Click to report rating    5/1/18   5     5     5     5   I have been a client of Kingston Rd. Animal Hospital since 1986 and I continue to use them even though I have moved out of the area and now make a 30 km round trip visit to reach the clinic. My 3 dogs and 2 cats have had exceptional care over the years. I have found Dr. Mitelman to be an extremely competent and caring vet. Last fall I believed my 16 yr. old Siamese cat had reached the end of her life; however with the correct diagnosis and treatment she continues to enjoy a very good quality of life. Arlene R. Click to report rating    12/12/17   5     5     4     3   Costs are steep - and the other doctors (not Dr Mitelman) may inflate those costs (so be watchful) BUT this remains a great clinic for me, thanks to the kindness and compassion of Dr Mitelman. He even went as far as home delivering a giant bag of dog food for us on a snowy night when we couldn't go out and pick it up. He's a kind, good guy. RID: 65198

Click to report rating    3/4/17   5     5     5     5   I have been with this clinic since it opened 30 yrs ago and been with Dr Mitelman since he began here. This clinic has always treated me with a great deal of professionalism kindness and understanding. My pets have all lived long into their senior years. I would go no where else! Dr Mitelman is great and extremely dedicated - he is a wonderful vet ! RID: 62914

7/5/15   3     3     2     2   Visiting this clinic was a pretty disheartening experience. Due to long waiting time during visits, lack of information, unnecessary costs, and trauma to my cat means I would never return to, or refer, this clinic My cat arrived at the clinic healthy and active but was experiencing some sneezing and discharge from one nostril. He returned home missing 2 teeth and unable to walk. The Dr. suggested I bring him in again and after another exam, pay for xrays and blood. I paid for blood work. Even though my cat is manageable and unaggressive, a week later, Dr. Mitelman described my cat, according to one of his staff who took him for weighing and taking temperature, as being feisty, difficult, scratching, biting and the cat 'did it to himself' re damaging his mouth and leg in trying to get away. Somehow, through all that, the staff member was able to cut his nails. Even though the Dr offered yet another exam and xray at his cost, I refuse to return to this clinic for anything. RID: 57636

6/18/15   5     5     3     5   I took my dog to Kingston animal hospital. I was referred by my vet to see a specialist. Dr. Jonathan Mitelman is probably the nicest, kindest, caring vet I have ever met! He was knowledgable and very caring to my dog. He even talked to me over the phone and e-mailed me to answer questions and talk about possible solutions before I even booked an appointment to see him! He didn't do any unnecessary tests. Btw my dog is doing great. I highly recommend this clinic and dr. Mitelman. Tbh it's a hospital, a specialist, it's pricey. The quality is worth the cost for your pet. RID: 57455

5/31/15   1     4     1     1   I wish I would have read the reviews for this place before taking my pet there. I was given a quote over the phone that was later doubled after they examined my pet. Losts of innecesary tests and extremely pricy pills. I should have gone with my regular vet. Avoid this place. If you go they will rip you off. RID: 57227

2/2/15   1     1     1     1   This is the second time I had to go to this clinic, I came on Saturday night with my sick cat with red eyes, they gave me an estimate for $2500 for a exam and keep her in their hospital, I am a nurse and I was familiar with the nature of this issue, eventually I left there and went to a real emergency clinic where treated her with an eye drop and payed $150 and she was OK in a few days.Later I tried to talk with the owner of the clinic but apparently the clinic is running by a company, very arrogant vets seems very stressed when I left the clinic.  1/31/15   1     2     2     1   They tried to charge me for a small wound on my dog's leg for $ 2000, lots of blood tests, ultrasound ,... I did the job on my own vet for $ 320. this clinic is a scam, do not go there. As I later figured out, all vets in this clinic are on commission base salary, the more they charge, the more they are payed. it is absolutely an unfair way to treat people and staff. RID: 55706

10/25/13   2     2     2     1   Tried charging me $800 for an x-ray and blood-work for my cat, and refusing to sign pet insurance, informing me that my cat was sick. I then took my cat to another vet to find out my cat had a sensitive digestive system and needed special food. That vet cost me $150. Don't waste your time and money to be scammed here. RID: 47867

