Click to report rating    3/28/24   5     5     5     5   I can’t say enough about this clinic. OUTSTANDING in every possibility way. They care!!!! More times than not, they go above and beyond to make sure my cats are well taken care of. I Will never trust my animals to another vet ever. If you truly love your animals, bring them here. RID: 71034
Click to report rating    10/3/19   5     5     5     5   Fantastic clinic, our family pet loved going to see Dr. Boyd. Very professional and understanding. I cannot say enough good things about this clinic. RID: 68601
Click to report rating    5/23/19   1     1     1     1   I find the upselling outrageous. They con you into spending money on needless treatment. Be wary and stay away from this clinic. RID: 68049
Click to report rating    1/10/19   5     5     5     5   We took our cat here for 12 years, and have always had excellent care for her. We have dealt mostly with Dr. Boyd, and have come to trust her completely, as an excellent vet who cares about her patients and their owners. RID: 67215
Click to report rating    10/10/18   5     5     5     5   My cats see Dr. Preston. She is always patient with them and gives them time to get comfortable with their surroundings. She genuinely cares about them. The cats can sense that. They like her and so do I. RID: 66892

12/14/17   5     5     5     5   I have been going to this clinic for over 10 years and Dr Preston has been my dog’s doctor the entire time. I feel very fortunate to have her as my vet as she cares deeply for animals and has a great knowledge of veterinary medicine. She always takes the time necessary to thoroughly answer my questions (however many I may have) and I never feel rushed or dismissed. The reception and support staff are always very friendly and are always courteous both over the counter and over the phone. I recommend this clinic and especially Dr Preston to all of my friends and family. I highly recommend this clinic to anyone who is “vet shopping”. RID: 65211

12/13/17   5     5     5     5   Excellent clinic, amazing professional service. The staff are so helpful and compassionate. I can't say enough good things about how they treat their animals that come through the door. Always the best-thank you! RID: 65206
Click to report rating    9/15/17   2     3     2     1   We had brought our cocker spaniel there in February of 2016 with a terrible cough. Without really looking at the dog the vet right away diagnosed him with kennel cough. Upon going home, we went and got a second opinion and good thing as he was found to have congestive heart failure. Knowing our dog was mis-diagnosed like this was very irritating and concerning. Although his life will be shortened, it could have been shortened even more due to this if we iqnored our gut feelings. We also had a previous dog taken there as a puppy and the same vet looked at him and put the fear of god into him by trying to place a muzzle on him during his examination. We had to rush him back that evening and they had to place him in an oxygen tent in order to bring him around. Very unprofessional in his ethics and treatment towards any animal. RID: 64644

5/4/17   5     5     5     5   The staff at the Birchwood Animal Hospital have taken care of five of our pets over the past two decades. Our great experience with Dr. Robertson initially drove our decision to chose this clinic. (She did not hesitate to get down on all fours to greet our pup.) Since then, we have taken our dogs and cats here for all their routine vaccinations, emergency visits, surgeries and geriatric care. In addition to Dr. Robertson, we have had our pets treated by Drs Schott, Preston, Boyd, Hannah, and recently, Dr. Hunt. We found each one to be friendly, knowledgable and compassionate (to both us and our pets, even when we come in with both our dogs like a gong show). All the staff (receptionists, techs and vets) are patient and skillful with our timid pup, who was rescued from an abusive home. You can tell that everyone at this clinic genuinely loves their job and the animals they treat. We could not be happier with this clinic. RID: 63548

5/4/17   5     5     5     5   When our dog Meeka was very sick, the care we received was excellent. We had never been to Dr Hunt before and found her to be very thorough and good with Meeka. We came back later the same day for Dr Schott to do an Ultrasound. He squeezed us in his busy day. Unfortunately Meeka was not long for this world. A few days later we brought Meeka in to be put to sleep by Dr Prescott. We are forever thankful for the compassionate care we received from DrHunt, Dr Schott and Dr Prescott. We have been bringing our pets to Birchwood for over 20 years and would not go anywhere else. RID: 63546

4/18/17   1     1     1     1   staff are beyond rude and immature and act like they are in high school, if they don't like you they won't send files over for you or do anything. Dr.Boyd and Dr.Preston are terrible. Dr.Boyd may seem nice but she is completely incompetent and Dr.Preston has no heart or compassion for animals. All this clinic cares about is money, no matter the cost. I have been to several clinics and this is by far the worst. I took my very I'll cat there and trusted Dr.Boyd to help him and instead she charged me a ridiculous amount of money for tests and missed a huge tumor in his abdomen that a different clinic found immediately. I don't even know how she is a vet. My other cat was given over 2000 dollars in tests and never got a diagnosis. The office manager is a terrible human being sh just protects her staff because they are family as she puts it. This is a business and you have to treat your clients with respect and listen to complaints seriously. Do not take your pet here, learn from my mistake RID: 63392
3/17/17   3     3     3     3   We just starting going to this animal hospital as of last month. The staff the very first day we went were GREAT, which made us pick this hospital. We went again a second time for follow up bloodwork. This time, the receptionist wouldn't even look my way or talk to me. She would just talk to my husband. I'm not too sure why this behaviour is at all necessary. I can't help but think it's because I'm a minority and my husband is not. Because of this, I'm contemplating not going back to them again.  7/3/16   1     4     2     3   The front desk staff were heard talking about me after I left the clinic. Very unprofessional and rude. I will never go back there because of this, even though I think the vets are wonderful. It is unfortunate that a cliquey group of "mean girls" can undermine the reputation the clinic has been trying to build. Dr. Brandt would never have allowed this behaviour in his clinic. Shame on you all. RID: 61011

