Dr. Abernathy killed my emotional support dog, best friend and companion. He fell asleep on me, lost a test, switched x-rays, prescribed medications that were deadly for my dog's condition, and when I needed him the most, he blatantly ignored the severity of my dog's condition. All he cared about was rushing through and neutering my dog and completely screwed up. Now he's covering up his mistakes and lying about it and refuses to speak with me. He is forgetting things, mixing things up, and being careless with our beloved pets. He's in over his head and needs to retire. He has a very hot temper and yells at you if you question him. He's unfit to continue being a trusted veterinarian and care for animals. He needs to be stopped before more beloved pets die.

Front office staff are slow, unorganized, and unfriendly. Abernathy appears "Burnt out" after all of these years. No longer a good place to take your animals. Uncaring and unprofessional! There are other good vets in Rio Rancho...Go elsewhere!

"Dr." Abernathy had me fired for refusing his sexual advances years ago. It was devastating. I loved my job. He was new, I had been an excellent employee for 2 years. No write up, no counseling. No prior priblems, and nothing to substantiate his claims that I wasn't doing my job. Summarily fired. For telling him to keep his hands off me. For the third time. Got a call 6 months later as there were a handful of other complaints. I should have pursued a lawsuit but never did. Thank you Harvey Weinstein, for the excellent reminder.

We have been taking our pets to Dr. Abernathy for about 19 years now and I wouldn't trust anyone else with their health. He is compassionate and gives you as much of his time as you need. You will usually wait a while for your appointment but the quality of care is more than worth the wait. This man is on call 24/7 and has always been available if we ever needed him after hours. He really cares about his clients.

I have gone to Dr. Abernanthy for 20 years now The best vet in nm. He never overcharges and gives your pet the best care possible. He is caring and treats every animal with respect. He is always working overtime and is on call every night. He never turns a patient away. You do have to wait awhile sometimes to see him. But thats because everyone is their to see him. People drive from Santa few to see him. He is worth the wait. As far as him falling asleep while speaking to a client reviewer stated above in a review. Its because he is always their from morning till late night caring for the animals making sure everyone gets the best care. He is always on call every night. Every night! Doctors at hospitals are always sleep deprived but your still OK with them caring for you and your family members. Just saying. Never had a bad experience at his vet or with Abernathy. But I only see him not the other vets at his business.

I am heart sick I took my healthy, happy active puppy into the clinic. They did not even get a correct weight on him and most likely may have overdosed him during a simple neutering procedure. I have called them two days ago, was told they would call me back that evening and I am still waiting. The staff is rude and lacks attention to detail. I asked for a copy of the records and asked the vet about some of the information in the record and he replied that is not my writing, you have to listen to what I am saying. Apparently, he is okay with releasing records that do not represent his professional opinion. When I asked him if we should have a cardiac work up on the puppy, he replied "it depends on how much of a worrier you are." The whole experience has just been unreal. My experience with the Dr. Abernathy and his staff is they are uncaring, too busy chasing the dollar and grossly incompetent. I now will be taking my puppy to another vet's office to have him checked over. Beware!

I would never take any of my animals to Abernathy again. He is the worse Vet I have ever been to. He overbooks and falls asleep while talking to you. When he doesn't have the solution to the problem, he decides to put animals to sleep. I would rather pay more for a vet who takes the time to find the problem than to a vet who is less expensive and just guesses. Since when do you go into a surgery room while other animals are being operated on. That is so unclean and unprofessional. Since when should a vet make the pet owner feel guilty about not putting an animal to sleep when he has done any testing or any other mechinisms of diagnosis. He hires incompetent staff (the Vets. I really hate him for putting my girl to sleep without doing any final testing to see if she could make it through the night. If you love your animal, don't take him/her to him. Most of the negative comments are true that are written about him.

I live in Tijeras and take my dogs to dr Abernathy in rio rancho. I would travel any distance to have him take care of my dogs. Excellent vet. Have take my dogs to him for many many years. Highly recommend him. Even though the wait us sometime very long it is worth the wait

Dr. Abernathy cost me my job years ago when I reprimanded him for his advances toward me as a female subordinate. I was promptly fired, and too naive to file a law suit. Found out years later that others had the same complaint. He also thought it was funny to breed two six toed cats together to see what would happen. He ended up with a cat with two tiny front legs who could barely walk. Real funny.

We got a kitten at the pound and this vet was on the list to use for the kittens mandatory 1st vet visit. My husband took the kitten in and was told to wait in the car because they didn't want an animal that had come from the pound in the waiting room. He waited an hour and went back in to find that they had forgotten him. They told him to wait in the car again. He waited another hour and found that they forgot about him again. The clinic was on my way home from work so I stopped to relieve my husband from waiting. I went in and told the staff I wanted to talk to the vet about the long wait and the fact that they were forgetting about the patient waiting outside. Abernathy came out and started screaming at me and was very abusive. NEVER GO TO THIS VET!!!!

Horrible vet you are taking your chances by taking your pet there. He wanted to put my dog to sleep as a solution to his illness found another vet he lived five more happy years. Whether Dr. Abernathy was to incompenent to know how to treat the disease or to impatient either option is horiffic. For more reviews I suggest you take a look at google reviews most are terrible.

Dr Abernathy is great. My family has been going to him for years and he has always taken excellent care of our pets. It does take awhile to get an appointment but its worth the wait for non-ER issues. Appointments are sometimes behind but its only because he spends so much time with you and your pet to give you a comprehensive exam. He has worked out payment plans for my family many times. He really is a blessing in our lives and I am so happy that we found him. I no longer live in Rio Rancho but I still take my two dogs there. It's worth the drive to have such a talented and compassionate Dr take care of my babies.

Dr. Abernathy is the best veterinarian in the area. His dedication to his practice and knowledge in treating each and every animal he sees is outstanding. Problem is that he is hard to see because of the high demand. If my pet is ill, generally I need to see one of his associates who are also good, but Abernathy rates 100\% and I always prefer to see him. He is well known in the area and often consulted when an area animal has been severely injured or abused. Other professions consult with him first. He has a large staff which is costly, and there is always one in training as in most businesses these days. Even the new staff are very sensitive to the animals and do all they can to help. He is a five star veterinarian and so is his practice. Wish we could clone him.

Excellent Dr., very compassionate. One of the best VETS in NM. He carefully explains all procedures. He loves his work as do all of the other Dr.s who practice with him.

This vet schedules too many appointments for the day & is unable to provide good care and prompt service. I visited this clinic on 3+ occasions and EVERY time had to wait 2+ hours. To me that is not acceptable. I was also told in an emergancy situation that they would be able to "fit in" my dog many hours later. Even though recommended by others, this was not the type of vet I was looking for. I iwill not being visiting this vet again.

I have used Dr Abernathy for over 1o years and he was always a caring erpson with our four legged family memebers. Over the years his practice has grown tremendously, adding other vets. Now his practice is so big they can not give the same care. When my cat was malled by a dog and suffering, I was told there were no appointments and to go to another vet.
