Click to report rating    2/1/22   3     3     2     2   I have had a similar experience as another rating. My cat was given Revolution and de-worm in the same spot causing a large 3rd degree Burn. When I told staff they said if I came in I would probably be charged again for a visit and it was better than having fleas! My dog recently got an injury that required stitching after a night of home vet I had no money for 3 days until my pay. They refused the dog unless pay cash. I understand the policy But manage a Rescue farm with 8 animals I spend thousands per year after year and their care is all that matters not money. I live on a small budget so they get the best care possible. My cats and Dogs are always 1st in my life and I work long hours to support them. I need someone who cares about them like I do RID: 70230
Click to report rating    1/21/20   3     3     5     3   Unfortunately, I will not be returning here again after taking my cat to this vet for the past six years. I now realize Dr. Damant isn’t a good fit for us at all. I put revolution on my cats neck as per usual and the next day all his hair in that area was completely gone and he had an open, perfectly round wound. Took him in and long story short she said that it was a wound from a cat fight, although he did not go outside at all and is the only cat in our house. Revolution paid for the services (as they should) although the vet was short, rude, and barely looked me in the eyes to have a conversation. She tried to say it was caused by anything but the revolution without having facts or evidence or even the slightest clue for that matter. I’m super disappointed in the minimal level of care she provided and her hostility towards me. Her assistants are great and careful, And I Hate to write a bad review, but geez. RID: 68992
Click to report rating    11/17/19   1     1     1     1   A terrible, awful clinic where the Vet and owner, Dr.Damant, showed no care for my dogs life and performed a horrible job on my dogs last surgery. She is so rude and arrogant, she wouldn't even come consult with me after my dog was released from a veryajor surgery. I would steer very far and clear away from this place!! You will be sorry. Click to report rating    11/13/19   1     1     1     1   DO NOT BRING WILDLIFE HERE. Called all vets in town, this is only vet that said they could "treat" wildlife. THEY CANT. They "assess" and "bring to NIRWA if "VIABLE"". Brought a pigeon with a broken leg. it was absolutely treatable. They took it to back and told me they'd call. I expressly explained that I wanted to ensure he got care, would pay for treatment if needed, or seek another opinion. They euthanized without notifying me. This was a fledgling, and could have been helped.I've also taken small pets here before with similar, extremely bad results. Please, don't go here. These reviews are not fake. There is a reason their Facebook page doesn't allow reviews. RID: 68729

9/22/19   1     1     1     1   Dr. Angela Damant completely misdiagnosed my dog. My dog was having a hard time making a bowel movement. After a very vague examination (less than 30 seconds of externally examining my dog), Dr. Damant insisted that my dog had an enlarged prostate and that putting him under to castrate him was the only solution. Luckily, I got a second opinion and found out that she was wrong. He ended up having a hernia, and it was confirmed that he did not have an enlarged prostate. He his now doing much better with his new diet and meds. After reading many other reviews, it seems as if this isn't the first time she has done something like this. I implore you, do NOT use her services. Dr. Damant was impatient, rude, misinformative, and doesn't seem to have a true heart for caring for animals. It seems as though it's all about the money for her, and not about taking the time to thoroughly examine the animals. RID: 68576
Click to report rating    12/3/18   5     4     5     5   Went for a second opinion they went over everything in detail and explained much more to use than anywhere else. They also did not tell use to re run a bunch of tests that others told us should be re run. Very happy with the service. RID: 67075
Click to report rating    10/20/18   1     1     1     1   Little vet shop of horrors. From the condescending and dishonest staff to a vet with incredible bad bedside manners and a bully of a general manager. Do not recommend!!! RID: 66933

Click to report rating    9/24/17   1     1     1     1   This clinic was our horror story..we took our dog just to get her nails clipped..woman came from the back, took her behind a closed door and my pup, for the first time ever, I heard her screeches in pain..I wanted to go in the room but was told no, "they don't like getting nails cut..." When she came out, she was shivering, and I was so incensed at the lack of compassion and care.Would NEVER return..that was a few years ago...Thankfully we found alternate superb care for her ..but this experience left us very cautious..I still get angry driving past this building.. Click to report rating    9/21/17   1     1     1     1   Took my rat for a checkup, vet and assistant handled her so roughly she was SCREAMING. My rat is well-behaved, and has NEVER bitten or shown any aggression, this was completely unnecessary. I've never heard such a heartbreaking sound. Didn't let me hold my pet after or put her back in her carrier after exam was done. Was very unhelpful in diagnosing problem, yet pretended to know about rats. Did not explain anything at all. I will not put my pet through that again, and will definitely see a different vet if we have any health issues come up. Go somewhere, ANYWHERE else for small pets. RID: 64691

