Our cat suddenly fell very ill, we knew she was on her way out, we tried to bring her to our regular vet however he wasn't taking emergency cases, even for euthanasia. We explained everything to the vet and how uncomfortable she was looking and acting and were ready to put her to sleep to ease her pain only to be told by the vet "She's not dying, she's sick yes but she's running around and looking good, she's not dying she just needs fluids and we can treat her" and proceeded to provide a quote for all sorts of tests. 30 minutes later we get a call. The liver is failing, kidney problems and her heart affected as well. Not only we were left with a bill for teatments that were unnecessary but while we had accepted what we thought was inevitable before going and were prepared to put her to sleep, but being after being given false hope it make her passing even more "Sudden and unexpected" and traumatic RID: 70028
Click to report rating    2/6/19   5     5     5     5   Love this animal hospital! Every visit is a pleasant one and I always leave feeling not only confident in the medicine provided to my pet but also educated myself! My dog Sheena loves playing with their clinic cat Zeus during our visits. The entire veterinary team is professional, compassionate and it's obvious that they truly have a passion for what they do! Sheena is so comfortable and happy to see them everytime. Highly recommend Herongate Animal Hospital! RID: 67321
Click to report rating    2/27/17   5     5     5     5   Dr Draboo is an amazing doctor. I was felt very uneasy taking Suzie into a vet, as she is very nervous and doesn't like to be touched. Dr. Draboo made Suzie feel very comfortable, she was very gentle & loving. Dr Draboo and her staff are amazing. They answered all my question and put me at ease. You will be my vet for life. Thank you once again. RID: 62850

4/26/16   5     5     4     5   We'd like to thank you Dr. Draboo , your staff for the kindness and time you have taken in the care of our pet cat "Oscar"... The dedication to the Caring & Loving of your patients, our pets is remarkable. Never in all our visits, were we ever rushed and everyone of our questions always answered. Your caring support was greatly appreciated and knowing "Herongate Hospital" truly cared. Impressed .. also by the checkup phone calls directly from Dr.Draboo & staff to check out how "Oscar" was doing, during this difficult time. Thank you for the wonderful care and compassion you have given to our beloved Oscar, and to our family. You all are the BEST of the BEST!! RID: 60400

10/31/15   5     5     5     5   When Dr. Draboo took over at Herongate, I was a little nervous about what that meant for my Angel. I had an established relationship with the previous Vet & we had a plan to manage Angel’s epilepsy. So I approached the new owners with skeptic caution, ready to uproot my canine family if things didn’t go well. But they did go well! After hours Dr. Draboo would research & consult colleagues about new treatments and epilepsy. Slowly we changed Angel’s medical regiment & improved tenfold her quality of life. I am grateful for the dedication Dr. Draboo has for her patients; without a doubt their well-being is her first priority. Every barrier we encounter she's willing to help us through. From staying late to accommodate us to payment plans & yes even discounts, all part of the quality care we have received. Recently we lost our Angel but I couldn’t have asked for a better Vet team then the ladies at Herongate, who continue to care for the other members of my canine family. RID: 58847

10/23/15   5     5     5     5   I have taken my dog to Dr.Draboo at Herongate Animal Hospital ever since I moved to Ajax. Every time, Dr.Draboo was very helpful and concerned about my dog, Coco and always provided a solution that was always in Coco's best interest. She is very friendly and always keeps us in the know on issues related to Coco's health. She even went out of her way to make sure everything was in order for Coco's move. The staff was helpful and I would definitely recommend Dr.Draboo and Herongate Animal Hospital to anyone. RID: 58769

9/21/15   5     5     5     4   I have been taking cats and dogs to this clinic for at least 15 years. There have been different vets working there and I have not had an issue with any of them. Until now, my pets have not had any serious problems, but now we have a cat with chronic kidney disease. The bills can really mount up but we have come to an understanding of just how much we are able to do. I get regular calls at home to see how the cat is doing and everyone is always very supportive and caring. There have even been times when certain fees have been waived RID: 58480

9/13/15   1     1     1     1   The previous owner Anne was 10X the vet Dr. Draboo will ever be!!! I so regret ever taking my cat back after Anne retired. Dr. Draboo has NO bedside manner, treats her staff like garbage, is quite ignorant and has absolutely no people skills whatsoever!!! I took my cat in for dental surgery and was promised a discount on antibiotics... She argued the fact after the surgery - something that was clearly in black and white - I also don't think she did a thorough Check on his bloodwork prior to surgery like she said she did... As not even a week after surgery my cat became extremely ill.... I took him back to her and she prescribed a pain killer???? Trusting my instincts I took him to a much more capable intelligent vet whom advised that he had a MAJOR infection and kidney problems things that should have been picked up on before his surgery. Would I recommend this clinic or ever darken their doorstep again? NOT FOR ALL THE MONEY IN THE UNIVERSE! And I suggest you don't either!!! RID: 58378