10/2/13   5     5     5     3   These guys were great. Was it cheap? God no. But when the one-night stay turned into three due to her condition, I wasn't charged a cent more than the original quote. Over the course of my cat's stay with VETS/Kingston Road Animal Hospital, I experienced warmth and compassion during a stressful time (a LOT of which was Dr Mitelman), updates as to my pet's condition, wonderful care for her, and a cat who returned home in a surprisingly chillaxed state when I had been anticipating traumatized agitation after a 3-night stay at the vet. I appreciated everything they did, and my cat was clearly well-cared for! RID: 47348

Click to report rating    7/13/13   1     4     4     1   We took our cat to Kingston Road Animal Hospital because she had a slight sneeze and had gone somewhat off food/water/litter for a couple of days. Kingston Road diagnosed a heart murmur, fluid wave in her stomach, severe distension, and estimated over $1500 to determine what potentially serious issue she may have, blood work,x-rays, cytology-fluid aspirate,IV,and I thought, this isn't going to end there. The next day we took her for a second opinion to another vet.He gave her the same examination, healthy heart (no murmur) and lungs, healthy cat.Just gave us the option to do some geriatric blood work (not necessary, but our choice) to see if there was anything brewing that we should be aware of as she ages.We proceeded with the blood work, and the total bill including the examination was $265.We loved the environment. Also, they rate higher on this site (4.2).To be fair,Kingston Rd did suggest changing to soft food and that worked. The initial diagnosis seemed somewhat severe.  4/4/13   2     4     2     1   This place will rip you off! I will never be going back here again. They way over charged me and would never give a straight answer when I was trying to determine exactly what the estimate covered. Please stay away from this place. RID: 41522
3/25/13   5     5     5     5   I'm shocked by some of comments below. I recently took my cat in for the first time in an emergency situation and could not be happier with the care we received. Dr. Mitelman and all the staff were incredibly kind and compassionate. I received constant updates during my cat's 2-day stay and was able to stay and visit with him for hours. All of the staff seemed genuinely concerned and expressed a clear love of animals. I was clearly distraught and the staff went out of their way to show compassion and reassure me. They were also incredibly generous when working with me to determine the fees, which they knew were difficult for me. As I stated, this was an emergency and I simply went to the closest 24hr clinic available, but was so pleased with the service I received I have decided to switch to this clinic as my regular vet.  3/7/13   1     3     3     1   Either unscrupulous or incompetent. Like used car salesmen leveraging your concern for your pet to extract maximum profit. Kept saying my (generally healthy) cat could die if I didn't leave it overnight (for $1500). Told me visiting my regular vet the next day (in 6 hours) would be too late. Regular vet offered appropriate diagnosis the next morning. No treatment required. Cat was fine. When leaving, metaphorically strong armed my wife into signing a form saying we had declined treatment. How was that necessary? Just an attempt to induce guilt. Felt sorry for the assistant who seemed embarrassed by the behavior of the vet who had difficulty clearly communicating his thoughts. RID: 40908

1/24/13   1     1     1     1   Horrible. Ripe offs and didn't know what they were doing. Never stuck to their word. Never figured out what was wrong with my cat after 3 days and $2500. The kicker is the day that we decided to discharge my cat because there were no answers and no improvements despite test upon test the last test we agreed to do they called 1 hr after leaving the clinic saying that my cat passed away during a routine procedure. This was 6 days before the holidays over 1 yr ago. Came out of left field giving the fact that despite the fact that my cat couldn't keep down anything they said that he was in good shape for his age. Didn't expect to bring my precious cat home dead! Regretted keeping my cat there should have gone with my gut and went to the 920 yonge st. VEC b/c despite being pricey they know what they are doing and vet's across Canada refer to them for help. I still feel so guilty for leaving my cat at Kingston which cost him his life. RID: 39902

10/20/12   4     4     3     2   I switched to this vet office & would still take my cats here if still in Toronto. I had a consult with Dr. Mitelman & took questions to quiz him as I left a bad vet office staffed by people who were very uneducated when it came to animal health.. I find it hard to believe they were schooled. Dr. Mitelman was incredible with my cat on the first visit, answered all of my quiz correctly. Both Drs. Mitelman & Samson are quite knowledgeable, & what they don't know, they'll research. They also admit that you gave them good & new data. You can't beat having a vet who works WITH you. The support staff are so-so; they could refresh their people skills. The facilities are fine. Punctuality is not perfect; if there are emergencies with other animals, I'll wait! These vets care about the animals. Their pricing sucks. The bad vet office I left charged less, but this office has eqpt for immediate tests onsite & that made for less charges in some items like ultrasounds. I DO recommend these vets. RID: 37962

