The KVC told us that Bella's white blood cell count was high and her spleen enlarged because she was an old dog. 2. Bella had harsh, labored breathing (May 2023). The KVC also told us that Bella's breathing was normal (May 2023). 3. The KVC failed to tell us that on Bella's medical record it says: "VD/Right lateral: lytic bone on the right stifle" (August 2022): possible bone cancer. The KVC should have referred Bella to a cancer specialist a.s.a.p. Instead I was strung along into paying money for more and more x-rays because I believed that Bella had cancer, I was right, and the Kingston Veterinary Clinic kept telling us that there was no cancer. 4. About 2 weeks after the KVC diagnosis of no cancer and heathy breathing, we took Bella to the U.S.A. where Bella was diagnosed with a hepatocellular carcinoma (cancer) and Laryngeal Paralysis (unhealthy breathin RID: 71090
Click to report rating    3/16/21   5     5     4     4   I started to go to KVC years ago when I adopted my first cat (and got a second cat two years later). Most of the reviews for KVC were poor compared to other vets but I had no car and it was the closest to cab so felt I had to go here. However, every single experience has been a positive one. All front staff and the vets are professional, kind and courteous. They were supportive when it was time to euthanized each of my cats and I will continue to take future cats here. I usually preferred to go to my favourite vet but I like that there are other vets on duty to help when my cats were unexpectedly sick. Prices are comparable to others in the area. RID: 69871
Click to report rating    10/27/16   3     4     5     1   There are so many tragic stories in these pages. Ours is almost as awful. We've had bad experiences with Dr Ross himself, so we've always tried for other vets in the clinic. This time we were unlucky and got another heartless individual. He charged us $80 for attempting to upsell us on testing that would have made no difference to our obviously fatally ill pet. Then they took him away and jabbed him with catheters, without success, when a single needle would have sufficed (we've been through this before.) We walked out, in the hopes they would stop torturing our poor, sweet little cat. We'll never know. I have nightmares about this. It has affected our marriage too. RID: 61897

6/28/16   1     1     1     1   I've never had a good experience with this vet clinic in the many years I've been a pet owner. The staff is uncaring and judgmental. They are here for the cash that they try to squeeze out of their customers who only want to do right by their fur-family. It makes me sick to read the posts about a family cat that was taken from a loving home and murdered by these people. Just disgusting. I'd NEVER take my animals there to be subjected to the hate the staff gives off every time you walk through the doors. Please reconsider using this vet clinic. They are monsters. RID: 60965

6/27/16   1     1     1     1   My father brought in our beloved Jack June 23. He has a bad feeling right away with Dr Ross but allowed our cat to be there over night because of his concern and he is a responsible pet owner. He went back the next day to get Jack and Dr Ross charged him almost 600.00. My father is on a pension and said he couldn't afford another night but also Jack appeared no better for the night. He paid his bill. He arrived home and Jack was playful, energetic and within an hour an SPCA officer came because Dr Ross called them. They to,d my father that he had no choice but to give them Jack but they promised he would not be put down. Jack was taken and coldly euthanized by Dr Ross hours later. Jacks family was not there, we would have looked into long term care, Jack was our family. Shame on you. Shame on your clinic. You have devastated our family. Jack was our family. We still don't know why he was killed so fast. He had no chance. You should not be taking care of the vunerable. Shame on you. RID: 60962

6/27/16   1     1     1     1   How can you justify not allowing a pet owner to get a second opinion, charging $500 for 4 enemas, then after the owner takes his cat home Dr. Ross calls the OSPCA to go the pet owner's home with a police officer and have the cat removed. Dr. Ross then had the cat returned to his vet office to be euthanized without permission!!! Ontario was not a police state when I lived there and this takes unprofessional behavior to an all new low. How can Dr. Ross even sleep at night??? How can this be legal? This beloved cat was euthanized without his family around him....unbelievably crass, heartless, and callous behavior on the part of the veterinarian!! RID: 60959
Click to report rating    6/16/15   1     1     1     1   We took our cat in on June 14 2015, she was very sick, instead of treating our cat Dr Christin Brandon was only interested in seeing how much money she could get out of us. Instead of just telling us our cat was dying she tried sucking $1600.00 out of us first. When we first took our cat in, I thought the doctor was getting a needle to get blood work from my cat. Over 20 minutes later she returns with a clip board and a paper that showed how much the service could run us that night, she still was not interested in my cat, she just wanted to see how much she could get out of greiving people RID: 57427
Click to report rating    5/1/15   1     2     1     1   Front desk staff is almost always rude or condescending. They are very pushy about unnecessary treatments such as the Lyme vaccine, nexguard, advantix/advantage, and their prescription food. My dog is epileptic, and has adverse reactions to almost everything. The Lyme shot swelled at the injection site for three days and my dog couldn't move without crying. They gave him the bordatella vaccine intranasally and he ended up so sick with bordatella he almost died. Luckily Dr. Ross treated my dog free of charge for their mistake, but they will try to convince you to pay ridiculous amounts of money for extra blood work you don't need and prescription food you didn't ask for. Rude. Overpriced. Never on time. Uncaring. Don't take your pets here. RID: 56869