5/9/16   1     5     5     5   Just let me clarify by staff I mean the front receptionists!!! I found the techs and vets great!!!! I went there for a veterinary admin assistant practicum for a week and found the admin assistants/receptionists absolutely unprofessional, rude, gossipy and unwilling to teach and share their knowledge to a fellow to be tradesperson! By far the worst were Lisa and Amber!! Not only were they no asset to my practicum but found them very backstabbing to each other once one of them would walk away. Nice to customers face and when customers left very quick to talk negatively about the majority of the customers! They were the worst group of people I have ever had the misfortune of working around in 26 years!! If I were the vets who owned this clinic I would get a better grip on these clks!!!! RID: 60540

1/21/15   2     2     3     1   Facilities are dirty and foul smelling. Environment is noisy and rushed. Staff offers very little advice or treatment options. Expensive procedures were done on my cat that were not necessary. Strongly recommend pet lovers seek a different vet clinic. RID: 55555

8/5/14   1     1     1     1   Similar to the situation in 2011 with a clinic response indicating they were going to resolve the mishap from ever happening again. Our dog was diagnosed with lymphoma and we chose to put her to sleep once we saw rapid decline in her health. We were bad the day of and was told we could pay once we picked her up.We gave details and special instruction for private cremation. One week later when we were supposed to pick her up they told us that she was still there and that they needed to be paid first. If that was the case we could have the day of.I went and confirmed she was still there and like the situation in 2011 they had her in a black plastic bag at the bottom of a chest freezer. They were all apologetic but at that point I was hearing nothing.I told them to get the cremation finished and that was it.I have other pets that we will pull our files o and from this point forward finish our terrible services with Birchwood. If you love your pets.I would suggest you do the same. RID: 52895