7/8/12   1     1     1     1   I will never bring my dog here again! This vet is horrible. I brought my dog here once when she was a puppy cause she vomited a few times. It was at night time. They told me they would charge $2000 to keep her over night to run some tests. I could not afford this and as I was leaving the vet put his hand on my shoulder and said " I just want you to know, This may be fatal" I was so worried up all night with my dog and in the morning she was perfectly fine running around. These people are money-grabbing dis-honest vets, with not good training at all!! Never bring your animal here! RID: 35527

12/22/11   5     5     4     4   I have been a client at this clinic since it opened 30 yrs ago and have always been treated well. On a routine visit Dr Mitelman pointed out a lump between Rileys toe which I had never noticed. Thought I was taking great care of my dogs!! Thank heavens for routine exams, it turned out to be a cancer!! The toe was quickly removed. Riley also had to have his eye removed after a long struggle trying to keep his vision intact. We tried many treatments for years, Dr M was always available to recheck and reassure me. This was very time consuming for myself and for the Dr but we tried to keep his vision intact as long as we could. When it came time Dr M moved quickly, the surgery went very well, Riley was home the next day. This was 2 yrs ago, he is now 15 yrs young. He did great. I have only the best of things to say about the care my dogs have always been given. I love my pets, they are my world. I am a single person, my pets are my family. RID: 30026

Click to report rating    4/20/11   3     3     1     1   I went into this vets like everybody else thought it looked dandy and all the bells and bows, however within minutes of being in there and after a barrage of questions which had nothing to do as to why I had gone in their in the first place. I was hit with an $800 bill which resulted in me spending the next 35 minutes asking what the heck they were charging me for. I left paying $380 for a blood test and urine test and still no answer to the other questions I had asked and feeling guilty because I would not cough up the other money for the tests they recomended. Needless to say I am now looking for a vet... RID: 24515

