Click to report rating    11/22/17   3     3     4     1   I will put this very simply. I have just finished the letter that I will be sending to the College Of Veterinarians of British Columbia regarding Cats At Home. This is what happens when Dr. Susan Thompson threatens to call the SPCA on two extremely healthy and happy 9-year-old cats because we finally said NO to the "urgent" dental surgery that was recommended to us. The same "urgent" dental surgery that is recommended to us every SINGLE time we go. We fell for it for years, to the tune of literally THOUSANDS of dollars spent on dental surgery. After this threat we went to another vet, who very calmly opened my cat's mouth and removed the plaque with his fingernail. It came off, just like that. We were told that if the SPCA had come to our house, they would have laughed. So now I'm also going to contact the SPCA. About Cats At Home. RID: 65098
Click to report rating    6/6/17   2     3     3     2   High prices and not all necessary procedures. Older receptionist woman should go, very condescending, gives advise, and really doesn't know what she is talking about, every situation is different. Other Vet assistants are pretty nice and pleasant to deal with. The Receptionist should do want she is good at only be a Receptionist not a Vet. RID: 63846

5/26/15   1     1     1     1   I went to this clinic for my cat to have a check up and to get her micro-chipped. They fast talked me into a blood test (on a 2 year old healthy cat who had a blood test less than a year previous). It took four tries for them to get blood. On the last try my cat hissed a little as the needle went in and the vet proceeded to tell me I had a very difficult and aggressive cat and, according to the vet, because she was so 'aggressive' they would have to sedate her in order to micro-chip her, otherwise she could 'lash out' and be paralyzed by the needle. I paid well over $300 at that appointment, didn't even get a micro-chip, but got two estimates for a $900+ dental (for a 2 year old cat with sparkling white teeth!?) and an estimate for $340-ish dollars for a micro-chip, including sedation and overnight monitoring. BTW the micro-chip cost me $59 at another clinic, NO SEDATION REQUIRED, and when I talked about my experience here the other vet was flabbergasted. I do not recommend this place. RID: 57170

4/18/15   2     3     3     1   If you love your cat and have endless funds for treatment and over testing and don't mind the condesending 'my way or the highway' attitude of the vets, this vet is for you. If not, there are several other vets in the immediate area. If you do end up here, at least get a second opinion before spending a lot of money. I wish I had! RID: 56695