Click to report rating    1/16/14   5     5     4     5   I've been going here for a few years, and I really like it. Everyone is friendly and I don't feel like things/products are pushed on me. My only complaint is that they often run late. RID: 49290
Click to report rating    12/12/13   2     2     3     1   I always had to call remind them that my dog needed her shots. Staff were insensitive. Clinic smells bad and this clinic overcharges for procedures. RID: 48735
Click to report rating    11/7/13   1     3     3     1   Do NOT take your rabbit here, We had such poor care there for our pet.The options went from you can try a medicine and if that dosn't work we'll try another one for maybe a different problem .We bought all the meds that they sugggested even thou you could tell the vet was very unsure of themselves. Six days later I called and said my bunny has not improved and is getting worse. The girl on the phone said we could come in again for a $50.00 re-chech appt. I explained we were just there and paid $160.00 for something thats not working, She could care less and said the Drs set the prices. She also told me the Vet that saw us is away from the office until next week. I explained that our bunny is worse NOW She said one other DR could but it would probabl cost anoth$71.00 The vet never told me there would be a re-check amt of aleast $50+ dollars to get the other prescibtion fromhim I feel very taken advantage of and completly ripped off. These people only care about the money and careless RID: 48120
Click to report rating    9/2/13   5     5     5     5   This is not my regular vet clinic. I was referred here for an ultrasound on my dog by my own vet. Dr. Schott was fabulous. He was very patient and showed me everything he was seeing. Although he had to give me bad news, I still appreciated the service we received. RID: 46695
Click to report rating    6/18/13   2     3     1     2   I brought my 3 month old puppy to Birchwood Animal Hospital for her first round of shots. I was told she would require a second round of shots in a couple months. I asked and was told i would be contacted when these shots were due. I received no notification whatsoever. After waiting 4 months i called to inquire. They couldnt tell me which shots she required and when they were due. They even asked me if i knew. Should this information not be on file at the clinic?? I then made an appointment to come in on a tuesday. After phoning back to confirm my TUESDAY appointment i arrived and was told my appointment was booked on their computer for wednesday and i would have to come back. Needless to say i have moved on to a more competent veterinary clinic. After reading some horror stories about this place im glad i did. RID: 43192
Click to report rating    6/11/13   5     5     5     5   Awesome vet, they really help a lot and answer questions the vets always call you back even if you think it's something small the people get to know you and remember your pets and I love that they have client pet pictures up for everyone to see makes you feel like your in a small family clinic even though its actually a very large place RID: 43072
Click to report rating    4/5/13   3     3     5     3   Moneygrabber! Quick to prescribe unnecessary treatment. Not very professional. RID: 41544
3/16/13   2     2     2     1   They billed me twice for the same procedure, but used different codes and then mailed me an invoice. I called about this to have it corrected I never received a corrected invoice, but instead plenty of statements with interest tacked on and phone calls threatening collective action. What kind of scam is this?? I have spent thousands on my animals and have no problem in doing so, but I refuse to be scammed like this. Buyer beware. Unethical billing practices!!! I will NEVER go there again!!! RID: 41115
Click to report rating    3/12/13   5     5     5     5   I have had nothing but great care at Birchwood for my dogs. Most notably, when tests revealed my dog had cancer, I was working out of town. Instead of leaving it to my family to tell me, the Vet phoned to give me the news and spent close to half an hour discussing my concerns and a plan of care. I was in Nunavut at the time. I will never forget that! RID: 41027
Click to report rating    9/29/11   3     3     3     3   09/29/11 On Sept 08 my beloved shihtzu had to be euthanased. Dr.Safinuk was on duty. I wanted privated cremation with ashes returned. I had $160 in cash and asked to bring back the remaining balance of 121.18 No problem I was told. Sept 14 went to clinic pd balance in full Asked about ashes advised can take up to 1 week twice weekly I called told each time ashes still hadn't come in. Finally on Sept 28 I demanded answers. to my HORROR discovered he was still in there fridge I went to the clinic and received paper that said Casper Cat that was it I took Casper to the crematory myself He was in a green garbage bag towel thrown over top inside a box. Dr.Schott reply when I spoke to him was all animals euthanised are placed ON HOLD till fully paid for. I again reminded him my bill was pd in full 09/14 all he could say was he was sorry it was a clerical error and he would of been found as the morgue is checked monthly. I questioned him on other pets. No respect or compassion CLINIC POLICY RID: 27978
Click to report rating    9/26/11   4     5     4     3   I have herd of many people going to this vet and have herd many horror storys about animals dieing under anastetic that were healthy and under routen surgery's along with that other story's of medications going very wrong. wouldn't recommend RID: 27900
5/16/11   3     3     3     1   I quit going to this vet after taking my long-haired cat for grooming about 2 years ago. I had to leave her all day, she was so doped up and smelled so strange that her own kitten hissed at her when she returned home. She slept for 24 hours. I had been told IF anesthetic was required I would be informed. I wasn't. I complained and was not charged for the grooming, but I was required to pay for anesthetic - for which I had never agreed. Her next grooming was at a pet store - no anesthesia, and I stayed with her. I also switched to Assiniboine Vets in Charleswood at a friend's recommendation. I would not recommend this vet based on this experience. RID: 25036
Click to report rating    11/11/10   4     5     5     3   I had to switch vets due to repeated misdiagnosis.Ok for routine shots, etc RID: 20808
Click to report rating    8/10/10   3     5     5     3   After 8 years there we have found lately that they rush diagnosis. We had to switch vets after major problems and bills. RID: 19147
Click to report rating    6/29/10   4     5     5     3   The front staff was always very nice and some of the vets I felt confident in their treatment but others I did not. I did not always feel like my concerns were being heard or addressed. I took one of my cats (3 yr old)in with a chronic mild stuffy nose. The illness that was never determined but he was prescribed antibiotics. He reacted poorly to the antibiotics but I was told to continue giving them to him when I reported the problem. From there his health went straight in the toilet and after several weeks he had to be euthanized. I left many appts without having my questions answered and no clear course of treatment only a hefty bill. I have since found another vet that I'm much happier with. RID: 18581
Click to report rating    11/28/09   5     5     4     4   The most important thing about any vet is that they care about giving the animals the best care. I have two dogs, and have gone to the vet's with concerns several times. All of the vets at this clinic are not only caring, but knowledgeable. I wouldn't go anywhere else. RID: 15484
Click to report rating    11/8/09   3     5     5     3   We have found the vets at this clinic to be competent when dealing with standard, day-to-day, issues. When confronted with something that requires problem solving or looking outside the box, they fall apart. This has affected us in two ways: one of our dogs was rushed out with a diagnosis of "allergies" when it was clearly not (fortunately, we found someone who probed further before it became a real issue), and another one of our dogs was pushed out the door with "kennel cough" - over the course of the next three weeks we dealt with them as she worsened, and was eventually (sort of) diagnosed with a rare disorder. Having been told medication could give her a normal quality of life, we held on, despite the fact she was clearly very sick. When we finally decided to give her peace, the vet we took her to was astounded we had been ever led to think there was any hope. We now go elsewhere. RID: 15244
Click to report rating    10/18/09   5     5     5     4   Dr. Schott and Dr. Robertson are fantastic. The clinic staff are great and love helping socialize your puppy. My older dog has had recurring eye issues and the vets have stayed current on treatment options and liaisoned with the ophthalmologist in Saskatoon for diagnosis and care. At the end of the day my pets receive better health care than I do. RID: 14877
Click to report rating    10/18/09   5     5     5     5   Highly recommended. I am comfortable with *any* of the vets here for my dogs. The staff is wonderful, vets will call you back, and will go above and beyond. Definitely one of the better practices in my opinion. RW. RID: 14854
