She saved my dogs life a few times already. Two weeks ago, I brought one of my cats to see her. This is after I took her to 3 other doctors. She diagnosed herpes and got her on the proper medication. Jesse is feeling a lot better. There are times I've had to wait for Dr. Bailey. This is usually because she is dealing with an emergency. I have no problem with that because I know she would do the same for my pet. She spends time with me, explaining what is wrong (even drawing pictures) and telling me a prognosis. She spends more time with me then my doctor! The front staff is great, always willing to help when I come with multiple pets. RID: 48269
Click to report rating    7/12/11   1     2     3     1   I had a young dog refusing to jump - would scream in pain. After $3,000 they told me they could not find a thing. Took her home and finally my family vet referred me to VCA Animal Referral on Country Club. They found in 2 seconds that she had torn her ACL severely and needed surgery. Terrible place with questionable staff. If you love your pet and know something is wrong, don't waste your money and time going here. RID: 26164
4/11/11   1     1     1     1   I found Janet Bailey to be a greedy prima donna. After I spent about 5 thousand dollars there (that's right, they're specialists at getting you to spend your $$), she KICKED ME OUT of the office for not FOLLOWING HER ORDERS. Literally. My dog had a serious reaction to a bad med. Bailey prescribed, so against her ORDERS I took my dog off the med's. When I told her this at the next visit, I was told to get out and never return for not following her orders. As if I was a slave, not a paying customer. Her tech. is a cold woman who seems nasty to everyone. Bailey also had useless tests done on two of my dogs (as I was told by other vets), and bad mouthed other vets I was going to saying I should only go to her instead. Dr. Church is no better. He didn't catch that my dog has a leak in her right mitral valve. He also charged me $100 for TRYING to take her blood pressure (he couldn't actually do it). RID: 24284
Click to report rating    3/7/11   1     4     3     1   Dr. Bailey seems to find the most expensive method to try to treat but doesn't seem to narrow down a problem. Her Tech Assistant, SAM,is AWFUL and does not seem to like the animals or her job. Our dog was taken for x-rays and couldn't stand up after this tech brought her back to us. ALL estimates from this doctor is at 1K or more for any type of treatment plan. She's supposedly an 'internist' for dogs/cats; even the medication we can get at our 'normal vet' is triple cost from this vet. We will NOT be taking any animals to her ever again. Believe vet & this office are more interested in how much they can get from distressed pet owners at a time of need for a loved animal. NOT recommended. RID: 23383
Click to report rating    3/7/11   1     1     3     1   I took my dog in to see Janet Bailey at the suggestion of my family vet. She had symptoms and a history of auto-immune issues. We spent over 2K on xrays and a sonogram. I now recall her saying that she may not be able to see anything on the sonogram due to my dog's size, but I feel they played on our emotions to push us to make this decision. The vet tech, Sam, mis-handled my very well behaved dog right in front of me - twice. The last time they asked to come in for a "tech check" and I refused as I did not want this woman alone with my dog. At one point I suggested that we could get some of the tests done at a more reasonable cost and this same vet tech told me that they would just charge me a fee to review them so I may as well get them done there. No review fee could equal the almost double cost estimate given by my personal vet versus what they suggested. This to me was a clear indication that they were in fact looking for money and not a solution to my dog's condition. RID: 23376
Click to report rating    2/20/11   4     4     4     1   I took one dog with a knee problem to Dr. Dixon. His manner was gentle and he took his time explaining the surgery he wanted to perform. My problem was no x-ray had ever been taken. I didn't see how he could recommend surgery with no x-ray, and I opted not to do it. I took another dog to Dr. Bailey with a lung problem. After 7 hours of tests ($$$), she wanted to anesthetize my dog and do a bronchioscope. My dog had not eaten in nearly 24 hours so I opted out of the test. She prescribed antibiotics but he did not improve. I took him back a 2nd time and she wanted to do more tests ($2,200 estimate). She said he either had valley fever or pneumonia. I said just treat my dog. He died 2 days later. If he had initially been treated with the same prescriptions as he was the last visit, I feel my dog would still be alive. RID: 23025
Click to report rating    2/6/11   5     5     5     5   I have a dachshund who suddenly slipped a disc in her spine causing her to lose all feeling in her hind legs making her unable to walk, all within a matter of hours. This was on a Sunday at about 4 pm. Dr. Dixon came in on a Sunday at about 8 pm to perform surgery on her that night in hopes she could walk again afterward. Considering the circumstances, I could have have asked for a better doctor for my dog. She was walking again just days later and is now healed and healthy back to herself. Thank you to Dr. Dixon and his staff!! RID: 22633