6/26/14   5     3     1     1   The previous owner Ann was an excellent vet recommended by the breeder of my dog. The new vets treat their staff like slaves eg. "get the mop in here". The have no shame and are stupid to do this in front of there clients. My dog is elderly (14 years old) when that dreadful day comes that last place I will take her will be to a please with no compassion and vets with $ signs in their eyes. By the way where are all the wonderful staff that worked for Ann? RID: 52285
Click to report rating    3/21/14   1     3     1     1   I left and took all of my dogs file with me. The last time I was there with my dog she has an upset stomach, had soft stole and a bit of vomiting. They decided to check her rectum by doing an internal BUT they didn't stop there, the male doctor perform four internal while I was holding my female and then call is partner and then she perform also two internal, at this point my dog was crying in pain, tear running out of her eyes, which it had never seen a dog tearing out of pain, it was shear torture for my dog. I have been a customer of this clinic from there first building on hwy two Kingston rd some thirty years ago, and when Ann the original owner sold the clinic I stayed one and give a try with the new owner, they are not vet but butcher, has no compation for the animal and no respect for their staff. The employer are treated has servent or slave, being yell at in front of customer and their price are off the chart. I could mustard an other day there with my dogs. RID: 50611
1/1/14   1     1     1     1   terrible vet.I took my dog there and the female vet was very rough and mean. She has no manners and treated her staff terrible. I was embarrassed for the staff the way she talked to them. I thought at first I misheard what she had said ti one of her girls until she again said something very demeaning to another one. Do not go there. They should have their licencse pulled. I will never go back. The male vet is ok but the femaile vet needs to find another occupation. RID: 49020
Click to report rating    12/17/13   5     5     5     4   We took our two new kittens to Herongate for a checkup and some routine testing. Dr. Draboo was very pleasant and helpful and showed genuine concern for our cats. We had some previous concerns based on poor ratings from around the 'net, but some quick research indicated that most of these were based upon a previous vet/owner who retired in 2012. We'll give 5 points each for Staff (who seem very nice), facilities (which seem modern) and punctuality (they saw us 10 minutes early). Only a slight deduction for monetary value as some of the medications were expensive - but within the realm of what I would expect any other vet would have charged. RID: 48829
11/6/13   1     1     1     1   Horrible Vet clinic.Never been more disappointed, Dr. was so rude. took my cat there after i noticed something was wrong with her The vet charged hundreds just to look at her, cut her open to drain infection, and left it.nothing else was done. paid alot of money for pain medication and antibiotics to give her. not even a week later the wound was WORSE, i took my cat back and the vet tried to put blame on me and if i didnt put her down she would report me. WHy would i spend HUNDREDS of dollars only to not follow direction and hurt my cat, i am paying HUNDREDS of dollars because i CARE and want to save my cat. took her to another vet for a second opinion and got an amazing Dr. who told me my cat was perfectly healthy and beautiful and she was going to save her. she performed surgery, gave meds and did it all for an amazing price - also get a free check up a week after unlike the HeronGate who was going to charge almost 100$ for a followup! RID: 48105
Click to report rating    10/10/13   5     5     5     5   I have been a client of this clinic since 1991. I paid my first visit to the clinic since Dr Ann retired, with the oldest of my 4 cats, who has Chronic Kidney Disease. We saw the female vet and she was very nice & very gentle with my cat and her knowledge seemed very good. However, we did agree to disagree on his diet. Blood tests were done to check the status of his CKD. Because I thought he might have abdominal pain and had recently been constipated, an xray of his abdomen was done. The vet called me when she got the blood test results the next day, they showed that his CKD was not much worse in the 1 1/2 years since his last blood tests. His xray had only shown that he was quite fat so we discussed his diet again but disagreed on what to feed him. I was impressed that they prescribed his glucosamine supplement over the phone without seeing him, several times. I plan to see the male vet next visit who worked with Dr Ann for 6 mths prior to her retirement. RID: 47554
9/16/13   1     3     1     1   This used to be our vet for our dog and cat. They are never on time, over book, and my dog didn't like going there. The new vet is nothing like Ann was. We've gone elsewhere. They did bloodwork, expensive food diets etc then tell me my dog suffers from depression hundreds of dollars later. RID: 46978
Click to report rating    9/3/13   2     3     3     1   I've been taking pets to Herongate for almost three decades. Now that Anne has retired, my first few visits were very dissapointing for all of the reasons listed in the reviews below. I am changing Vets for my dog and two cats. RID: 46708
Click to report rating    5/19/13   2     2     3     1   My first visit since clinic changed hands was not a good one. Some staff have left which tells me lots about the working conditions. Vet did not seem to know that cats need wet food not kibble because she recommended a prescription kibble and to take away any canned food he was getting. Unnecessary test done that showed absolutely nothing. Blood test results proved his condition hadn't changed since his last blood work done 1 1/2 years ago so I did not understand the insistence on kibble for his diet. I'll be looking for a new vet as other old clients have. Visit was expensive especially with unnecessary xray. Things have definitely changed at this clinic since Dr Ann retired. RID: 42583
Click to report rating    3/10/13   5     5     5     5   I went on recomandation from my friend and had my cat neutered, They were all supportive as it was my first pet, gave me a lot of information and written too. I will recommend them to my friends RID: 40969
1/30/13   1     3     3     1   It is so true since the vets changed hands from Ann this place has gone downhill. All they want is your money they do not look after the pets properly as their first priority is the cash.... RID: 40032
Click to report rating    10/19/12   1     3     2     1   The secretary told me that I looked fat while I was 8 months pregnant. They lie about the fees until after you have that service, then they charge more. The secretaries are ****y, condescending and think that they are vets too. Total waste of time and money. I reported them to the better business bureau. PS. THE POSITIVE COMMENTS ARE FROM THEIR OWN EMPLOYEES TO BOOST RATINGS RID: 37945
Click to report rating    9/24/12   2     2     2     1   I agree, I used to visit also and now I am looking elsewhere. I don't like being taken advantage of. Doctor plays on the fact we Love our pets and expect us to pay a fortune. Was never like this before they changed hands. RID: 37395
Click to report rating    8/13/12   2     3     2     1   I used to love this vet, recommended to friends, been a customer for over 15 yrs. Recently the vet changed hands and now is all about MONEY! this has changed from you put your pet down you got a card signed by everyone in the office to thanks for the money and additional charges. Find another vet, cause we all are! RID: 36469
Click to report rating    6/14/12   5     5     5     5   Have always had a good relationship with this clinic. They even suggested home remedies one time rather than the expense of over the counter meds. Worked great, will always recommend them RID: 34975