Click to report rating    1/28/16   1     2     1     1   My dog had a growth surgically removed at this clinic. Four months later I telephoned because I was concerned about the suchers still in my dogs chest. I spoke with two staff members who both argued that disolving suchers could take up six months or longer to disolve.I informed them I did my research about disolving suchers and 5 month is to long. Both argued that I was wrong and if I was concerned I should bring my dog into the clinic. After several minutes staff located paper file that confirmed sucher removal was not required.Staff accused me of being confused and they questioned why I did not call sooner. The two staff members were argumentive and they claimed disolving suchers can take six months or longer to disolve. The staff are not sensitve to pet owners. Post surgery care is poor at this clinic.I think procedures lack professional practice (knowing what kind of sucher is used is a given with most Dr.) I did not get quality care for my pet. RID: 59613
Click to report rating    11/12/13   2     3     3     1   Was informed my cat needed a full tooth extraction, at an appx $500 cost. I was categorically informed there was no other option. Got a second opinion, turns out there was a minor infection in the gums, but an extraction was not recommended. The infection cleared up within days. This is a shady practice. RID: 48212
Click to report rating    10/2/13   5     4     5     5   my experience with this vet is that they are honest and affordable. Unlike some other local vet's they understand that not everyone is rich. My children don't eat steak everyday and neither do our pets. Where other local vets make you feel guilty if you can't afford to buy the best of the best, this vet consider's your budget and doesn't try to force the sale of flea treatments and other things that are not essential. (we use a holistic flea treatment that works wonders - I don't need revolution at $15 a pop for our three pets.) They were very compassionate when we had to put down a pet, and took the time to answer all of my sons questions when he saved a cat through the SPCA. RID: 47343
Click to report rating    8/28/13   1     2     3     1   I took my dog to see this vet after he developed a left sided facial paralysis . I even specifically asked if it was because of a middle ear infection . She said absolutely not and didn`t even look in his ears or take his temp , instead ordered an expensive blood test . 4 weeks later the paralysis continued and we were in Vancouver when something just burst in my dog`s ear ( yep the facial paralysis side) and it was leaking the most foul smelling pus you could imagine . Luckily i took my dog to a vet in vancouver and $700 and a surgical intervention under anaesthetic later he is diagnosed with a rip roaring ear infection which could now be in the cartilidge of the middle ear because it festered for 4 weeks . Maybe if she`d listened to me and looked in the ear we would not be in this position now . Maybe the facial nerve may have been saved with prompt treatment . Can`t imagine the pain my dog suffered because of her sloppy exam . I shall NEVER darken this vet`s door again !!! RID: 46574
Click to report rating    4/27/13   3     3     3     3   Once they decided not to offer after hours emergency service, they lost my office hours business. RID: 42114
12/20/12   1     1     1     1   BAD doesn't cover it. Vet has no 'bedside manner'. Rude, uncaring, and can't believe she is a vet. Dr. Aylard (the previous owner who retired) was wonderful and she is a complete opposite. My dog had something in his throat, was struggling to breathe all night, went there and she did not even talk to me but whispered "tell her she's going to have to wait". A back up of patients, running late, puts muzzles on my dogs to give shots, but nothing occurred where she would have to muzzle them. Didn't want to take the time to treat them with a calm and caring approach. Just pushing the patients through. Walked into a exam room without even approaching my dog and stuck a thermometer up his anus without him seeing her. Had to put my old dog down and she couldn't find a vein had to get an assistant to do it. LEFT AND NEVER WENT BACK. HORRIBLE, UNCARING, RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL. SHOULD WORK IN A MEAT PROCESSING FACILITY IF SHE SHOULD BE WORKING AT ALL. RID: 39170
Click to report rating    12/10/12   1     1     3     1   I went to see this vet while on holiday. My dog was in pain from pulled muscles I believe, and could not lie down. She is elderly and has kidney disease. I didn't need them to try to solve all her problems just provide some pain meds. They dispensed some meds but so little of it that it was ineffectual. I checked with another vet to find out that the dosage was WAY too little to help her. I upped the dosage and her pain seemed lessened..however, at this new higher dosage I had only 2 or 3 doses! I went back to try to talk to them and I got my "records" which was notes taken during the office visit -- oh my, it looked like it was written by an idiot child...and worst of all, was completely inaccurate, didn't reflect anything about her kidney disease. They started pushing tests for Cushings - which is about the most complicated expensive disease you can test for. What a bunch of idiot crooks! (I have little complaint about their punctuality -- there is no one waiting in line here!) RID: 38970

AFFORDABLE AND CARING,EQUIPMENT NOT SO MODERN BUT IS SUFFICIENT TO SAVE MY DYING DOG. RID: 23076
Click to report rating    12/15/10   1     2     2     2   When my cat suddenly started to go blind I called Alberni Vet clinic. They said they couldn't get him in for another 4 days. At the appointment the vet told me that my cat was completely blind probably from high blood pressure; a result of his early stage kidney failure. I asked if there was anything we could do, she said no because the medicine she had him on for kidney failure also acted to lower blood pressure. She didn't check his eyes and said they had no way to test blood pressure. It was 4:30pm and I immediately called Bellevue Clinic in Parksville. They got us in first thing in the morning. They did blood pressure tests, checked the pressure in his eyes, did tests to determine how much vision remained and put him on medication to get his blood pressure down. She said that if we had got him in sooner we probably could have saved some of his vision. That was 4 years ago and he died 10 months ago. Its sad he had to spend his final years blind when maybe it was preventable. RID: 21434
