Our Rottie suddenly became lame, turned out to be ruptured disk. We took her to Ryan Vet and are forever grateful. From the moment we arrived, every single person was caring. She was looked after round the clock and operated on. Communication was A+++++ we knew what we were facing. The surgery was performed by Dr. McDevitt and she called before and after the surgery explaining everything, somethings more than once. My baby was in ICU where she had round the clock care and then was moved over to recovery. She was always looked after, there some some on staff that went the extra mile and walked her to give exercise. When we picked her up, they spent alot of time with us going over everthing. The facility was top notch, every person we came in contact with was kind, professional, etc. Amazing place! Thank you so much for saving our girl.

My dog died of an allergic reaction and overdose because they mislabeled medication. Four residents and the head of the department never questioned why my dog was on Hydrocortisone and Prednisolone. Well, it was not Hydrocortisone, it was Hydrocodone (in a bottle labeled Hydrocortisone) and she was also on Tramadol at the same time. At some point the surgeon realized the mistake but failed to tell me. When I rushed her to the ER they gave her an additional sedative instead of checking for overdose and told me to give her Pepsid for her 'upset' stomach. She died 30 minutes after leaving the ER. These residents had no supervision whatsoever. I lived a nightmare watching my dog suffer for 5 weeks because she was allergic to Tramadol. She presented with every symptom of an allergic reaction possible yet they came up with a different diagnosis every time. If you want competent and professional care find an experienced vet. These are unsupervised, inexperienced residents at best.

We brought our male German Shepherd to the Emergency Hospital @ UPenn/Matthew J Ryan at 2am on a Sunday night with a fever of 106.9 and severe pneumonia. The ER staff was excellent and immediately attentive, and got fluids going and took other measures upon arrival. By morning he was still critical and was transferred to ICU where he spent 2 days in an oxygen crate and had very close attention from a wonderful vet, Dr Lindsey Tangeman, along with other staff. They saved our dog's life, and have since helped us in assessing some apparent neurological problems he has. Everyone I have met here has been professional, caring, and thorough. Without a doubt, the best in veterinary care I have come across, and I am glad they were there when we needed them. I highly recommend this animal hospital.

My dog was dying and I took him there. He had a GDV (stomach twist). The staff was so caring and compassionate as well as knowledgeable. My dog needed emergency surgery. It was expensive, but well worth it and my dog is home and doing woderfully.

This is a teaching hospital, so the people who are taking care of the animals are students who are still learning. This should have been a red flag for me, but I took my rabbit there anyway. He was severely dehydrated, so they advised me to leave him overnight and get intravenous fluids. They said he was in critical condition and needed fluids immediately. I gave them my rabbit at 2pm. They called me at 9:30pm to tell me they just started to give him intravenous fluids when he died. I asked why did they take over 7 hours to give him fluids and they had no answer. I firmly believe that he would still be alive if they had given him fluids at 2pm when I dropped him off, instead of at 9:30pm. They are students, so they will make mistakes sometimes. But this is negligence.

Because they left my dog in a crate in a back room supervised only by veterinary residents after she had surgery, she choked on her vomit and died. Had she been properly supervised by a vet, not a resident (as any smaller veterinary hospital would have done), this wouldn't have happened. I then made the mistake of taking my current dog there; they leave all the dogs in crates in a room when they aren't seeing vets. My dog got so upset she lost control of her bowels after she came home and I had to make a makeshift diaper out of a puppy training pad. Why she couldn't simply be brought back out to me in the waiting room with the other dogs, I have no idea.

If you have a sick pet this is the place to get the BEST possible care with a wonderful staff of students becoming DVM and senior DVM. Dr Sears and his staff were wonderful with our Male German Shepherd in 2005. In June 2008,if it wasn't for Dr Steinburg my 10 year old female German Shepherd would not be with us today. She's doing great! These are very special individuals who truely love animals. They also care about the owners by communicating what is happening, what procedures are recommended and honest accessment of the situation.
