I just took my pet to the vet to get her rabies shot and tag. When we made the appointment we said it was just for the shot. When I arrived I told the vet receptionist I did not want an exam, just the shot. (Our dog had an exam by this vet 6 months ago.) In the exam room I again told the vet's assistant that I did not want an exam, just a shot. I overheard the asst. tell the vet I did not want an exam. He did an exam anyway. Then the staff handed me a bill for $65, which included $39 for office visit and exam. I explained I did not want the exam -- she said the vet had to do the exam in order to give the rabies shot. I knew she was healthy - she's an indoor yorkie, always in my site when outside. I contacted animal control to see if the exam is a requirement of St. Charles County or the state? They said NO, an exam is NOT necessary for the shot. The vet is a good doc but is expensive and is always 20 or more minutes late.