Click to report rating    12/17/14   1     1     1     1   The staff was rude and i does not provide correct information. I will never take my cat there again. RID: 55071
Click to report rating    9/4/14   4     4     4     1   I took my dog here, she stayed over night. If you want to be robbed blind take your dog here, hidden costs and they tried charge my credit card twice. never ever ever will I bring an animal here RID: 53390
3/17/14   2     3     3     1   Dr.Cady was our dogs doctor, but unfortunately she left the clinic.Few months ago we took our dog back for an eye exam,we had a concern that he might have a cataract.Instead of approaching our dog in a nice doctor's manner, some new doctor was very cautious of our doggy who is only a medium size cute little guy,a bit shaky and scared though, but not aggressive at all.First the doctor asked me(a small lady) to pick the dog up on the table and then to put him down on the floor because he could not even touch him- like our little dog was some kind of big scary monster. It was so strange to just look at that and how he treated the dog.In my opinion Vets are doctors for the animals and thus should have a right approach to them, animal doctor should not be afraid of the animals!!Never the less, the exam was only for the eye, which was extremely short and ended with a referral to the specialist. For only a short visit and a doctor who did not basically do anything I paid around $140.00. RID: 50552
Click to report rating    2/24/14   1     2     1     2   ITS THE STAFF. They are uncaring, rude, unapproachable. I was charged the wrong price for my cats med's the first time I got them- So the next time I went to pick up his med's and they told me this new price (went from 18.00 to 60.00!), naturally, I was a little upset and asked for an explanation. They basically told me too bad, and deal with it. I only had a $20 on me, and had left work early to come here. I asked to buy 1 tube (as my cat was out and I only had the $20) and they declined and sent me away. So when I got the rest of the money together, I sent my mom to the office as I could not get out of work. She went to pick up the full $60 amount... and came home with one tube. THE ONE TUBE I HAD ASKED FOR IN THE FIRST PLACE!! Oh, and they charged her $20 for one tube (but 6 tubes cost $60?)So I called and they were VERY rude to me and claimed they called to let me know I could pick up the meds (lies.)I went back for full 6 tubes.. and have paid $70 now. STAY AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE! RID: 50063
Click to report rating    10/17/13   3     2     5     1   You get charged ~ $130 just for your pet to be examined. Ridiculous. RID: 47679
Click to report rating    8/1/13   1     2     1     1   I had an appt there for flea medication and a check up when I called they the front girl told me they do not recommend to give a nursing mom flea medication I explained the ospca wanted me to do that and then after all is said and done the ospca called her and she said I had the appt for 2 of my dogs with them then after I refused to get the om hers the ospca took my animals then the front girl wrote a letter against me stating I cancelled the appts which was not true I did not show up b/c the ospca took the dogs 2 hours before the appt. They are horrible there & they lie. I had another girl message me stating now they could not even find the appts in the computer but she remembers that we did have them! I have my animals back. DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE THEY ARE HORRIBLE! RID: 46008
8/7/12   2     3     1     1   My family has been using Kingston Vetranary Clinic for nigh on 50 years now. Yes they are never on time for an appt but Dr. Ross is one of the most caring Vets I have ever had the good fortune to meet. Only this weekend i had to take my loving Lab who was limping so bad she could hardly move to this clinic and was turned away. I explained how we had been coming there for the last 50 years and still the front end staff did not care . She sat in front of the 2 woman working on the counter holding her paw up and showing her pain when she would move on it to them and still they could have cared less.. They said she had no appt so go to the after hours clinic.. Which charges 200.00 to walk through the door.. I would have preferred to use that money to get an exray. The front end girls never even cared enough to come around and look at her. When i entered they made me wait while they had a provate conversation and then told me how busy they were. There was one person in there with me RID: 36314
Click to report rating    7/23/12   2     2     2     3   I have always found Dr. Ross to be very caring and informed but my last incident changed all that. My dog had fainted a few times and I suspected heart disease - at an advanced stage as I did some research on this. Dr. Ross took blood and was 100% sure she had a heart problem. Said he would call me later than night with the results of the blood test. Called me later and said we needed to do an ECG and an x-ray to check for fluid on the lungs. We already knew she had fluid because of her coughing. I asked if the outcome after doing these tests would be any different and he said he needed to do them so he would know what medication to put her on as we had caught it in an "early stage". (?) Well $450 later I was told there was no medication he could give her and she would die of heart failure. I would go and see Dr. Buchanan but not Dr. Ross. RID: 36006
Click to report rating    5/4/12   4     4     1     4   My cats are generally well treated there. The service and facilities are good. Dr. Ross is superb. My only complaints: punctuality is near nil, the vet tech trainees are vapid, rude, and do a very poor job of manning the desk, and there is some pushiness to buy pet food (Hill's)from them. RID: 34002