Click to report rating    7/17/10   4     5     5     4   My Tiny Himilayan had Stenotic Nares and surgery on that was a challenge because of how small her nose was. My Vet did not feel he had the surgical experiece to operate on such a small nose and reccomended Dr. Dixon at AZ Vetrineary specialists. He also saw it as a challenge but thought he could fix her. And he did. She is a much happier cat and can breathe so much easier. The monitored her and kept me updated all night as she recovered. Top notch care overall. RID: 18830
Click to report rating    4/5/10   5     5     5     4   Words cannot adequately describe the care and compassion that our boys receive from AVS. Dr. Riensche, Luke Morford and Shelly Shafer are the most wonderful people as well as professionals. We also have high praise for Dr. Felschle and Dr. Dixon. RID: 17382
Click to report rating    1/29/10   4     5     5     5   I must admit, from the reviews we read about Arizona Veterinary Specialists, we were reluctant to go to them even after two Vet's referred us to Dr. Bailey for our Pomeranian with Valley Fever. We finally went and were pleasantly surprised to find the bad reviews were apparently isolated incidents. Granted, the front office staff was a bit vanilla, but the Technician (Lucas) was amazing. And Dr. Bailey was also amazing. Both took the time to get acquainted with our dog (also, Lucas) and were very through in explaining everything. Dr. Bailey even drew pictures on a whiteboard to help us understand. Dr. Bailey never pushed any extra tests or exams. Just confirmed what we knew, clarified what we didn't, and emphasized which course of treatment would be the most beneficial. So, overall, just because a few may have had what they viewed as a bad experience, doesn't mean you will. RID: 16362
Click to report rating    3/20/09   1     4     3     1   Costs are outrageous & they are way too eager to do surgery. They have a boilerplate for each & every patient & don't truly take the time to do thorough exams. Found a phenomenal surgeon in north valley - very conservative with surgery options; super thorough exam; very enlightening with our pet's needs/concerns as a qualified surgeon/dr. should be. AVS did none of the above. They just herd you in, cut 'em open & charge you up the wazoo. If that surgery doesn't work, oh, they're happy to do it again. Nevermind how much they want to charge & there's no consideration for what trauma it causes to the pet OR that redoing it is NOT the problem. Also, the surgeon may or may not tell you if they completed the job & why. You may get to find out months later with a xray at your vet's office. The standard of care is questionable, at least in the surgery dept, & there are clearly little ethics. Don't be fooled. They are NOT the best. Look around-there are others & they are worth it. Click to report rating    11/2/08   3     5     4     3   We took our cat to Dr. Bailey at Arizona Veterinary Specialists (Internal Medicine) when referred by our regular vet. Dr. Bailey and the vet techs were great. I give the medical staff a rating of 5. Unfortunately, the front office staff was unfriendly and cold; I rate them zero. Extremely expensive. I understand they are specialists and was willing to pay for their expertise, but their costs were very high even when compared to other specialists for same service. For instance, an ultrasound was approx. $850 at AVS, but $440 at a veterinary internal specialist in Scottsdale. The location was perfect for us and Dr. Bailey is very highly respected in her field which is why we chose this specialty vet clinic. Too bad the front office staff is sorely lacking in warmth, concern, and compassion. My auto mechanic has far better customer service skills. RID: 10483
Click to report rating    1/20/08   5     5     4     4   Took our dog there that had liver problems as well as out cat. Were pleased with their clean facility, caring staff, and that they took time to answer questions and discuss options. RID: 7019

3/7/07   3     5     4     3   This is a very large facility that includes a variety of specialists and has emergency care. The facility is great, but each veterinarian is different. I've seen 4 different specialists over the years and would rate them and their staff differently. It also seemed the costs were exhorbitant in one area, but reasonable (considering they are specialists) in another. I believe they are corporate owned and billing is done under different names even though it's the same facility (E.g., The ophthalmologist billing statement states, "Eye Care for Animals". I'll try to rate them as individual veterinary clinic, so look for the name and not just the facility. RID: 2978
Click to report rating    12/10/06   5     5     5     5   I wrote the review on Arizona Animal Wellness Center. When one of our dogs had a situation that required a specialist, we were referred to AVS. We received outstanding service and our little guy has fully recovered from one of those "well, we've read about it, but this is the first case" conditions. The best in AZ. RID: 1217
Click to report rating    11/20/06   5     5     5     5   This is by far the best Veterinary place I have ever been to. The staff is wonderful...everyone genuinely cares about the animals. They have specialists from oncologists to internal medicine to dentistry. RID: 821
