cavities but felt that she should have xrays. This cat was known to be sensitive to anastesia so I agreed to a light dose for xrays only. When I picked her up, she was bleeding from the mouth and could not walk. They removed 3 teeth, no xrays, and put her under completely. About $6000 and one month later, she pulled out of it by herself. Unfortunately, a couple of years later, when my husband was in the hospital, I took her there since I could not take care of her. A week later, we picked her up. She died a couple of hours later. Now we live almost next to this place but will NEVER go there.

We visited this hospital because our cat Buttons had been poisoned by some flea medicine. They were unable to revive him, we brought our other cats in for services, leading to a vet bill of over $700. We wanted a copy of the doctor's report about Buttons' death. The office manager refused to let us talk to the doctor to discuss the report. So, offhand, I threatened to contact my credit card. The mood of the conversation improved, after sending a letter I was able to speak with the doctor. She said she would send a report in a few days. No report arrived, we called the hospital again at which point the office manager refused to give us the report, paranoid that we would dispute the charges even though the hospital had already gotten paid. She insisted we needed to make a second payment with either cash or a cashier's check before she would release the record. We had our credit card company send a letter, reassuring them there would be no dispute, but we have yet to receive a response.

They nickel and dime you for everything! Would not recommend, but I had no other choice as they are the only 24 hour vet in the area.

We've been coming to GVH for years. I will say the turnover is extremely high. I'd like to get to know the vet that treats my pet. They do act quickly in a crisis, which is comforting. However, I too find them extremely expensive. I've seen them spend 1500 in 11 hrs. With bills like that, they need to be more understanding with payment, especially in emergencies that you don't plan for. I think they take vets right out of vet school, which explains the high turnover. When I get my next pet, I will be looking elsewhere for care. I was talking to a friend about the charges I incurred at GVH in 11 hrs, he just about fell over. He recommended another vet. On a positive note, they are 24hrs, charge you more if you aren't a patient, and are very high tech. But you pay for all of that x10!

This place is terrible. I waited more than 8 hours for my dog to be taken into surgery on an emergency basis for a severe laceration with possible nerve injury. Got here at 6pm and they gave me the run-around in re when surgery will start. Notwithstanding the deposit of $1,200.00 (which they promptly requested), I had to listen to everyone say that the delay is caused due to new "emergency cases," while not one staff or vet wanted to tell me that he/she considered my dog's situation to be a non-emergency (?) so I could take him elsewhere where they will treat my dog without waiting around for more "emergencies" to roll in. FYI, I've used this place several times over the past 3 years and each and every time I ago (when I have to), I deeply regret doing so. just hoping that no more "emergencies" roll in so they can care of my dog. I'm also a retired attorney so I don't have problems paying $$ but this place is solely and simply only interested in $$ and not your animal's best interest.

I have used this Vet for years and now find that they have priced themselves out of the market. I recently received a quote for a teeth cleaning for my dog. The price was shocking and I called around to local vets and EVERY vet in the area was half of their price! They did not care that I took my dog somewhere else for the procedure and were very cocky and wished me luck at another vet. At my last visit I waited over an hour for my set apt, there were cats walking all over the place and the floors were DIRTY! I am now looking to take my dogs elsewhere and the vets here do not care. They are VERY over-priced and do not deserve this luxury with the conditions at this office.

I took my puppy here when she vomited five times in an hour. I explained to the vet that I had not watched her during a period of 5 to 10 minutes and was worried that she either ate my other dogs food ( not for puppies ) or something else. She took an xray and advised me to have surgury on her asap because she say a blockage. She did not show me the xray because she said the machine to display was not working. I agreed to the surgery, there was nothing found and my morning she was fine. I had to demand to see the xray that I paid for and when I did, there was nothing there to be seen. I asked to speak with the owners and they refused. This happened a few years ago. Since then I have spoken to another friend regarding this vet that recommended surgery for an 18 year old cat at the tune of $6000.00 dollars. when she said she couldn't afford it, they lowered the price to $2000.00. Then layed a guilt trip for them opting to put the cat down. STAY AWAY FROM THIS VET!

everyone seemed to truly care about my dog and always made a big fuss over her. i thought the doctors seemed to be very knowledgable and while i did have to wait for awhile to be seen, I was an emergency client. overall me and my dog were pleased

Prices are high but are well worth the convenience and care that is given. I have had to taken my dog in for emergencies as well as regular visits and the care has been great. She was nursed back to health from a liver issue. There are always follow up calls to find out how the pet is doing. In my opinion, I need a vet that is avilable 24 hrs a day and I am will to pay for that.

THE WORST!Staff is rude.Vets are inexperienced. I had one that told me rimadyl had NO SIDE EFFECTS!!!That female vet(last name starts w/an M) now practices at Atglen Veterinary Hospital. There has actually been a class action lawsuit against the maker of this drug because it has KILLED som many dogs!My dog almost died and I had to go through 4 different veterinary hospitals and THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS before my dog recovered. It's taken YEARS to get my dog's liver and kidney functions better. And THEY ACTUALLY HAD THE NERVE TO SUE ME. STAY AWAY!!!!

Unless you have a money tree in your yard stay away.. we were given a high and a low estimate of what the cost of treatment for my sick puppy with parvo would be, I am a senior and a veteran living on social security. I told them I had x amount of dollars in savings and could not afford more than what they quoted as high end treatment of 2,600.00. that my finances did not allow for another bill that I could not make payments. I would sign the pup over if necessary. after 3 days of treatment the bill was 1900. when he died on the 4th day the bill was 4010,00 I asked to meet with the owner to have the bill explained to me and was refused. I have payed them $2000. and will pay the rest of what the high estimate was. and will most likely see them in court where they can explain to the judge how they spent $2000 in less than 8 hours , when he was there for 3 days and it didn't total that much?? I wouldn't recommend this place. I can't believe the owners don't care enough to meet with me..

The high turn over of doctors is very concerning. You used to be able to establish a relationship with your doctor, now they leave faster than you can see them twice. Very concerning.

Animals are very well cared for. Hospital is clean and staff seems to really care for the pets that are in the hospital. May have to wait but it is a busy place. Prices are very high though.
