Moved from Toronto and switched to this vet. Overall impression is he is an old-school vet with high Rd prices. Seems a little out of date on his research as he still advocates large breed dogs be spayed/neutered very early. Seems to think sex hormones are useless in dogs. Also not great with positive reinforcement and advocates restraining young dogs during their visits. Price for routine medications (optic/ottic antibiotic preparations, flea/tick treatments, etc) is also far too high. All are 30-40% cheaper at Toronto clinics. For anything other than a one-off prescription, pay the $20 prescription fee and go to a pharmacy. And be prepared to sign a waiver for just about everything if you don't want an optional vaccine, extra test, or ask for a written prescription.

I have been a client of Peterborough West Animal Hospital since it first opened. I always look forward to my visits there as you are treated well by the staff who are friendly and always pleasant to deal with. I have had every confidence in the treatment that my pets are given. Your visit is never rushed and all questions are answered so you can understand the answers. Over the years I have had to have pets put to sleep and although it is a devastating experience the staff care and have so much compassion. I cannot speak more highly of the care given and I highly reccommend it as an A one veterinary clinic. Dr Sargent is wonderful as are any associates he works with. I used to live quite close to the clinic and although I have moved a farther distance I still makethe trip as I wouldn't go anywhere else. Sandy O'Leary

Dr. Scott Sargent is great and so is Dr. Susan Gambling. If you are looking for a holistic vet, want homeopathic remedies used when possible and feed raw, try Dr. Gambling. She's been our vet for years now and not only do we love her but our dogs do, too. She has a lovely way with animals and is great for fearful dogs -- taking her time and helping them feel comfortable. Dr. Gambling never makes you feel rushed and will take the time to explain things in terms that are easy to understand.

If you go here, make sure you see Dr. Sargent. He is amazing and really cares about your pet. He keeps your pet overnight after surgery just to make sure they are okay. His prices are extremely reasonable. In fact, his prices are by far the best I have seen at any veterinarian. He doesn't try to sell you additional supplies or services and is extremely caring. He is obviously in this business for the love of animals. His examinations are very thorough. He noticed that my dog had a heart murmur that had never been noticed by anyone before and didn't recommend that anything be done about it because it was very faint/slight. He just said he would keep an eye on it and see how it goes. I recommend Dr. Sargent 100%. My whole family takes their pets there and they all feel the same way I do about him. They also don't overbook so the appointments are always on time, give or take 5 minutes.