6/26/11   5     5     5     5   I have been using this clinic for 20 years for all of my cats and dogs. I have never had a bad experience using this vet, nor have I been overcharged, more likely undercharged. I have always been offered choices for any surgery, or treatment and referrals to specialists for surgery or to get a second opinion. I never felt forced to make any decision, one way or the other. For every procedure performed on my various dogs and cats over the years, I was given a full explanation of what was to be done and a choice if available. There was a period a few years ago when the vet/owner was practicing out of another clinic and hired other vets to run this clinic who I found put $$$ ahead of the animal. I followed the vet/owner to the new practice as I wanted a vet who put animals ahead of $$$. Fortunately the vet/owner came back to this clinic and discontinued her other practice and the use of the other vets. The clinic staff are caring, experienced and knowledgeable. No complaints at all! Click to report rating    11/8/10   2     2     2     1   these people are money grabber's my daughter took her dog there and very surprised at attitude more interested in her bank account than health of dog sent dog for tests came back negative then they decide dog may have cancer and guess what more money I don't think so RID: 20736
Click to report rating    5/17/10   5     5     4     4   Not sure about the above comment... sounds like you didn't want your pet properly vaccinated to me. Herongate wouldn't force you to do anything you didn't want. I've been using them for YEARS and they are so kind and caring. Anyone who has had a dog would know that anal glands need to be expressed more than once, if you see them scooting their bum it's time to be done! Love Herongate and the staff, can't say enough good things! RID: 17977
Click to report rating    1/9/09   1     3     1     2   In Toronto our puppy had his distemper and parvo. In Ajax he went for his rabies and he was also given distemper (should NOT have got another distemper we only asked for rabies). Today he went to get fixed I was just told he needed 2 teeth removed today also – yet he was at the vet 2 weeks ago and had his teeth checked and his glands excreted yet no mention then of needing removed. Today as I took him to get fixed they made me make the decision pronto to have his teeth removed I felt very unprepared to make such a decision without research. My dog STILL needed his glands excreted 2 weeks later as they did not do right. Customer service in prepping owners is non existant. This place is far too eager to take ur $$$'s & too busy to sit an owner down and walk them through the process their pet will be going through. U rarely get a person on the phone usually it is their voice mail & then someone calls U back. Do yourself a favour – do NOT see this vet. Very disturbed by this vet clinic RID: 11118
