Dr. Crofts was extremely dismissive and rude towards me and towards my dog, who she didn't acknowledge at any point during our visit. She "pulled out a couple teeth" but apparently left the roots in! My dog's roots got infected as diagnosed by another vet (I saw the Xrays) and he had to pull out those roots. Dr. Crofts is utterly incompetent, disrespectful and would rather spend her time flirting with a male client in the waiting room than give my dog the time of day, or proper veterinary care. This infection could have led to an organ infection! Will never go back.

Grossly over inflated pricing. They charge for every little thing and detail. Have had dogs for over 40 years will not use Richmond Animal Hospital again. It is so unfortunate that so many vets take advantage of our emotional attachments to our pets and exploit their prices accordingly. Not all but a lot.

Vets are ok, punctuality is not great. Waiting space is cramped. The customer service from the admin staff is varied. Some are quite good, while others could use improvement (don't communicate to you when you are waiting to pay or see a vet because they are busy or ???) The services here are seriously overpriced. I was charged $70 plus tax for a 10 minute consultation for an ear infection. I had told them over the phone when booking the appt that it was an ear infection, which I would have assumed they would have booked a short appt for since it is a recurrent sort of thing. But maybe $70 is the price for a short appt?? The consultation plus meds (15 ml bottle of antibiotic) added up to $140. Price gouging I think. I won't be going back as it seems that with a quick internet search, I can find a vet at a more reasonable price. Bye bye Richmond Animal Hospital.

Dr.Crofts wasn't thorough at all during the meta exam: no eye checkup, no ear checkup. Just asked a few questions about diet and litter box. Very brief for an exam charged more than 50 dollars. Plus we went for a condition regarding my cat's paw - another 50 dollars. Total time spent was around 10 minutes and nothing was solved. Half-assed attitudes. Long wait before and after appointment. No proper breakdown of what they charge for on the receipt. Total cost? $117 for ten minutes. Wasn't worth traumatizing my cat. Won't be seeing her again.

I like the staff here however their prices have been going through the roof. They told me that cats shouldn't eat raw because it is just like a person eating raw... uh, we aren't carnivores! Cats have short digestive tracts to handle raw meat and it's what cats eat in the wild. What they are meant to eat. That was outrageous. Their back rooms with sick pets look like they're from the 50's and haven't been updated since. One cat they wanted to test for FIV/FeLV, the cat had already been tested a year ago. They only decided against it when I pointed that out. They then kept the cat overnight without a lot of discussion for other options like taking fluids home. They also wanted to give me prescription food for a cat when its urinalysis came back normal. Prescription food is NOT a cure-all unless the cat has a pH imbalance. REALLY question what they are suggesting, if you think something's unnecessary save that 500+ dollars for when it's really needed.

I only visited this place a couple of times, not planning to go back. The dr and staff are polite and seems like knowledgable. One thing that bothered me was that one staff picked up my dog, which initially I thought he was gonna pet her, and I was fine with that, my dog loves stranger and I don't mind the staff being friendly. But then he dispeared to the back for about 10mims with my puppy without asking my permission.... I sat at the waiting area anxiously by myself, I didn't see my puppy again until he took me to the exam room. And the vet was there with my puppy. Maybe because I am a new parent, I found it was very uncomfortable that someone just took her away without asking for permission.

The veterinarians at this clinic are very good as well as the staff. Its unfortunate though that the customer care of office management is severely lacking. The prices are being raised higher and higher making this clinic ridiculously higher in cost than other veterinary clinics with the same level of care. After being with the clinic for over 12 years, i raised my concerns to the office manager who very rudely told me that they're actually thinking of increasing the prices even more to go somewhere else then. Nice, after being a loyal customer for over 12 plus years.

This place is a rip off, avoid it like the plague. They quoted me last year for dog teeth cleaning for over $1000. I just got a second opinion last week. This vet said my dog did not need his teeth cleaned. It would be five minutes of work to clean. Dr. Crofts also told me my dog's heart murmur progressed from a stage 2 to stage 4 in three years. This new vet said he is stage 2 at most. These people take advantage of people's love for their pets. Unfortunately some people get pressured into doing what they say and pay it. Avoid this place and save yourself some money.

BAD BAD PLACE. The only thing they are good at is maximizing the bill you pay. They told me my dog have infection due to tartar buildup. But my dog just had her vaccine a month ago. Everytime I go in they charge me a bill for heath check. Won't they detect such infection during the health check? I complained to them and the answer I get is that my pet would not let him check thoroughly so he might have missed out. WHAT KIND OF ANSWER IS THAT!!! The solution they gave me was an operation that costs $1200 to remove my dog's upper and lower teeth. She is only 5 years old and already removing her teeth. Antibiotics Richmond animal hospital sold me may be able to cure the infection. But instead, they scheduled the operation the following day after they sold me the antibiotics. THEN WHAT IS THE POINT OF ANTIBIOTICS. So I could pay more? All I want is the health of my dog no matter how much it cost. But paying $1200 to remove her healthy teeth is definitely not the case!

Avoid this place! Not only was the facilities a little run-down, Dr Ricky Lis treated my cat, who had urinary tract infection. They kept my cat in for an overnight visit (which I objected to) - to me that was unnecessary was a ploy to charge me $ b/c nobody was there at night anyway! They gave my cat one type of antibiotic - and 10 days + one hefty bill later my cat still had the infection. So they switched & put my cat on another antibiotic - I asked why was the first one not working? They said they didn't know which bacteria strain it was, so it was A TRIAL AND ERROR PROCESS in the beginning - they gave my cat an antibiotic, didn't work so they try another one. Yeah this came the vet himself! If the 2nd antibiotic didn't work they'll give her another one? WTF is this?? Animal testing when I pay $1000 for them to take care / cure my sick cat? He seemed more interested in hitting up a conversation w/ me + taking my $ then helping my poor sick kitty! AVOID AVOID!

The charges are a bit on the high side. Staff are knowledgeable. They have different vets who specialize in different animals so be sure to know which one are suitable for your kind of animals. The facility is okay but not the best.

I brought my dogs to Dr. Michael Schaufele for many years, he is very kind and attentive. But in the past few years, their fees kept going up and up... I don't know why. I like Dr. Michael but because of the price hike, I will need to go somewhere else because I can no longer afford the enormous vet bill.

This vet charges way too much for his services compared to other vets in the area. Before he took over this vet office, the prices were very reasonable and service impeccable. He tries to upsell everything which then brings the costs up and for somebody that doesn't know any better, not a very good experience. Definitely shop around for the services and as it is true, you get what you pay for, just look around.