2/3/11   4     5     4     5   Patience, respect, love of animals is of prime importance in this clinic. Dr. Mitelman and Dr. Samson are true professionals who use their expertise in veterinary care & in their customers' emotional support to deliver the best care possible. At first I was concerned that the evening drs., whose English seemed stilted might not give my emergency needs the best care...however, I was WRONG!! All the staff working with the animals give them the same attention as I would. In conversation with the night drs. I discovered that they are highly qualified and truly enjoy their chance to work at this clinic. I will only leave my dear pets in this hospital as it provides 24hr. care. Other hospitals that have kept my ill animals leave them unattended at night and that is unacceptable to me as I fear that complications could arise and be missed. RID: 22556
1/31/11   5     5     5     5   I have been going to Kingston rd Animal hospital since I rescued my cat 3 years ago. When I was searching for a vet in the area I wanted to make sure I was choosing the right vet for the right reasons. I was amazed that a 24/7 emergency clinic was so close to my house. I was also amazed at the level of service and compassion that I received when I first went to the clinic. Being a new pet owner I was scared and nervous. With the support of Dr Mittleman and the staff at the hospital I am now confident in the care I provide for my cat. I am also pleasantly surprised in the level of care that my cat has received at the clinic. I would recommend this vet clinic to any of my friends and family. RID: 22498
Click to report rating    1/5/11   5     5     5     5   The emergency care at the Kingston Road Animal Hospital is unparalleled. Dr. Mitelman and Dr. Samson have treated my dogs for 5 years and I have continuously been more and more impressed with the level of care given to both me and my pets. I would (and have) recommend them to anyone anytime. In fact proximity to the clinic was part of my decision making process when buying my current home. One of my dogs has a number of chronic health issues and has been in better health under Dr. Mitelman's care than at any time in her life. I have found them to be understanding of my budget limitations and flexible in working out solutions that are best for my pets. Without exception I know that every decision, procedure and recommendation has been in the best interest of my pets and they have ALWAYS done everything possible and in a respectful way for both me and my pets. I admire and thank the Doctors and Staff of the Kingston Road Animal Hospital. My dogs are excited to go to the vet! RID: 21809
Click to report rating    12/14/10   3     4     2     1   I agree that all these doctors are intrested in is getting people's money. It is far mor important than keeping the owner happy. They do as many tests as possible at every visit even if they are not necessary. They don't monitor long-term effects of the meds they prescribe and just keep prescribing more just in case something works. They also have a high turnover of staff. This can't bode well for how they treat them. I can't imagine they can go on this way forever. RID: 21419
Click to report rating    12/12/10   5     5     5     5   Kingston Road Animal Hospital is home to the most courteous, friendly, and patient staff team that I’ve ever encountered. They have always treated my pets with undying care and expertise and they take the time to get to know their clients. My dogs are never afraid to go into the clinic (I wish I were as excited to go to the Doctor as they are to go to the vet!) as the staff show them love and affection from the second they arrive. Dr. Samson always takes the time to walk me through Baxter and Tucker’s procedures/prescriptions step-by-step; I never have an ounce of doubt that they are being honest and I know that my little ones are always in the best possible care. RID: 21377
10/18/10   1     3     3     1   I totally agree with all the previous comments about this clinic over-charging customers. I had to pay ridiculous fees for medicine for my cat and when I found out that by law they have to give you the prescription so you can get it filled else where they refused to give it to me. Never buy your medicine from the vet because you are being ripped off. Trust my review and all the previous ones as we are telling the truth about this clinic. RID: 20376
Click to report rating    9/4/10   5     5     5     5   In my opinion this clinic really practice very good medicine. My 14 year shihtzu got very sick and was collapsed, there is a tall veterinarian there, very polite and knowledgable I think his name was Dr. Memon saved my dog; he didn't asked me for expensive tests, all workup he did been justified and made sense to me. My dog stayed there for two days and came home happy & healthy. I would recommend this place to everyone by all my heart. RID: 19562
Click to report rating    7/1/10   1     3     2     1   Similar to previous comments, the facility never intend to provide the best care/treatment for your pet, they are out there to make deep profit, capitalizing on your love for your pet. I took my cat to Front St Hospital due to diarrhea. After $1,100 of "tests", was advised to transfer to Kingston Rd Vet. There they indicated my cat has lots of problem and a "big heart". The xray to confirm the big heart was quoted to be $500, when I finally pick up my cat, the bill ramped to $1,400. That's not all .... they indicated the thyroid requires operation when medication would suffice. The quote was $700, when asked for a written quote, it ballooned to $2,900. Yes, they are out to hit your wallet, not save your pet. Think again when going to these two facilities! RID: 18617
Click to report rating    1/7/10   1     5     3     1   I agree with everything said here. The clinic is very fancy with lots of unnecessary accessories I guess to entice people that it is a good clinic. They lied to me about my cat having an enlarged heart and wanted me to agree to having a $500.00 ultrasound on him. Needless to say I didn't. I got a second opinion and nothing is wrong with his heart at all. They are money grabbers and the clinic is a fraud. RID: 16048
Click to report rating    8/23/09   3     3     3     3   I found the service at this vet really good, except them giving you the most expensive alternatives and making you feel bad when you say you can't afford it. RID: 13968
8/11/09   1     4     3     1   I agree with the previous two assessents: they try to run every test imaginable and try to lay a guilt trip if you refuse. I got my dog from a very reputable breeder who gave me very thorough paper work on his initial health care. The first vet I saw here dismissed it immediately, questioned the breeders' methods and wanted to re-do his initial vaccines. I refused. The next vet I saw was incredibly smarmy and arrogant. It didn't seem to matter which doctor I saw, every time I'd go, they assumed something was wrong with my dog: he is small for his age but is healthy. Still, they'd want to order a batch of tests which in the end were unnecessary because NOTHING was wrong with my dog! Also, the receptionists were often slow, seeming to be more interested in playing with the pets than finishing your paper work and payment. I first came to this clinic 6 months ago - I will not be going back. RID: 13806
Click to report rating    4/30/09   1     2     1     1   They are VERY expensive. I brought a kitten to them a while ago and was expecting to pay about $150 for the whole visit (quoted over the phone for shots and exam). They just kept on doing more and more stuff on him WITHOUT even mentioning briefly how much $$$ they were adding to the bill. When they were through the bill topped $550. When I said that I had a daily withdrawl limit of $500 on the account and asked if I could pay the remainder the next day the receptionist stared at me as if I just robbed her till! The staff suddently turned from accomodating to JUDGEMENTAL! Bottom line: My kitten was healthy and if they were wanting to perform unnecessary procedures they should have at least asked me if I wanted them done in the first place. Apparently I am a bad owner for not being RICH. I will never go there again. BEWARE of Unplanned costs! RID: 12651
Click to report rating    3/27/09   3     4     4     1   They make you feel very guilty if you can't do every test possible for your pet no matter what. Very expensive. RID: 12263