12/13/14   2     3     1     1   Very over priced, and seemed to us to be incompetent. We took our SPCA rescue kitten in for its first checkup. They overcharged us for an exam. Initially they wanted to refused to take the SPCA voucher for a free checkup, but eventually conceded after much convincing. The exam proved to be inadequate and missed a very obvious case of ear mites. Upon taking the cat to another vet two days later, ear mite residue was practically falling out out of the cat's ears. The other vet was surprised to hear that Cats At Home had even performed an ear flush as the kitten's ears were filthy. Cats At Home provided an ineffective ear flush, told us there were no ear mites (when there very obviously were,as the next vet we went to actually showed us them under the microscope) and overcharged us for the privilege. Also, they neglected to mention they would be closed for a special event during the time they asked us to bring in a stool sample. Overall: Not a good experience. RID: 55009
Click to report rating    2/8/14   2     1     3     1   I came here because my cat has an undiagnosed skin issue that my other vet could not cure. The initial appointment was astronomical in price and yet the vet spent only 5 minutes checking my cat! They made me go get my cat's carrier so she wouldn't be "stressed". I know my cat and she is not like the rest, she would much rather explore on her leash or sit in my lap, but they didn't listen to me when I tried to explain. I told them she did not like other cats but they could not accomodate as the exam room is with the sick cats! All they did was cover my poor cat's eyes, which made her more uncomfortable. The receptionist called me the next day to see how my cat was doing. In my opinion, this is way too soon. My cat is not on her deathbed, there was no need to urgently call me and I feel as though they were just making sure I was coming back to buy the food they recommended that only they sell. As much as I wanted a second opinion, I now feel guilty for leaving my old vet in Brookswood. RID: 49717
Click to report rating    11/2/13   3     5     5     3   too expensive, at least double or triple costs compared to other vets. be very cautious, get other opinions from other vets before spending big money here! RID: 48026
Click to report rating    10/17/13   4     4     4     1   They are pretty good at what they do - and I have been going there for 5 years - but I have had to stop going as their prices are just too high. Dr Thomson has an ok bedside manner. Sure she is not overly touchy feely but some people on here are too critical. She can be blunt for sure, but whatever....it is the quality of the care (and cost) that matter. Anyway if they read this review...you guys are great but in the age of the internet and competition, I would revisit your pricing after checking out what your quality competitors provide RID: 47675
Click to report rating    6/24/13   5     5     5     5   I have been a “Cats at Home” client since 2006, and I am so thankful that I found them! Dr. Thompson and her husband Jim care for my cats with as much love and concern as they do their own. “Cats at Home” feline hospital provides a calm and reassuring environment for every visit, no matter how minor or serious the situation at hand. They are a professional team, from the reception desk to the trained assistants, everyone has grown to know and handle my cats with the utmost care, always keeping in mind their distinct personalities and specific needs in order to make each visit as relaxing as possible for them. Dr. Thompson's advice has always been invaluable to their well being, and I trust her impeccably. You will be made to feel like one of the family when you come, and taken care of with the highest levels of customer service and respect. RID: 43283
Click to report rating    6/24/13   5     5     5     5   I have been taking my kitty to Cats at Home for about 6 years and find them to be excellent caring professionals. She has had a lot of tests and procedures but they were done with love and expertise. They monitor all vital signs during sedation and even take the kitties home with them if they need, at no extra charge. They are always there for me to help with her care whenever I need them (even when I ask stupid questions or do things that they have not okayed). I would recommend them highly and will continue to have them care for my kitty as I feel Dr. Thompson is the best doctor around and I want my kitty to have the best. Her staff is also excellent. It can be expensive at times, but you get what you pay for and there you get the best care for your pet. They even allow me to call them at home on weekends if my kitty has a problem and always respond back to me if I have to leave a message. I feel they have given me more time with my kitty in the long run and appreciate it. RID: 43279
Click to report rating    6/17/13   2     2     3     3   High staff turnover speaks volumes at any business. They are expensive and despite good medical care for your cat, have an inability to interact respectfully and with tact towards human beings. Lots of other options in this area - do your research. RID: 43177
Click to report rating    1/21/13   1     1     1     1   I recently called this vet regarding my 12 year old tabby cat that I've had half my life. I am worried about her overal health due to her coat being matted and hard mats at that... I used to take her to a surrey vet but since reading reviews decided that was a no go! I called cats at home and he told me since surrey animal hospital lost my cats file they could not gaurentee she was rabies free. He then decided to tell me on the phone and was well aware I'm upset about her already, that if she was to bite she will be euthanized and have her brain cut open for testing . I cried on the phone and told Him his lack of compassion was completely unprofessional for the type of work he was in. He apologized called me 3 times to apologize but still, the situation will never Ben rectified enough to take my cat to someone who would so Barbaricly treat my cat like she was nothing. As she is sick I could not gaurentee she would not bite but coil gaurentee she has no rabies- apparently not enough. RID: 39796
Click to report rating    12/24/12   1     3     1     1   I concur with most of the other ratings. We paid $5000 for many procedures, test etc that we found out later any other vet would not have done as they were completely unnecessary. Try Dr. Ohm down the street in the Brickyard RID: 39233
9/6/12   4     4     3     4   I was pretty happy with this vet. It was good to see that everything is done honestly and properly. My last vet wouldn't give me my records and did stuff that I think is dishonest. RID: 37041
Click to report rating    8/30/12   3     2     2     3   This doctor is very knowledgable about cats but is NOT a feline specialist (not board certified in feline medicine). She has a short fuse and is very disrespectful to staff. Facility is very small with no option for private discussion. Older woman at reception talks to clients as if they are two-year olds. I could afford to pay their more expensive rates but would rather have my cats cared for by more professional, caring people elsewhere. Parking is also a nightmare at this location. RID: 36904
Click to report rating    3/22/12   4     4     3     1   The receptionist was very nice, and the Dr. seemed nice too but we were talked into a lot of testing and their fees were way higher than any other vet we've been to. Needless to say, we left their clinic and never went back. RID: 33071