Click to report rating    1/9/12   3     3     3     5   I have had my dogs groomed at Pet Grooming by Carole since she started there 19 years ago. Pets and show dogs and I rate her services 100%.She is the best at what she does and highly trained. It is dificult to use this rating system since, her salon is not owned by the vet clinic. She just rents space there and the staff are clinic staff.(except for Deanna)carole is a dog trainer, Behaviour consultant,is a member of many associations and attends many symposiums and conferences every year for cont. education. The facilities are old but CLEAN.(upgrading would be good) The staff could use some good training but for the most part, are good. Puntuality does need some work. (hope they are working on that) All in all a good place RID: 30390
Click to report rating    10/19/11   1     1     1     1   What the client sees in the waiting area is different than what the animals see when the leash is handed over. I would never, ever recommend this clinic to anyone. The grooming area is appalling as the animals are placed in tiny dirty cages and often the dogs are left unattended on the tables where they could fall. The animals are roughed up when in that area and there is a reason why they are happy to be returned to the owners. When the animals are there for boarding they are given very minimal interaction. The staff talk about the clients like they are dirt and taken advantage of. Staff are given tasks that they are not always trained to do. There is a reason why the clients are not brought into the areas where the animals are treated and I encourage to have the parents ask to see where the pets are taken. People treat pets like they are part of the family, and unless you really do not like your family, never step foot in the door. RID: 28434
Click to report rating    9/23/11   4     4     5     5   My dog (who is now 5) has been with KVC since I got her at 9 weeks old. I've only had positive experiences with Dr. Ross, Buchanan, and Laidlaw. They are competent and caring and never try to push you toward unnecessary tests or products. Now that I live in Toronto I'm appalled at how much it costs to get equivalent care! I think it might be worth it to drive to Kingston for vet appointments! A couple years back my dog started limping during a romp in the park on a Saturday night when the clinic was closed. I called the clinic and got through to Dr. Ross who came in to the clinic the next day (when it is closed) just to see her. It turned out she just twisted something and was fine by the time we saw him but he checked her out just in case - and he didn't charge me for the visit at all. A few of my friends take their pets to Beardall but it's way more expensive than Kingston Vet Clinic. Doesn't seem worth it. RID: 27840
Click to report rating    8/26/11   5     4     5     5   ive had dogs for over twenty years and by far dr. buchanan is the best i have ever had, she even came in on her day off to help me with the passing of one of my dogs. RID: 27188
Click to report rating    8/16/11   5     5     5     5   I bring my dog and three cats regularly to the clinic. I've been to many others but the staff here are wonderful, knowledgeable, and the price is always right. My dog just recently had stomach issues so I brought him in...the poor guy just wasn't eating. He was given a full exam...you could tell that the staff really cared (even over a little tummy ache). They figured out his problem and gave him some medication to make his tummy feel better. After all that, I couldn't believe how inexpensive it was for a full exam, fecal, etc. Thank-you Dr. Ross and staff! RID: 26955
Click to report rating    5/10/11   1     2     2     1   I am extremely unhappy with the service and prices at the Kingston Vet Clinic. My dog had porcupine quills removed (a fair amount from a baby porcupine, all on his muzzle) and the bill is over $500. My friend's dog just had quills removed/pain killer/anesthesia/heartworm test and vaccination for $230 at the Collins Bay Vet. I went in to talk about why the price would be double and was treated EXTREMELY rudely by a woman at the desk. She looked at me like I was dirt on her shoe and just shrugged her shoulders when I asked about the price difference. Paying $500 and having 2 dogs I have been bringing to the clinic I would expect to be treated with more decency than this. Horrible customer service from this woman and unreasonable prices. RID: 24913
Click to report rating    9/13/10   1     2     4     1   I have mixed feelings. their groomers did a horrible job on my dog when I had him groomed I asked for all his undercoat to be brushed out. it was still all there when I picked him up. I could and have done a better job and saved $40. Also, for the 3-5 years I used their services, EVERYONE in the office said that my dog just had bad breath, you could smell it from across the room(old dogs apparently get Bad breath)I always questioned this decision but accepted their explanation(their proffesionals).they also prescribed it's NOT normal, he had an infection in his mouth and his teeth were literally falling out of his mouth. He got his teeth cleaned and had 9, yes 9 teeth pulled. They also prescribed 2 medicines for a friends dog, even though it said right on the pill bottles that these specific meds should NOT be mixed. His dog almost died as a result. moral of this story, just because they're pro's dosen't mean they're always right. if you don't like their anser, check with someone els RID: 19717

Click to report rating    3/22/09   4     4     4     4   I've had experiences dealing with both Dr. Jaime Buchanan & Dr. Ken Ross. Both are extremely knowledgeable and caring people. Dr. Buchanan is my regular vet for my dogs and I feel very confident putting my dogs health in her hands. RID: 12220