Click to report rating    7/11/11   2     3     1     1   This vet quoted me $1000 more than another vet to extract two teeth from my cat. I was also gouged for the exam, which I had already done at another vet's clinic and unfortunately had moved from the area prior to the surgery. I actually thought of driving 5 hours back to that vet to get the surgery done, as I believed that vets must be that much more expensive here. The front office staff was very friendly, but the vet very much pressured me into to signing up for the 'program'. Needless to say, I went to the cheaper vet and had awesome service there. RID: 26143
Click to report rating    4/17/11   2     3     3     1   Phoned to get our diabetic cat in for boarding. The longer we stayed on the phone the more the price went up. After an hour of back and forth calls we were at $600 for 5 days. Our cat is now staying at the Four seasons for that price. Kidding aside, we found a great place for half the price without all the extra testing and procedures they wanted to do. Will never be back again. RID: 24456
Click to report rating    12/28/10   1     2     1     1   I took my cat here thinking I was taking her to the best vet, because they specialize in cats. Everytime I took her in I waited 30-45 minutes and don't even appologize for being late. They pressure you to do constant tests even though my cat seemed healthy. I think all they want is your money and I would never advise anyone to go to them! RID: 21628

12/7/10   1     1     1     1   The vet is very rude and treated us like crap when we came in. Shes not even actually specializing in cats, as in she hasn't gone to school to be a cat specialist and she is claiming to be one. And yes they have absolutely astronomical prices!! Especially for someone who hasn't gone through extra schooling RID: 21306
Click to report rating    11/25/10   2     2     3     2   Dr Hollingshead was good, no longer there. Dr Thompson is a bully, verbally abusive to staff in the presence of clients. Not a place I could recommend. RID: 21074
Click to report rating    9/11/10   5     5     4     5   We became clients of Dr. Thompson just over a year ago. Our cat was gravely ill with a very serious health issue that other Vets had overlooked for a long time. We knew of Dr. Thompson and we elected to make the long drive to take our kitty to Cats at Home. We were not optimistic that our girl was going to make it, we thought it was too late to save her. We were heartbroken. Well, after spending 4 days of around the clock intensive care with Dr. Thompson (who took out kitty home with her at night because she is set up at her home for critical care/special needs patients) our kitty did pull through! I can say emphatically that it is because of Dr. Thompson's care. We don't go to her for her personality, we go to her for her knowledge, for the love she shows out kitty, and because our kitty receives the best possible care. There is no question that Dr. Thompson saved our beloved cat and has given us more time with her. RID: 19694
Click to report rating    7/17/10   2     5     4     2   The receptionist is lovely as are the facilities. However, I was extremely offended by Dr. Thompson who tried to bully me into spending hundreds of dollars on the spot for her to monitor my cat's diabetes for 3 days. This is something I need to plan for and I will not decide on the spot. I have to say they exams are very thorough but regular exams and annual shots for 2 cats cost $600. Dr. Hollingshead was very kind but I will not go back after Dr. Thompson's treatment of me as a client. RID: 18835
Click to report rating    7/3/09   1     1     1     1   TERRIBLE! I could complain all day but here is my main list: Wife is the vet, husband is an assistant-they fight like crazy in front of you and seem angry throughout the appointment(s). This happened many many times for us. VERY unprofessional and makes you feel awkward even being there. Staff look uncomfortable too by the situation. Clinic is very small, no actual exam rooms, and you can hear everything that goes on in the back (despite the fact that they don't seem to think so...or maybe don't care). The vet is rude, seems annoyed to be there and they will gouge your pocket book more than any vet I have ever seen!! I highly DO NOT recommend this clinic to anyone. So many better options out there!! RID: 13382
Click to report rating    6/6/09   5     4     4     4   Great care at this clinic - they know cats. At times, they can seem to "over-recommend" things to do for your cat, and if money were no object, would agree. You might sometimes feel pressured but know it's only because they want the best for your cat. But overall, very open, honest, caring veterinarian practice. Have been taking my cats here for almost 8 years and will continue to do so - driving more than 30 minutes to get there. Can also recommend Fraser Valley Emergency Clinic as an alternative - very comprehensive care there. Remember - YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR - if you want substandard care, go to a cheaper clinic. If you want proper care, go to Cats at Home. It is as much our responsibility to look after our animals as it would be for an infant - so do not shirk your duties as a pet owner. If you can't afford veterinarian care, you should NOT own a pet. RID: 13078
